Official 2023 Gophers Football Recruiting Thread: Links, Tweets, Videos, Rumors

They are still on Covid protocol.
Great answer! Fleck and crew, I'm sure have been extremely busy this weekend. I'll take the recruiting news and his time with the recruits at this point of the game.

There will be more good news to come. They are dotting the "I"s and crossing the "T"s.

I know we are all drooling over Moss’s four star rating, but I really think Zaquan Bryan could be just as good. Similar to Walley and Dickerson.

I'm always happy to see the new guys and have them come to the U. I don't know though, our recruiting just seems a little blah. I thought by year 6, Fleck would be bringing in some more big timers than we currently do.

Patience. The ones with options take multiple visits
If they get DE Howard and Williams,
DT Gadson or Davis
RB M. Williams
WR two of A. Brown, Manning and Cooley
TE Ortwerth
CB Moss or Fleming
S Brown
LB Newsome, Chambliss or McIntyre
OL Daniels
Which are all still possible, they will have a top 25 class and multiple 4 stars. Most top guys will wait until after the 6/24 visits.

I doubt that, but it’s becoming much less relevant with free transfers. I still like the class so far, I like the emphasis on local guys, I think they are less likely to transfer early.

The HS ratings are just that. The proof will come in practice and competition.

I am not worried about Gopher Recruiting under PJ Fleck. It was tough to recruit to MN. Patience is required.

Have to agree to disagree on this one. Not blah at all unless you know the results 5 years from now.

If you look at avg recruits star rating it's still bottom half of the B1G.....

247 has us ranked high because we have more commits than others...
The best Fleck has finished is 7th, been bottom half every other year.

I will start worrying about the AVG star ranking when someone can definitely prove that a class average of 88.xx is significantly better than a class average of 85.xx somewhere other than just on recruiting websites.

Are we bringing in players on par with the majority of the conference and are we bringing in guys that can play in the Big Ten? Those are the only things that matter

Wonder how much of this instate recruiting has to do with missing out on Trey Lance? Seems like we don't want to let any instate athletes get away this year.

Not arguing against that . However come Feb will it still look as good when we're sitting 45th in the nation vs the 12th as we currently are...

I have 0 qualms with this class... However I wouldn't mind seeing our lowest rated recruits in that .85 area... And not around .83...

That would really make you feel better? I think you’re giving the recruiting sites way too much credit with the accuracy of their evaluations.

PJ’s win average don’t reflect these poor 247 ratings. Either they are better than they are rated by these sites or he’s a better coach than given credit for.
There is also way more to acquiring talent than recruiting rankings. Things like attrition (for the people you want to keep), fit, and now the portal really matter.

If you like the recruits we are signing now, why would you like them any less if when it is all said and done our class is ranked in the 40's?

As to wanting to see guys ranked in the .85 as opposed to .83.....that is giving the sites way too much credit for accuracy. Unless there is anyone that truly believes the recruiting sites can accurately rank an OT from Gary Indiana, against one from Kasson MN, and another from Prior Lake MN and accurately assign number grades to those guys that will 100% reflect what kind of college player they will end up being. Keeping in mind that they have probably never met any of those players or seen them in person and are basing their whole evaluation on some game film.

There is no doubt there is a difference in the caliber of player we are bringing in when compared with a team like Ohio State. But once you get beyond the best of the best it really is just a crap shoot and will come down to which staff does a better job finding players that fit their system and will stick around throughout their career to become productive players at the college level.

The day they set foot on campus the recruiting rankings mean absolutely nothing and we get to find out if they can play or not.

Sorry for the mini rant. :)

Good point. The portal is so huge. A four maybe even a five star linebacker probably doesn’t have an immediate impact like Jack Gibbens did, who was probably like a 2 star out of high school.

It looks like Kade McIntyre is no longer showing on the visit list for this weekend (or are OV's now only one-day events??), which makes sense as it is showing he committed to OU on June 13.

Was supposed to visit here and then K-State on the 24th. Visited OU on June 8 and Iowa on June 10. https://247sports.com/player/kade-mcintyre-46131447/

Now just Tyler Brown this weekend, a late offer at WR.

We appear to be his only P5 offer.
