Next Gopher Head Coach

I’ll hold my hand up on being wrong about Moser. Really impressed with how they handled Illinois. It’s going to be difficult for Underwood to replicate the talent he has on this team, this was the year if they were going to make a run.

While Illinois got screwed in the sense that Loyola is under-seeded, that was an egg they just laid. I'm surprised.

Looking around now is crazy but his agent calling around to schools that "might have an opening a year from now" is logical? OK then.

His seat was hot coming into this season. They had a good year, but last night undid most of that with the fans and I'd imagine the donors. If he doesn't get fired now, he probably needs an Elite 8 type run next year.

It's very similar to Tubby's situation. It wouldn't be that shocking if he looked around. Even though you apparently think MN is a terrible job, it's the best non-Indiana job open at the moment, which wasn't true in 2007.
Look we're hijacking this thread so this will be my last comment on it...

Shaka isn't leaving Texas to take a current open job...it's a downgrade no matter where he goes.

For the sake of fun and keeping it cival I'll wager whatever you want that he does not leave Texas for a current gig...hell because i think it's so preposterous I'll give you 10:1 odds. If my point is soooo ridiculous you should jump at those odds

Any chance at Porter Moser? I really haven't researched him much, but after watching his team, he'd be my first phone call. They play aggressive defense and run a smart offense and he makes adjustments.

$4M to former coach of Montana and Milwaukee Bucks for two years each.
You just switched the goal posts on him. His point was that if someone offered smith $3M we could match it. You're twisting the dialog to make it seem like he was pushing for it.

Texas fans absolutely hate Shaka Smart and want him fired. If they were going to make noise in the tournament, this was the year. Next year will be a rebuilding year and I doubt he'd survive it. I could easily see him leaving Texas for another job. With all of that said.. I DO NOT want him. He sucks as a coach. He'd likely have Pitino like results here, unless he totally revamps his offensive approach.

Yes, I could, if that someone tried to pass off that information as his own, rather than attributing it to the source.

Which was the point of the post you quoted.

This is way over your head. You think WriterGoph was selling it?

You think if I read Sid's article in the Star Tribune and then told my buddies about "supposedly, the Gophers might offer the job to Tony Dungy" that the Strib would have a cause of action? Or that they would even care? LOL

I've always known you weren't playing with a full deck but give your head a shake.

And I counted with: why wouldn't Utah offer $4M, like they're paying the current coach who frankly would've been less qualified than Smith?

I like your thought process. Porter seems like a very good coach with super assistants. Call him Mark

Which should surprise nobody, particularly me. I should know better. My bad.

A coach from the Mountain West isn't getting $4 million right off the bat. That would make him one of the 10 highest paid coaches in college basketball.

Then why did they pay the bum they had that much??

So you think if you told your buddies "the Gophers are going to have a coach by early this week" that Justin Gaard could sue you? Justin is smart enough that he wouldn't even be pissed.

I'm not shocked you're running away from trying to make your point. You always dig in on horrific takes.

I think if I read a reporter's work on GI, then come to GH and post it as my own "inside source," without mentioning I got it from reading GI, that's wrong and would make me .... douche-ish.

Which was the original point.

Nobody, anywhere, was taking about lawsuits, except you and MPLSGopher, who is almost as large a tool as you.

Done.

Just read all 86 pages of this thread and you will be all caught up.

General consensus seems to be that he's not terribly interested in MN. Will surely have options at Marquette and probably Indiana now.

Have been surprised that Dane Fife's name hasn't been brought up. Certainly knows the B1G. Had about a 5 year stint as the head coach at Fort Wayne and took them from the doghouse to an 18 win season before going to Michigan State. Saw his name mentioned in an article about the Indiana job.

And that her name would be huge in recruiting. There was always a question of whether she could coach. Ben Johnson is Lindsey without the name recognition.
Sorry, this is a bad take. Lindsey revolutionized how people see women's basketball here. It went from underwater basket weaving with two people in the stands to The Barn and the final four. Comparing Ben to that is incredibly detrimental to him. It's just not fair.

Because he was there for quite a while and turned them from a 6 win team to a sweet 16 team in 4 years. There were likely some pay raises involved along the line.

I didn't mean to undersell her. The OP made the comparison because of her lack of coaching experience. That part is similar. The rest is not, but "name recognition" probably doesn't do it justice so point taken.

Dane Fife is probably a name that should be mentioned more.

If the hire isn’t one of the more frequent names mentioned I would be more surprised if the hire was someone like Wes Miller than Dan Fife.

Ben Johnson couldn't recruit the MN kids when he was here and apparently that's a requirement to many.

He missed on Jones x2, vaughn, Travis, macura, trent, sims...just a few off the top of my head
Exactly, just because they know you and like you doesn’t mean they will play for you.

I fai to see why the Marquette job would be better than the Loyola job.
The Indiana job is where coaches go to die.
Moser is a bright guy.
He can stay where he is, get a nice raise and more job security and wait for a job like Duke or NC opens up.
Aside from being in the BIG, which has not covered themselves in glory the last two days, why is MN a better job than Loyola?
