***OFFICIAL OHIO STATE AT MINNESOTA SEASON OPENING IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

Too bad that the refs decided to really screw things up tonight.

Gophers were rolling. Then the 15 yd seriously stupid & unnecessary roughing by that lineman, and then a 10 yd holding on the next play. Punt. Give up 14 quick points. Energy out of the stadium. And now Mo is hurt. This feels completely Minnesota.
Game turned on those two penalties. Tough for an experienced line.

We didn't cover did we? Man, so many dumb ass mistakes. And of course losing Mo. Feels like typical MN sports. But I like our odds the rest of the season.
If you bet and didn't buy an extra point to make it 14.5, that's on you.

Warren in town tonight. Wonder if Fleck will get in his ear?

Good battle, tough opponent, bodes well for the rest of the season......but of course there is the Mo injury hanging out there....would suck to lose him but we have some options at RB so hopefully can pick up the slack.
Uh, unfortunately, no. Defense is appalling.

Mitch Liedner 2.
What a Chicken Shit non-call and the announcer are just as stupid for supporting the non-call
This! Would be interesting if someone could look at how many calls were reviewed for targeting against Ohio State and how many were actually called compared to all the other teams in the Big Ten.

No defense, inept defense.........that's all that matters. I just don't get why we can't get to at least respectability. Zero pass rush yet again this year. Gapping holes to run through.

YAWN

I will cheer against the Big Ten making the college football playoff this year and maybe the next few years because of their officiating. I seriously wonder if the Big Ten has ever called a targeting penalty against Ohio State?
When Wade hit Trevor Lawrence a couple years ago they called it, because you know...it was Trevor Lawrence. Otherwise I'm guessing you're right.

First game, really tough opponent. Let's see how they adjust when going up against teams that are not stacked with NFL talent all over the field that has to be accounted for on every play. Plenty of room for improvement on D but Ohio State gets explosive plays against everyone....it is just what they do.

This “may” be hyperbolic but Big Ten leadership, these refs, Ohio state , Gus Johnson dead to me from this day forward. This is as shady as it gets. Crickets from the officiating guru.
Big Ten: Gotta get OSU into the playoffs. One set of rule for the king; another set for the subjects. Like OSU needs the refs acting as their fluffiest. They already have such a talent advantage.

It was a decent game. I don't know how good OSU is at this point of season but the Gophers hung tough. Also, I still have questions about Morgan - I think 2 seasons ago was a testament to the receivers he had as he still seems a bit gun shy and makes some bad decisions - a big one being in the 1st quarter when his screen pass could have/should have been picked off. Hopefully, we are good enough to beat most of the weaker B1G teams. Sadly, with the monetization of college football, I think we are missing the chance to beat OSU before they become NFL-Lite with a majority of their backups with money deals making recruiting impossible. I really hate this aspect of college football and I am even contemplating not watching anymore. As a Minnesota fan, it is about support for the school over winning at all costs for me - and this new dynamics really hurt this.

Oh he was only basically knocked out by a helmet to helmet hit....

they get to freely grab and interfere on all pass plays too.

Take your fandom out of it, you never want to see a defenseless receiver laid out like that. It's not "American football". Times have changed and the rules are different now in the interest of trying to keep players safe. I never liked Gus Johnson anyway, but good gravy, it was disappointing to hear him talk like that.

I like this team and really hurts to lose Mo obviously. Think we'll be alright on O. Might turn more into passing and liked what Tanner did. Wright and Jackson are promising. This year will be solid with those 2 and CAB when he comes back.

But that defense. Oh my. Continuing to give up ridiculous big plays. Not ready on a lot of snaps. A lot of coaching issues IMO.

EDIT Understandable it's OSU but I still think there's legit reasons to be concerned. Hoping they can improve as we move into Miami Oh next weekend and continue building.

I think Mo's injury makes this team a borderline bowl team. The lines and QB are strong. Receivers are rough and could improve, but definitely not not ready for primetime. LBs and D backs have a loooooong way to go. Missing Mo, CAB and Howden is troubling.

I like this idea.

Yup TM was one of the biggest disappointment along with D. As a senior he seems lost at times. I wish he had more time to pass. But he need to be more mature and better as a leader and senior.

“ think it was a good football play. If you see guys leaving their feet then it’s targeting” - Gus Johnson

See an optometrist Gus.

Just loved the Gus Johnson-Joel Klatt "I don't want to see him miss a half against Oregon" OSU patsy argument. Clearly have their priorities in order...
