All Things P.J. Fleck Rumor Mill Thread - Listed as Candidate for Other Jobs

I think USC and other programs are smart enough to know that a guy like PJ is a damn good coach whether we win 10 games this year or not. It's fans and media who make such up and down valuations of coaches year-to-year.
Yeah fair points, although fan/media perceptions of coaches do weigh into hiring decisions. If I were USC, I’d still want to see how this year goes before pulling the trigger on Fleck (especially because he is so polarizing) but we’ll see. Row the Boat, Fight On, Go Trojans (🤢).

USC is a tar pit. You are loved and is a celebrity as long as you are winning.

I don't think they will be tolerant of PJ's Zig-Zag chart.

USC was a school that PJ Fleck mentioned was on his list before he took the MN job

I can see that PJ would be attractive to USC as he and Pete Carroll are similar, but I can't see PJ leaving

Easy for him to say. If PJ doesn't leave, no one will remember Gaard making this statement. But...if PJ leaves for USC then Gaard will toot his horn big time about this.
Isn’t that true for every prediction ever? Very very few people are remembered for sports predictions.

Gaard can always say USC didn’t offer and we’ll likely never know.

PJ is very confident, personable, media savvy, a self marketing extraordinaire, flashy. He likes the spotlight and the flash. I can’t think of a single coach flashier than him that is more made for the bright lights of Hollywood. His $2000 Gucci suits and shoes fit in much better there than Matt Campbell’s hoodie and farmer bent bill ball cap.

LA is a horrible place, and getting worse. PJ has a job to do here and hasn't done it yet - and his family reportedly likes the state of Minnesota.

Is that what Fox News told you? Do you realize how many areas of LA are extraordinarily nice, and the ability to make money outside of salary is astronomical. Beach, Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Pacific Palisades, Orange County......

Southern California is great if you're rich and he's rich. So it won't really impact PJ.

That said, the exodus out of LA isn't a myth. You don't have to watch Foxnews to know it's real, you'd have to just read media reports from the far right sources like the LA Times, NY Times, and every single major media outlet on the left and the right. I recently bought a home in Austin, Texas and almost every neighbor of mine is from California. If you had all of 8 minutes out

I lived in LA for years, I love LA, it's still home to me. There is a decent chance that I move back soon, but the exodus is real and LA is struggling.

To be fair, it seems every "greater Minnesotan" agrees with them on Minneapolis.......
And also anyone with access to the newspaper, a computer, or a set of eyes.

Violence is MPLS has grown a ton. It isn't unique to MPLS, it's a problem in most major cities, but that doesn't make it less of a problem, does it?

I was just drinking a beer in PJ's garage and he told me he isn't even thinking about it. OK, I was in my own garage talking to myself and......................

Whoever USC hires will be fired before the 2026 season starts. That much I’m certain of.

In fact, I’m already over this USC head coach search. Let’s talk about their next hire.

Who do you think makes their short list in 2024/2025?

So maybe it be better if PJ goes now, and then we hire him back after 3-4 miserable years with Mike Sanford as our head coach.

That quote by Franklin doesn't sound like he's a lock to stay at PSU.
I agree, but that’s cool that he is up front with his team about it. Or at least addressed it with them.

I will forever remember James Franklin as the coach who screwed over Kirk Ciarrocca.

Maybe PJ Fleck will hire his friend back if Mike Sanford, Jr. for any reason becomes mobile.

I'm a Gopher Fan. If PJ wants to stay, that's awesome. If not, I'll be all in on the next coach.

Doesn't really matter at this point as he's the coach and all else is just guessing.

Let's roll this week in Boulder

It’d be interesting to hear Mason’s logic behind that answer.
He’s a guy that spent 8 years at Kansas without a better “Go” option. Left for “us” after year 9.
He spent 10 years at Minnesota without a better “Go” option.

I heard him say for ten years after an average year (and typically a bowl loss, when we made one) “It’s hard to win at Minnesota“, and grin and head to the golf course.

He was a lazy ass coach that wanted the job at tOSU, and never worked hard enough to get the job done here.

So, yeah, Glen…Go…Go f yourself.

Mason had a better "go" option at KU, he literally took the Georgia job for a day or two and then some personal family issues forced him back to KU which was an absolute disaster series of events for him and KU until he upgraded and went to Minnesota.

Go Gophers!!

Yeah, took the Georgia job, got scared and claimed “child custody” issues and stayed at Kansas, then left for Minnesota less than a year later.

Grinnin’ Glen is the 2nd most disliked coach in my lifetime, behind Lou “Serial Cheater” Holtz.
