Can’t he just sit out that game?

Maybe he and Rick thought there were going to be blanket waivers because of the updated guidelines, and they were transferring to Alabama.

I would sit out a game against NE. Just skip the trip. Maybe he can be eligible immediately if he can claim missing home.

However, playing for TCU in SEC may improve his draft stock. However, will he have to sit out a year? Is there going to be a blanket waiver? Who knows. It is all speculation until we actually see the announcement.

Has anyone ever done that? Sit out a game vs a former team just for that purpose?

That is a very real possibility as well. He isn’t a kid that loves the game even though it comes easy for him. If he plays again however it will likely be at Oregon State or TCU who just got into the picture very recently.

I mean, that just means whoever posted the image tagged him in the tweet. Doesn't indicate that he had anything to do with it.

I understand how Twitter tagging works. But he posted a picture of JD Spielman's name coming up in a search of the TCU student directory. I wasn't referring to the Twitter @.
 



Doesn't deserve a waiver to move farther away from his home town.

Hope he is denied, in that case.

Would seem odd that he could get a waiver to go play at a school like TCU, but his dad has money so I suppose that greatly improves his odds of getting one.
 



Not bad for JD. TCU just lost a 1st Rd WR. QB was recruited by Fleck and had a solid, yet erratic, freshmen campaign. Plus he could potentially justify waiver as family has a relationship with Kill (at least that is the story his lawyer would spin). Also could argue family has a good relationship with the color purple.

Does make me wonder if there are issues with Spielman and Fleck.

His Twitter handle is Tazy. And Spielman, JD (Tazy) is what shows in the picture of the student directory search screen grab the person tweeted. That person tweeted @ Tazy to see if he would respond.

I don't care about the @. What I noted was the link between JD's twitter name and the name in the directory. Two different things.

I swear half you people on this board just read posts to find an "I gotcha!" moment. Good for you.

At this stage I could care less if he comes to MN. He had a chance once and now a second chance and has not committed to coming. If he ultimately does fine, if he doesn't no big deal. He would be a plus but we will be fine without him.

Totally agree with this. You want guys that are crazy about being part of this.
 

If JD & Rick promised Frost that they would not transfer to a Big Ten school, in order to get Nebraska's agreement/sign off on a transfer, then that is kind of that. Don't see how you can go back on that and get the waiver, as I believe the former school has some say in it.

Unless it is Iowa St, then JDS does not deserve a waiver to be immediately eligible for the 2020 season, in my opinion. TCU would be ridiculous. It doesn't matter that the coach who originally recruiting him is there now. That's still closer to being an undergraduate free-agent, than not. And that is against the core tenets of the NCAA (so they say).

Coming home, is worthy of a waiver. Doing the opposite of that, is not.

You do know that JD can transfer anywhere he wants, right? May have to sit out a year, may not, but the old NCAA transfer rules don't apply anymore.

The waiver system seems to be a roll of the dice outcome wise.

But i'm not sure the previous school gets a say in that outcome.

The NCAA doesn’t prohibit transfers, but they enforce a year sit out.

Thought it was obvious that the sitout is context of the discussion (ie, the waiver to allow immediate eligibility).

Why do you care so much if he's allowed to play at TCU? I wanted JD here as much as anyone, but he should have the freedom to go where he wants. It would have been nice to add to our roster, but at least a division opponent got weaker.

On basketball side, it was “known” that Pitt screwed up Carr’s waiver to make sure he didn’t get immediate eligibility.

Could also be Big Ten conf rules at play that supersede the NCAA?

He’s not a grad transfer. Just saying that the rules should apply to everyone equally.
