Gophers in the portal

He hasn't even announced he is in the portal. Although I know his relative who posts on here was disappointed they burned his redshirt.
Honest question, as I don't remember, but doesnt he also get the extra covid year? So a redshirt kind of doesn't matter, right?

You fellow Texas football for very long and you'll realize it's a real sewing circle.

Think of the JD Spielman speculation threads. . . now times it by 100 and for every single scenario. It's what made the former Longhorns message board legendary.

Now, I'm not saying Boyd isn't going anywhere, he certainly could transfer. I really have no idea.

But keep this in mind about Boyd. He didn't grow up with Ewers. He transferred into that school his senior year to play football. He then was only there from August/July until January (he was an early commit). The couple times the rumor has come up it almost implies like "Ewers to play football with his childhood pal".

If Ewers goes to UT, A&M or Oklahoma, does Boyd really make that change? Those depth charts look a lot more cluttered than ours. I'm sure they would give Boyd an offer with Ewers, but it's not an easy fit for Boyd to see early playing time.

Now Texas Tech . . . this is the one that's interesting. Texas Tech seems to be going all in on the Texas HS football route (imagine if NDSU hired Mike Grant and a bunch of the local HS coaches). The rumor is that Ewers' and Boyd's HS coach might join the staff at Texas Tech. If that happens, it could certainly happen.

Boyd isn't even in the portal. If going somewhere with Ewers was his goal wouldn't he already be in the portal so he could talk with other schools? If he is good enough that we need to worry about losing him, then I assume he'll have an expanded role here next year.

Makes sense to me. Signing day is fast approaching, so it makes sense that most "difficult conversations" would've already needed to happen with players planning to transfer. But I have zero inside info. Hope he doesn't leave, but I guess we'll see...

Gophers now have had 10 players enter portal.
scholarship players to portal since 8/1
P5:
Syracuse - 13
Indiana -12
FSU, Virginia - 11
Minnesota - 10

That stinks. I want that Samoan connection! West coast is full of big Pacific Islanders.

I liked his tape. Seemed to have good potential. Man this is like the Wild West.
Yes, this Portal thing IS like the Wild West! Thank God for Gopher Hole. I know that folks here will keep me updated on the progression/regression of players who have transferred out.

You missed Wisconsin - 11.

Iowa - 4, but their most recent transfer out was their 3rd string QB who was a 4* out of TX. Left them with only three scholarship QBs on their roster right now.

I wonder how conference/division champs are fairing with transfers out vs middle of the pack and lower teams

No offense or disrespect to you Sir, but Boyd attended Carroll his Jr. and Sr. years. He and Ewers
played together for two years.

What I've noticed with the QB portal transfers is there are highly rated kids that probably never dealt with being 3rd/4th string guys and it's a shock to them and especially the parents.

Some are bitter, most just look for a better spot.
