***OFFICIAL OHIO STATE AT MINNESOTA SEASON OPENING IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

First game, really tough opponent. Let's see how they adjust when going up against teams that are not stacked with NFL talent all over the field that has to be accounted for on every play. Plenty of room for improvement on D but Ohio State gets explosive plays against everyone....it is just what they do.
I agree.
One thing with opening with them is it showed what areas we need to work on in a hurry. There are some signs of a competent defense, but competent doesn't cut it against OSU

It was a decent game. I don't know how good OSU is at this point of season but the Gophers hung tough. Also, I still have questions about Morgan - I think 2 seasons ago was a testament to the receivers he had as he still seems a bit gun shy and makes some bad decisions - a big one being in the 1st quarter when his screen pass could have/should have been picked off. Hopefully, we are good enough to beat most of the weaker B1G teams. Sadly, with the monetization of college football, I think we are missing the chance to beat OSU before they become NFL-Lite with a majority of their backups with money deals making recruiting impossible. I really hate this aspect of college football and I am even contemplating not watching anymore. As a Minnesota fan, it is about support for the school over winning at all costs for me - and this new dynamics really hurt this.
You are literally a nut job if you weren't impressed with Morgan overall tonight. He stepped up big. Did he miss a few throws? Yes. Did he move the football and lead his team to within a few plays of a monster upset. Yes. He is a stud and I would want him as the face of any program I am a fan of. A true leader in every respect.

Agreed. His receivers let him down several times. I hope they improve.

Not only was the targeting not called they didn't even look at it. They looked to see if it was a fumble. I thought helmet to helmet was pretty much an automatic review?

@%#%$&^%!!!! 🤡💩

Fox Sports Announcers = Fair-weathered tOSU Sycophants!

Agreed, thought Morgan was very solid. I like the promise of the receivers too. Keep building here.

Morgan was great. Coaching had their heads too far up their butt to make better use of him tonight. You'd think when Mo goes out, they'd pivot more to the pass, but no. They run plays like there are 200 minutes left in the game.

This, I don't understand, at all. I've haven't seen that crap since.....Leidner getting hit helmt crown-to-chin in the endzone vs OSU.

Take your fandom out of it, you never want to see a defenseless receiver laid out like that. It's not "American football". Times have changed and the rules are different now in the interest of trying to keep players safe. I never liked Gus Johnson anyway, but good gravy, it was disappointing to hear him talk like that.
How about the OSU linebackers hit on Morgan at the beginning. That play should be a penalty to protect the defender. Did you see his neck on that hit?😯

With Mo likely done for the year, I'd really like to see Irving or Ky Thomas mix in with Potts a little more. I've seen enough of Cam Wiley over the past couple years and I really just don't think he's got it. The coaching staff really seems to like him though so I wouldn't be surprised if they ride him.

Morgan moved the team against OSU even the CAB and Mo out of the game. Bodes well. Tough to tell yet if our defense is improved. Don’t recall Pinckney being a factor. Gibbens was OK. We had Cal Swenson in a lot at safety. I really like him against the run, but wonder if something was up with Howden.

Just loved the Gus Johnson-Joel Klatt "I don't want to see him miss a half against Oregon" OSU patsy argument. Clearly have their priorities in order...
Reminds me of the moronic statements by Dan Dakich

There were 3 long passes that should have been TDs, but OSU interfered and weren’t called for it. There was a 4th long pass where our receiver had steps and held up and then couldn’t catch back up to the ball.

So I don’t think they let him down as much as you might think.

Wiley is an athlete, but isn’t a natural running back.

Sure, but good experienced receivers still make those plays. Average receivers don't. They need to step up.

Day is 18-0 against the Big 10

17 of those are double digit wins

The talent gap is just out of this world.

keep in mind OSU has a great line and top-line players at every position. D looked bad, but might not look as bad against lesser talent. Er at least I hope so

I agree. Cam doesn’t run with determination and shows no lateral movement to avoid tackles.

OSU gets the benefit of a lot of PI non-calls. They are the King. They did beat us on the merits, so I hate to moan over the non-calls—but it is aggravating.

I’d really like to see Fleck light up the refs at the press conference, at least regarding their refusal to protect his player who clearly got knocked out by head to head hit. Why is there a rule if they are just going to let kids get their brains knocked out with no consequences? Either have the rule and enforce it fairly or don’t have a rule. This is the thing that pisses me off most about that whole game.

Can someone explain pj’s predictably unpredictable use of timeouts? He seems to burn them at random times and is something that has not changed since he got here.

Playing through contact is one thing, being held while still running to the ball is another.
