Lil Ricky Cannot Coach

Can we stop with the "we need to be patient" bullcrap?! As Gopher fans, we've been patient for years and years and years. Enough. All of you "let's be patient" folks need to step aside and let the adults take over.

Sidebar: I'm not sure who we could get as a coach seeing this program is lower than low so I don't see this program climbing out of the cellar any time soon. No, I don't think Richard is going to do the trick and not sure who could. I think it will take some 'unknown' hire who will come in and blow our socks off.
We have had so much patience we have fallen asleep. We need our socks knocked off just to pay attention to the program.

Awesome. Thanks for stepping up!

Umm...what happens when the adults don't know what to do?

This year's team is what happens when you completely screw up big man recruiting. We get nothing out of the post, and our interior defense flat out sucks. I'm also not convinced we have a point guard on the team, though I'm not passing judgment on Dorsey yet. Mason on the other hand, doesn't impress me at all.

Also per the thread title and the common practice by a small number of posters......personally I dislike it when people refer to coach as Little Ricky. Just disrespectful.

I completely agree.

I would also add the game day threads are tough to read at times with all the condescending references made about the players. "Clowns" "McBrick" "Africans" are some of my favorites this time.

Mason was impressive all of last year. Playing with many new faces this year. He'll be fine I believe

Agreed and he was trying to make things happen, just wasn't getting the calls. I also think Dorsey and McBrayer will be fine too, they can both defend so they'll always get minutes. Adding Lynch, Fitz and Coffey should help with Mason's assist numbers next year. Lynch can atleast catch the ball

Our interior defense isn't helped either when nearly every guard can drive right past their defender forcing help from the big.

So a geographical descriptor like "Africans" is now considered an insult equivalent to "Clowns" and "McBrick?" Boy, the modern educational system really did a number on you.

What do you guys think about Hurt......how much will he play next year? Will he have any impact?

I agree. If those guys were tearing it up, the term would be affectionate.

From what I hear- he's a constant motion machine who can rebound, pass and shoot and who is fundamentally sound in all aspects of the game. How many guys like that do we currently have? I think he helps off the bench from day 1.

Were people expecting us to go to Columbus and get a win last night against a team who soundly defeated UK within the past few weeks? I really don't understand the extent of outrage on these threads. Pitino correctly pointed out that Murphy going out had a huge impact and the results could have been much different (especially due to the no call in which he got hacked 2-3 times and then led to his frustration foul 90 ft from basket). If he gets the call there, knocks down free throws, tightens the game, and presumably doesn't pick up two back to back fouls. I mean let's face it, those are low 3 stars going against high 4 stars - we were athletically outmatched at every position, and they managed to scrap and hang with them for the majority of the game. My main take away was these kids are still playing their asses off for Pitino which is a big positive given state of season.

Haven't seen him play this year, but the couple times I have, he was jack of all trades, did a little bit everything. Plays in control. Excited to see him play Saturday as his box scores have been impressive this year. I think he can help off the bench next year, could potentially take some of King and Buggs minutes. Be interesting how Gilbert develops too, I imagine Hurt and Gilbert will be battling for a spot in the rotation come conference time, depth will be a nice problem to have.

I agree it's important to note that they didn't fold last night, that tells me they still believe in their coach. Some of those OSU bigs looked like Greek Gods! The freshman Groigens (sp?) will probably be riding on a white horse in an old spice commercial in ten years

I don't recall suggesting they were equivalent. Perhaps it's a grey area for me. I'd rather we just refer to the 18 and 19 year olds by their names, but maybe that's just me.

On a side note....it's too bad you are incapable of making a coherent argument against something you disagree with without resorting to the petty garbage you end so many of your posts with. Whatever....

Ooops.....forgot who I was talking about.

I've had the chance to watch him play and I agree with your assessment. He can play and won't hurt us if he is on the floor. He is a battler and will stick his nose in the middle of things to get the ball.

I strongly suggest you hold your breath on this one. You'll get to 1000 posts without accomplishing anything.

They played hard for part of the game, but not all of it. After watching yesterday's mess I can only conclude that this is now entirely on Pitino. Not on Tubby and not on anybody else. His talent and his coaching. The only potential difference maker in this year's freshmen class is Murphy. Everyone else looks to be complimentary at best. Dorsey is tough but small. McBreyer is slight and doesn't stand out at any one thing. Gilbert is as slow as King. I'm skeptical that a guy who couldn't dominate in the MVC (Lynch) will make a real difference, though he will be better than what we have.

Having said all that, firing Pitino now would be big stupid. It would take a stable mess and create disarray. Let's move him after next year when we have an AD and the new guys have settled in and the job starts to look attractive.

Thank you for stating the obvious which some people because they consider themselves such discerning fans with high standards completely missed. Got the feeling the players are still committed. Pitino deserves the criticism. The players--not much, as long as they're not quitting.

Not 100% sure what you are saying here, but I'll take a deep breath?

Happy New Year cjbfbp!

I'm saying... It's not worth your time explaining whether or not calling someone an African is derogatory or not. I'm with you on it... But convincing some of these guys you would think they grew up in a different era, which they might have.

I can't imagine how dreadful this team would be had Shaka Smart remained at VCU and Murphy not changed his commitment. It is sad when a freshman is desperately needed just to be competitive.

I'm shocked as well. It's a long ways back up and I'm starting to think this team looks a little like the one in monsons last year as far as wins and losses which doesn't bode well for pitino. I'm not sure he'll get as much time as it will take to get this team back to competing with the top big ten teams and tournament runs.

I just looked up Monson's last year and that roster was better than what we are working with right now. That team had redshirt Juniors Lawrence McKenzie and Dan Coleman and Junior Spencer Tollackson. That was a bad team that played with little effort (especially pre-firing), but those 3 guys are so much better than our current upperclassmen of Morris, King, and Buggs. Their isn't much to be excited about behind those 3 (Damian Johnson, Lawrence Westbrook, and Jamal Abu Shamala are the only guys who were consistent rotation guys in the future...though Travis Busch did have his highlight), but its scary that this group beats this group easily.

Yep we have a long way up. Hope pitino can shock us too.
