Home loss to a poor Summit League team in year 3

How many actually watched this game? I just looked at the box score. Not concerned. All I care is that mason doesn't regress, konate starts to progress, Murphy Dorsey and Mac turn into players.

Totally agree. But Reggie will be our big man next year with hope Bakary can give depth and quality minutes. My vision at least

This is correct. I have no concerns about today. We have a frosh forward who pulled 17 boards and a frosh PG that is gaining confidence and going to be great. We another frosh McBrayer who is going to be really good and an incoming class for next year that will bring us both experience and a lot of talent. Let's give this team some support and watch it get better. Pitino isn't going anywhere and next year is going to be a lot of fun.

Agree with every word in this post.

All of you are continuing to get what you wished for.

Um, no, not all of us are getting what we wished for. My wish is that I don't have to be subjected to you and your f*cking arrogance on Gopher Hole anymore.

Reggie and Murphy. Let's play!

Reg is somewhat short, slow and can't jump but he is strong as an ox... and most importantly HE CAN PLAY. Odd how that works out. Fitz could/should be big time too.

Ah, now you've gone and spoiled his christmas present...

I did. I had no idea what the game plan was yet again. They were out schemed constantly all game. I have yet to see them play the transition style game that we've heard about.

I'm as pro pitino as they come, I'll basically agree with dpo, he has as close to no chance to match that as they come.

I don't think we brought in a young, unproven coach to make him produce the same results as a National Champion coach who had been coaching since Richard was in diapers. Pitino is here to try and build something. Tubby didn't have the fire to build an entire program, IMO.

quick cliff notes on this thread...

'we lost we suck tubby won more than pitino to this point'*

*thoughts/opinions on previous posts are not my own

No problem saying goodbye to Tubby and losing this year but i do have a problem of how they hired and how that hire falls very short on soundness of defense.

Any chance that people could be civil to on another?

The Gophers have beat a team that ended up in the Final Four each of the last two seasons. They did that with a roster that likely didn't include a single player who will ever play a minute in the NBA. I think the jury is very much out on Pitino and he deserves some, perhaps much, of the criticism he is getting. That said, you can certainly point to those wins as evidence he can coach...just as you can point to some of the games this year and say he can't.

As for the clown show that started this thread. Year SEVEN of Tubby would have featured a Mo Walker hovering somewhere between 310 and 350 pounds and a dynamic young cast of players including Charles Buggs, Alex Foster, Alvin Ellis, and Wally Ellenson. Let that sink in for a moment. Unless Izzo works some Senior magic with Ellis next season, Charles Buggs will be the standout of that group which were the last 4 commits of Tubby's tenure.

I really don't care for Dpo's Schtick, but he's right here. We should feel embarrassed with today's loss and quality coaches just don't lose games like these. USD was undersized and under-talented,yet we crapped the bed. I think there is a slimmer of hope, where Pitino brings it next year. But right now, it looks like we are a bottom of the BigTen team. Pitino deserves criticism.

Defense is definately a concern, the fact that South Dakota scored 85 points sure doesn't build my confidence, good recruiting, exciting offense, and horrid defense so far. Defense has to improve dramatically or the increased talent just isn't going to matter.

my biggest concern with Pitino continues to be the big men- or lack thereof. The Gopher coaches knew they were losing Mo and EE, but they went into the season with two (my opinion) extreme projects in Konate and Gaston. The transfers should help next year, but for this year, I personally would have tried to find a JUCO big man who could have contributed immediately.

I have to assume that Pitino is trying to win games this year, but I have this (possibly) irrational feeling that this year is all about developing the FR class, while waiting for the transfers to become eligible, and adding the recruits next year. In other words, I'm not sure Pitino really cares how many games they win this year - I get the sense the coaches are already planning for next year as the breakout year, and are treating this season like extended practice for the FR, so they are ready to contribute next year when the season really counts.

South Dakota had no size and not much talent but they ran a very patient offense and didn't make a lot of mistakes. We had superior size and superior talent but we ran the usual perimeter weave mixed with hero ball. We played lethargic basketball all afternoon. You could see it in the players' body language, facial expressions and even the guys on the bench. All of the aforementioned is coaching.

I always preface my comments by saying that I was in favor of dismissing Tubby. The program had a negative vibe and was heading in the wrong direction. All but a few diehards could see that. After about twenty minutes of uncertainty I was in favor of the Pitino hire. I like him as a recruiter and I like how he communicates with the public. I like that he's young and energetic.

Having said all of that, the program is beginning to have the feel of Monson around year five. A young coach in over his head and, by year six or seven, everybody but a few folks in denial could see it. I truly hope that I'm wrong.

Fab 5. Calipari. Duke. You know what they could never accomplish? Having freshmen who brought experience. Now that is recruiting.

I wish people would stop thinking that I should feel embarrassed about some game. Frustrated, yes, but embarrassed? No. I believe Bo Ryan can be called a "quality coach." He lost a game pretty much like this one recently. We even have a thread gloating about it.
