My point is that I think Michigan completely and totally F'ed things up hiring Moore, they had to can him after what happened (zero question there), and were kinda screwed over on hiring any kind of major candidate ... so they reached and grabbed a guy who is a square peg for a round hole. Probably had to offer him a huge amount of money to get him not to retire.

Maybe it will work out, who knows.

It happens. Gutey post Holtz and Claeys post Kill same type hires certainly different reasons why ours didn’t work compared to Michigan.

If you’re at Michigan, you’re casting a wide net. They’re working back channels to a lot of coaches/agents including Sabin, Deboer,Brohm, etc.
They needed a coach before the portal opens to protect their players and look for new players. Whittingham is working the phones and in person visits hard right now to protect the flock. He’s a solid choice to put them back on track.

Where do you think Whittingham was on their list?

Probably pretty low. Fleck leaving for in conference that’s what someone like Lame Kiffin does while his team is still in the playoffs.
