Cincinnati has a plane?

Luke doesn't know where they are / can't get there himself?

It sounds like Kiffin is the front runner for the Florida Atlantic job. I'd think he'd be better off staying at Alabama until a better opening comes around.

Florida Atlantic?!?

Just looked. Forget that Howard Schnellenberger had spent some time down there. Both sides acknowledge that there "have been discussions". Hard to argue with your point about staying at Alabama. If he does take it, also worth noting that it might be the best job he was offered.

That says a lot too.

I actually kind of like it for Kiffin.

I think it would be easier for him rebuild Florida Atlantic than a middling P5 school (who seem to be passing on him too).
We've always known that he is a valuable part of any helmet school's coaching staff (as a recruiter/coordinator), the question is whether or not he could run a program.

If he turns Florida Atlantic around and I think he would, he'd look like a pretty good candidate anywhere.

Wonder what they would be willing to pay...think Kiffin is making maybe twice what the last HC there made.

It just might be worth the pay cut just to get away from the A** chewings he gets from Saban!

FAU and South Florida now have coaches some once wanted at Minnesota.

Kiffin and Saban must have really hated each other. I knew Kiffin wanted to move, but didn't realize how badly. I laughed when his name got brought up here as a potential replacement for Claeys, but at this point you have to think he would have been a legitimate option.

He can build for three years and still be back in a P5 job at 45 years of age.

It was reported that Kiffin was done after this year at Alabama regardless if he took a head coaching job or not. FAU is a risky boom or bust for him. If he wins, he will be back in the P5 soon. If he struggles, he probably won't get an opportunity as a head coach again.

terrible take - coaching lower tier programs in recruiting hotbeds is the credited procedure for boosting your HC stock

Eh, even if he fails someone will give him a job again if he can make another successful OC run.

I don't know, maybe. If he fails, this would the 4th time. Raiders, Tennessee, USC, and now Florida Atlantic. At least now he's at a place where he should have actually started as a head coach, instead of learning on the job in the NFL or at helmet schools.

From USA Today:Though Kiffin’s name was brought up for multiple jobs across the last three years, nearly all of it was speculation and smoke rather than genuine interest in him. One person with knowledge of the matter, who had investigated Kiffin for a job, said reference calls to people who worked at USC and Tennessee basically rendered him unhireable.

which is asinine because 1. usc is two ADs out from hiring the guy and 2. tennessee has arguably the most dysfunctional athletic department in the eastern united states

Yet, the best college football coach of all time hires him to run his very successful offense..

What does that have to do with no Power 5 teams willing to hire him as head coach?

If that's true, Lane might have a nice little lawsuit against both of his former employers.

Not much you are legally allowed to say about a former employee

I'm not sure what you mean by that. Doesn't the entire process of calling on references from past employers involve employers talking about former employees? Happens all the time in many different types of jobs. As long as you tell the truth, what can't you say?

The coaching profession, much like many other professions, is a "fraternity" of sorts. Somebody knows somebody that knows somebody else. It doesn't take much to get the real story on a potential candidate. Anything can be said in those types of conversations.

Yet....we hired Brewster
