College Football Will Be Postponed

If the season IS moved to Spring, will we get our original, including non-conference schedule back?
I think it depends on:

What is the state of everything come spring.

What everyone else does.

Can't play Wahoo St. if their conference decides to cancel entirely.

Masks are required to enter those stores as is distancing.
Both stores are essential to the population at large.
College football is not.
They are absolutely not essential to living.

AIDS is the late stage of Human Immunodeficiency Virus.
AIDS is a disease, caused by a virus. Same as covid19 is a disease, caused by a virus.

To say that a disease is a virus, or is the virus, is grammatically and factually wrong.

It's probably for the best.

You can never be too safe.

If you are administrators for a college, I don't see how you can turn a blind eye to the risk involved.

Our governor projected like a hundred thousand deaths thanks to the help of U of M's own Osterholm.
How can you have someone like Osterholm and still proceed with playing a high contract sport?

This is high level sarcasm, folks.

Heart disease is not a highly contagious viral infection... Lining up across from on another and breathing into each others faces and piling up on the running back are things people should not do during a pandemic.

Does it matter to you though, if they are screened for the virus prior to every game and contact practice? What is the risk, then?

No. That's a terrible idea to try to condense two seasons into a time span of just over half of a year. I would think the players and coaches would be even more upset about that than the issue of playing this fall.

I could see the 2 season plan within a calendar working if both were abbreviated. 8 - 9 game season in the spring followed by the same in the fall would be 16-18 games. Not drastically different. Of course that's predicated on things changes for the much better by Jan-Feb. Teams in the BCS Title game play 15 games within 5 months.

Yeah who cares if a player gets infected and that causes a heart disease that will kill them in their 30’s, and it was entirely preventable by cancelling the fall season?? Just so long as it never gets transmitted during a game. That’s what matters.

Well maybe more likely, they get it and pass it on to someone who is vunerable.... a family member or etc.... and by playing you tell them "well man just don't go see your family!"

With proper testing the players would be highly unlikely to transmit the virus while in football activities.

You are assuming they won’t contract the virus at home which has is wishful thinking. This is 100% about shifting liability.

Yes, a small number of people will likely have long term problems from the virus which is terrible, but also probably unavoidable in the end. It’s true the calculus of who gets what when will be altered in lottery fashion.

This is going to be an incredibly messy week. Not totally sure all conferences are going to cancel and there will be a movement to allow players to migrate freely. Could also see a couple big ten programs try to go there own way for the fall. Buckle up.

What? Cancelling football is magically going to end the pandemic? This is great news! These players will not get COVID thanks to Kevin Warren! We are all saved!!

Get what you are saying here but this isn't about the players not getting covid. It is about avoiding liability and not having to deal with the organizing effort the players are making. Don't underrate that component.

The players are going to be just as likely, if not more likely to contract the disease outside of college football. There they are even more likely to pass it on to family members.

The schools are just washing their hands of any responsibility, and likely putting players more in danger.
I think that depends on what the players are ... doing. If they're out partying every night sure, but otherwise ...

One guy at practice I suspect can pass it on pretty dang good...

I am interested to see if the players can save the season, but this is the entirety of almost all decision making over the past 6 months.

I agree with this.
But I don’t think I’d say “putting players in more danger”

they likely will still be on campus and likely still do workouts. That’s probably part of the decision making process.

how much risk you give yourself is now more in the hands of the student athlete than it was before.

I don’t think it makes a difference either way.

Everything in life is risk, Since my mother-in-law was diagnosed a few years ago with Emphyzema we have only gotten together when everyone is healthy. That's tough when someone gets a bug around Christmas, but better to get together off holiday and not kill Grandma. We could still infect her with something when not showing symptoms, but that's the risk you take to not quit living in order to not die. Odds that a player catches covid, constant testing misses it, they are asymptomatic, and pass on some elderly person they see sporadically are pretty low but not zero. If they catch it and know they have it, asking them to take two weeks off from seeing at risk people in their family isn't a life sentence.

Why? Because you believe that the pandemic is based off of actual truth and facts? It is a political reach. That is all. Forced by the hands of the more powerful.
Alaska has always been the hot spot for scientific research.
The irony here is I get the feeling that many of the people who have been following our POTUS' lead in thinking this was a hoax and not be willing to mask up for the greater good, are now the ones most pissed that as a country we failed to contain this virus.

Not at all unavoidable. Effective, safe, widely available (hundreds of millions of doses already purchased) vaccines (plural) coming soon.

Rick Neuheisel said OSU, Mich, PSU and N have reached out the big 12 about this fall season.
Heard this on the radio this morning.

Kick Nebraska the F out, then. Back to the Big XII where you belong. You were never good enough to be one of us. Just proving it now.
