Official 2022 Gophers Football Recruiting Thread: Links, Tweets, Videos, Rumors

Well, a grayshirt (or a maroonshirt, for that matter) isn't really signing the guy in that class, because he either isn't on the team at all in the fall (gray) or he's actually a PWO the first year (maroon).

So that's a bit of semantics.

I don't think that "less than 25 the year prior" is valid. Otherwise, you could have a team sign 15 new counters one year, and you're saying they can sign 35 the next year? I doubt that.

The 25 rule (and it was tweaked I think in 2017 or 2018 to take away some loopholes) was primarily driven by SEC oversignings. In 2009 Ole Miss signed like 37 players? Just silly
If they enroll early they can count towards last years class. You can have up to five of these from what I’ve gathered. Assuming you had five spots available from the prior year.

Hopefully, the scholarship counter for the Gophers isn't asleep at the wheel. Counting just got more complicated with the Transfer Portal in addition to maroon and gray shirts.

Interesting! I guess there are still loopholes, to a small extent. Thanks

I do believe those Aggies were expecting Justin Walley to join his brother.

You sayin Stanford isn’t in the Ivy League??
Not in the Ivy League conference no, but a top notch school and while not technically an ivy league school, some would argue, it could belong. Can't blame a kid for choosing Stanford.

I actually think after this year it might get a little easier. Every school will have a bunch of scholarship players with eligibility that will also be college graduates. I really believe most coaches don't force kids out very often, but that changes quite a bit after someone graduates. More so than other years, coaches will have the ability to "make room".

Class is currently ranked #10 in the B1G, #38 in the country and continuing to drop. Will probably be around 50 on signing day. Not elite.

i mean frankly this year's rankings are going to be bunk with vastly different numbers of recruits taken by each team (247 gives you points for each recruit), though as of now the class does not have the "top end" similar to last year with 4 4 stars (only 1 this year as of the ratings now)

Flecks probably like F*************ck why’d I’d accept all these commitments so early. But yeah, not elite on paper, but the west has been won with much worse.

I feel like I've heard this every year around this time, and then it comes to signing day and we've added a good player and commits get bumped in ratings and everything is fine.

Cooled on him.

I mean yeah, he officially visited Iowa and Iowa State, but meh.
Nothing too cool on if we never offered a scholarship in the first place. No way of knowing why he wasn't offered a scholarship but for one reason or another the coaching staff must have felt he wasn't a fit for our system.

If this class had a little more on paper star power at the top those that panic about recruiting rankings would feel much better about things.

I see Alvarez got a small bump into the 80s and is now a 3 star. His number still brings our average down a fair amount and if the class stays small it is going to make it tough for us to look good in the team rankings which tend to favor bigger classes given how they are setup.

In the end it still looks like we are bringing in legit power 5 talent so all you can really do is trust the staff to be identifying and getting commitments from the guys they need to make us competitors in the West and the conference as a whole.

No Gopher offer yet?...Odd. A kicking camp king.
Sure, we've got guys coming in, but....Well, you know how our kicking game has been lately.
Looks like a Michigan lock. Not only does his Twitter pic show him wearing a Michigan helmet, but it looks like he's gotten his entire Rosemount team to join him in wearing those ugly lids. Then again, he's got everyone to also put "Irish" on the front of their unis, so maybe a Notre Dame lean as well...

Assuming Bixby early commitment factored in here…

We have taken several DE recruits in the past two years. Plus, our top two commitments this year, Bixby and Smith, are both DEs and much closer to B1G playing size. I think the numbers just weren’t there this year (small class) for a 3rd DE commit.
