All Things 2022 Minnesota Twins In-Season Thread

Sano will be taking at bats from people he should not be. They owe him $14 million next year and there is no why it will be picked up, so he will be bought out. Instead of just cutting the cord with two months to go in 2022 they are going to potentially worsen the team at hurt development in 2022.

Of course this was always going to be the decision so no surprise here.

Good sweep of Detroit onto the brewers who can’t score but can pitch.
I don't think he will be given a very long leash if he struggles. In the short-term, there are ~18 games/week available between 1B, 3B and DH. Assuming Buxton gets two DH games, I'd divide the other 16 as 5 for Arreaz, 5 for Miranda and 3 each for Sano and Urshella. Kiriloff can stick in the OF for now. Arreaz can occasionally play 2B when Polanco or Correa is off.

Buxton is back so now the fans are mad that Sano is starting tonight and Arraez isn't. Even though it's against a lefty.

Kepler is not in the lineup, but I haven't seen any news on his foot. So I don't know if he's sitting out due to an injury or sitting out because the Brewers are throwing a Lefty.

Probably both. Garlick is a lock to start against a lefty and there's no sense starting Kepler over Kiriloff.

Kepler has a broken little toe but may try to play through it. I would IL him and seriously consider asking Arreaz to play some LF.

Theo Epstein was the 5 Good Minutes Guest on Pardon the Interruption today.

I highly recommend seeking it out. He's in the MLB Office working under Manfred charged with improving the game. He owns up to the fact that several of the things he championed in front offices are a big part of the problem as far as pace of play and lack of excitement. Epstein is now trying to undo those strategies through rule changes, just as the NBA implemented the 24 second shot clock and the NFL favoring passing.

3 things I found interesting:

- Overall MLB Batting Avg is at .242 which is a 50 year low. The goal is to get it back to .262 - .265.
- The average strikeout rate is nearly 25%, which is nearly double what it was in the 80s. The league "average" is higher than that of what both Bob Gibson and Dwight Gooden accomplished over the course of their careers. Wow.
- He sees himself having a 3rd act eventually in a front office.

He likes breaking futility streaks. We need to somehow get his attention to the Minnesota Championship Drought Thread on this here Forum.

Sanchez needs to go. He can’t hit and he can’t catch pitches. He’s like a boxer behind the plate just jabbing at the ball.

An
Really odd take. Seemed pretty logical to get others in there with the 7 run lead, everybody fresh and have Duffy be available Sunday with an off day Monday. If you can't trust the rest of the bullpen to get 6 outs in that situation then there's no use even pretending they're in a pennant race.
And there is the Duffey meltdown.

Duffey last 15 games 18 innings and 1 run with 6 walks. His reward pitching in the 9th inning of a tie game only to give up 1 hit, two walks, and picks up the loss.

Management has not put this team in a position to succeed based on how the bullpen was structured from day 1. Glad it only took 4 hours to play.

Sanchez is fine. He just shouldn’t be starting everyday which is why they may trade for another catcher too.

They must really not like that Hamilton kid they called up when Jeffers went down. Rocco hates playing catchers in back to back days and Sanchez has been behind the plate every game so far. Hamilton has one at bat when they were getting pummeled by the Sox on the last day before the break.

And Sanchez is catching again today. Behind the plate a day game after a night game? Joe Mauer is rolling over in his grave.

Over the last 30 he’s batting .196 with an OBP of .268 and slugging .343. He’s not fine he’s terrible and the Jeffers injury has made that more noticeable. For a team that preaches pitch framing he can’t even frame strikes with all his glove movement.

I guess my problem is why “manufacture” at bats for him. What you have been doing has been working for the most part with the offense. He’s not in your 2023 plans so why make him part of your 2022 plans. Just bite the bullet and be done with him. If he turns out to be good in another organization so it goes. Wont be the first and won’t be the last player they let go for free to be a good player somewhere else.

Twins will be fortunate if Archer makes it through 4 innings today. Laboring with 2 complete.

Archer gives up a 3-run HR in the bottom of the 1st.

Twins come back with 3 in the top of the 2nd, including a HR by Miranda.

Don't want to see the Twins trade Miranda, but his stock keeps getting higher the way he's hitting. He could potentially go from a throw-in to the centerpiece of a trade.

At the game today in Milwaukee. This is pathetic.
Was really close to skipping work and bringing my 7 year old to both games. My in-laws are in Milwaukee, so we have a place to stay. But was too busy at work to justify it, so I skipped it. Looking like a good choice now.

Is Chris Archer done and you see what Josh Winder can provide as a starter? There is no reason to keep going back to archer when he also is not in your 2023 plan. Also we need to play the Tigers more.

Just happy Rocco let him walk the bases loaded with no out before finally pulling him so that ERA could increase even more.

Not Winder, likely. He's was just put on the Injured List.
