THAT is how Wisconsin and Iowa got to be where thy are today. With Mason in mind, it would be great to have a coach who announces, after just a few years as head coach, "I'm not going anywhere. I came to build this program and have no interest in any other job."
the problem is our defense isn't good, so it's hard to be defense first with a bad defenseThe issue with Zim is that it feels like there is a ceiling on how far we can go with an old school, defense first, run the ball coach in the 2021 NFL. And that ceiling is probably never making the Super Bowl. So at some point you have to try something else, even if it might turn out worse.
Winning sells tickets everywhere.Unless PJ would be willing to change his system, I don't think Tressel ball would sell tickets in LA. He is a midwest guy with a midwest style offense and loves his connection to Illinois and how close he is to that home area, living here. Not to mention where do his kids live? I doubt he would pick up and move further from those kids than he already is. It is not ALL about coaching nationally but it is about winning for him. If he can build the Gophers up he knows we will build a statue and name a stadium after him. He can build this program up, he knows it.
Yeah, hard to trust a stranger about that but I *could* see something like that being in play. IANAL so I wouldn't know what specifics something like that could have. Some guy just called into KFAN and said Fleck can't leave because there is some sort of custody agreement with his ex-wife where he has to stay within a certain distance and Southern California is obviously too far away. I don't think I buy that.
Are you nuts? He’s a guy that spent 8 years at Kansas without a better “Go” option. Left for “us” after year 9.
He spent 10 years at Minnesota without a better “Go” option.
I heard him say for ten years after an average year (and typically a bowl loss, when we made one) “It’s hard to win at Minnesota“, and grin and head to the golf course.
He was a lazy ass coach that wanted the job at tOSU, and never worked hard enough to get the job done here.
So, yeah, Glen…Go…Go f yourself.
Not sure why your bedroom habits are being discussed here...Yeah, hard to trust a stranger about that but I *could* see something like that being in play. IANAL so I wouldn't know what specifics something like that could have.
This I agree with. I think it's possible PJ could be interested in the job, but I think it's unlikely that he's very high on USC's list, even though I think he would thrive there.I think for PJ Fleck to end up in USC, first several coaches would have to tell USC "no thanks"
MaybeAre you nuts?
I hear you for the most part, but this...Did you see the pregame of the Raiders-Ravens. The theatrics and all the bs going on? Maybe nothing new there, as I'm not a big NFL guy, but it looked like WWF on Monday. NCAA has plenty of similar junk I'm sure, but that was gross and reminded me of watching TBS as a child. Haha. For myself I can already foresee a future of utilizing my limited personal time to becoming an NFL fan again
I don't buy that at all. What does it matter with air travel? Fleck can afford to buy plane tickets every week for the whole family. Some guy just called into KFAN and said Fleck can't leave because there is some sort of custody agreement with his ex-wife where he has to stay within a certain distance and Southern California is obviously too far away. I don't think I buy that.
Who knows? The guy claimed he got it from a Strib article right after he was hired. I'm more than a little skeptical that article exists.I don't buy that at all. What does it matter with air travel? Fleck can afford to buy plane tickets every week for the whole family.

Gutless loser mentality right there. No wonder glen never accomplished much.
Intermittently best of a horsesht big ten west?THAT is how Wisconsin and Iowa got to be where thy are today.
Out of all the traditional "helmet" schools, USC is the best fit in my mind. There are plenty of places other than uniforms to put his RTB and other mantras. I could see ROW still on the top front of the helmet placement as most programs use it for something.USC has been incredibly insular since Carroll left. Every coach has had some link to either Carroll or one of Carroll’s top lieutenants, ie Kiffin. That string seems to have played itself out to the bitter end, with Helton retained far longer than any sane USC fan preferred.
The reality is this IMHO: if PJF wants to build his own legacy with a chance to rebuild a great program, and be a big fish in a small lake he’s a Minnesota lifer. If he wants an easier path to reach for the brass ring and compete for national titles year in and year out he’s gone, sooner or later. There are few better spots than USC for that.
PJF is a good fit for Orange County, LA, and southern CA style-wise, but I’m not sure USC is. They are not going to be putting paddles on helmets. They don’t even put names on jerseys.
Being realistic, knowing PJF is inherently driven and an insane competitor I will not be surprised if he jumps to one of USC, UM, PSU, ND, or possible a southern school. Sorry but that’s my opinion. I have come to love PJF and his many idiosyncrasies and will be upset if he leaves but NCAA is changing for the worse before our eyes. For myself I can already foresee a future of utilizing my limited personal time to becoming an NFL fan again as the NCAA game becomes a constant churn of transfers, NIL lures, tampering, gambling, and corrupt conference league offices and officials.
I don't know. He's one of those weird underdog outwork you types that really carries a chip on their shoulder. He could probably do alright at a number of those schools. Would they feel more rewarding? Obviously, I'm not PJ, I have no idea. But I do feel like most of the reasons for people thinking PJF will leave is just Minnesota sports fans being Minnesota sports fans.USC has been incredibly insular since Carroll left. Sorry, I don't see USC changing the uniforms for PJ or for anyone. Far too much tradition in that look, we are talking about the same look for decades. OJ Simpson wore the same uniform as the Trojans have today.Out of all the traditional "helmet" schools, USC is the best fit in my mind. I said right in the post "other than the uniforms"...I was just saying I could see letting him use that little space on the helmet between the two screws for ROW.Sorry, I don't see USC changing the uniforms for PJ or for anyone. I see. I still say no way.I said right in the post "other than the uniforms"...I was just saying I could see letting him use that little space on the helmet between the two screws for ROW.
The NFL is such a strange animal too. Zimmer is the HC who clearly doesn't have much say in the QB. I don't even know if it's so much that Zimmer wants a run first offense or if it's Spielman. The issue with Zim is that it feels like there is a ceiling on how far we can go with an old school, defense first, run the ball coach in the 2021 NFL. And that ceiling is probably never making the Super Bowl. So at some point you have to try something else, even if it might turn out worse.
You do make a good point here and I am not one of those people who hates Cousins. I think you can go to a Super Bowl with an average QB, I just don't know if you can do it while paying him elite money (less $ for other positions).Yes. But offensive minded coaches have taken Jared Goff and Jimmy G to Super Bowls and Cousins is arguably better than both of them.
