All Things 2022 Minnesota Twins In-Season Thread

Is Chris Archer done and you see what Josh Winder can provide as a starter? There is no reason to keep going back to archer when he also is not in your 2023 plan. Also we need to play the Tigers more.

Just happy Rocco let him walk the bases loaded with no out before finally pulling him so that ERA could increase even more.
Winder is hurt unfortunately.

Was really close to skipping work and bringing my 7 year old to both games. My in-laws are in Milwaukee, so we have a place to stay. But was too busy at work to justify it, so I skipped it. Looking like a good choice now.
Last night would have been fun except for the very end. Today was one of the worst games I’ve ever seen in person. Archer and Cotton combined to throw more balls than strikes. Brought my 5 year old to her first game. Not a memorable one.

BTW, the roof was closed for the first 3-4 innings because earlier there had been showers in the area. We were up in the cheap seats and it was miserable. They had the big windows open in the outfield and the air conditioning wasn’t on. There was no moving air at all. Even after they opened the roof you couldn’t feel much. There was a nice breeze outside but that place is so boxed in hardly anything gets into the stadium. I’ll take the open air experience almost every time.

Not putting a roof on Target Field was the smartest thing the Twins did. MLB just shouldn't start until May 1st.

Archer gives up a 3-run HR in the bottom of the 1st.

Twins come back with 3 in the top of the 2nd, including a HR by Miranda.

Don't want to see the Twins trade Miranda, but his stock keeps getting higher the way he's hitting. He could potentially go from a throw-in to the centerpiece of a trade.

The Twins are not going to trade Miranda.

At least today's game was on YouTube, which has the brilliance to break down the game into "chapters" on the App. The Pre-game, the game and the post-game, which features a picture the Brewers celebrating. Doesn't leave much mystery as to what happened, so no reason to watch. Brilliant, YouTube and MLB. Really well thought out.

They must really not like that Hamilton kid they called up when Jeffers went down. Rocco hates playing catchers in back to back days and Sanchez has been behind the plate every game so far. Hamilton has one at bat when they were getting pummeled by the Sox on the last day before the break.

And Sanchez is catching again today. Behind the plate a day game after a night game? Joe Mauer is rolling over in his grave.
They have an off day tomorrow and have played a total of 4 games in the past 10. If they were in the middle of 10 in a row, Rocco would never do that.

Winder is hurt unfortunately.

I was on board with adding 2 relievers and letting it ride with the starters, but Archer and Bundy are both coming unglued, Winder is hurt and Ober was apparently kidnapped by aliens. They need at least one starter and 2 relievers. Give me Syndergaard and two decent arms. Montas/Castillo aren't worth the cost. I just want one play-off win.

At this point they may need two starters.

So the mass option appears to be the twins need the following:

2 starters
2 relievers
1 catcher

My question is how many of the 10-30th ranked prospects do you want to give away for a team that is just tying to win the central and is not a real World Series contender.

My personal opinion don’t give up prospects this year but make a “real” run in 2023 when you can just sign a pitcher and relief pitchers then use prospects next year to bolster the line-up.

As long as at least one starter and one reliever has team control for 2023, I'm good with 2 in the top 10 and another 2-3 from 10-20. The catcher we're likely to get won't cost much. The un-tradeable younger players for me are Lewis, Ryan, Kiriloff and Miranda. Anyone else (Larnach, Ober, Winder etc.) can be had.

There are a lot of guys that appear to be available that are under team control for at least one more year. So for a guy like Lopez or Mahle, they can help this year and in the future. I don't think they're going to give up a lot for any 1/2 year rentals. If they go get a catcher, my guess is it'll be someone like Yan Gomes who also wouldn't cost much.

I don't know what the bleep this organization is doing with its pitching development, but it seems as if every damn pitcher in the organization is either having elbow or shoulder problems.

a short list of prospects who are hurt or have been ineffective:
Winder
Canterino
Alcala
Balazovic
Ober (world's longest groin injury)

not to mention -
Maeda
Stashak
Dobnak

either they are doing something weird with their pitching development, or they are unable to diagnose and treat injuries.

Somewhat of an update on Ober. Seems really weird it has taken this long.

It is bizarre how often pitchers have been hurt in this organization. I know it's happening somewhere everywhere but seems to happen more for the Twins.

If the Twins were offered the ability to start the year on a long road trip in the south, would they take it? Even though I think it would be advantageous (play in warm weather and get some of your road games out of the way), I’m guessing they would refuse thinking they could get behind the eight ball to start the season. And on the flip side allow teams like Texas Rangers to over schedule road games in July or August.

I spent the evening on top of the Green Monster watching the Red Sox help push the Twins lead up to 2 Games. They beat the Guards 4-2 thanks to a Boegaerts missile near where I was situated.

Cool view up there. Reminded me of sitting above the Blue Hefty Bag at the HHH Dome. Big difference though having sky and clouds overhead instead of a Teflon roof. Oh course at the Dome I recall paying $4, instead of $92 (SRO) to be perched above Landsdowne St.

It's the Williams Arena of Major League Baseball.

Celestino is back with the Twins, Urshela is on the paternity list. Kepler not in the lineup tonight.

I don't get why they just didn't put Kepler on the IL. It's now day 5 and he still isn't playing. Could have had Celestino up for the Brewers series.

Waiting a few days is fine, especially if it's a very important player like Buxton or Correa but Kepler has been bad the past two months. Give him some time off. Get healed, get refreshed.

It’s the way it’s always done.

Sano down to .086. I'd take The Turtle over him at this point.
Swung at two balls in the dirt and then just blown away on a fastball. This with first and second with no outs.

It's just a giveaway out every single time.
