Zebrowski details conversation with Claeys when he got fired

True. With respect to being fired, ironically, the only surprise is that they were surprised. Leave it to the GH village idiot [not you] to protest, though (as soon as he was done yelling at those kids to get off his lawn). Lmao

You have the reading comprehension of a grade schooler. Re-read my post out loud. Now read it again very slowly this time. Get your mother to help you if you can't pronounce all of the words. And use a dictionary or Google if you don't understand the meaning of all the words. Finally, try and do your very best to explain what I wrote in my post.

This is so logical. However, admitting it is right is admitting Kill failed to recognize it. Shots at Kill are not received well in the GH.

More likely Kill recognized it and decided not to move...with the offense he liked to run, it really didn't matter that much.

DURR HURR HURR LUK AT MEE I KAWL PEEPUL NAMEZ. I SO SMERT.

There was talk all over this board, and talk all over in the media about how Tubby would possibly be fired. A group of us were watching the last game and all were thinking that at least the loss meant a greater certainty of Tubby being fired.

Clayed has never struck me as disingenuous. If he said he was doing what he thought was best, I think he's earned the benefit of the doubt.

Speaking of reading carefully... I think you're taking offense to an observation not directed at you. You get an A for irony though.

I think what some folks are missing is that the awards banquet is a celebration of the team. I have had the opportunity to attend several and the last thing you would expect is to be fired the day of. Literally moments after awarding the player you coached for his success on the field. The coaches are there with their families, it's a happy time. Why not wait until the next day?

Better then, than your boss telling you the night before he wants to see you in his office at 8am sharp.

People get fired every day. It happens. Hopefully he saved his money while employed and lands on his feet somewhere.

I'm sure if he would have waited until the next day Z would have no hard feelings.

Before breakfast or after?

Over lunch?

How about a goodbye dinner?

Point made, he would've have hard feelings. For me though timing wouldn't have been an issue.

If you read Zebrowsk's quote it is obvious that the timing of the firing was not nearly as big an issue for him as the way Claeys did it:

"All of a sudden an hour and half later, you get a quick (conversation with Claeys ‘I know it’s bad timing, but we’re not going to renew your contract.’

‘Was it something I did?’

‘No. Just want to go in a different direction.’

‘Did the quarterbacks not play well enough?’

‘No, they played really good."

Zebrowski appears to have considered Claeys to be a friend who he has known and worked with for a long time. After all those years together all he got from Claeys was a quick goodbye and a boot out the door. Apparently, there was little or no message of thanks and appreciation to Zebrowski for all of the hard work he put in over the years. Other than to say that he wants to go in a different direction, Claeys gave Zebrowski almost no explanation for the firing. Zebrowski can only guess at the actual reason. I say it again. Only a jerk would fire a long time colleague in that manner.

I think some people are reading way too much into just a few comments.

EVERYONE, I repeat, EVERYONE knew the offensive was a major weakness on the team. It was obvious that changes needed to be made and Claeys made the them as soon as possible. There was no reason to delay, and by acting quickly he gave the affected coaches more time to find new jobs and gave himself access to more coaches before they all found jobs.

As for the discussion, it is common to use the "need to go another direction" expression when you have a difference in vision or so many issues that you don't want to do into every detail. It is more polite than going into a heated criticism session. As for Zeb, who knows what offers he had. Sounds like he wanted to stay local and that obviously limits your opportunities.

My theory was that Claeys had more issues with how Limey was handling the offense/OL and Zeb had to go because the next OC would also be the QB coach.

That's a hell of an aggressive stance to take after hearing 1 side of 1 person's story.

There is no good answer to Zebrowskis questions. He wants an OC/QB coach and Z was not that guy. Claeys has a limited window to produce, he's a first time HC. He has to do everything he thinks is best right away. He won't have a second chance. Zs answers would be understandable 5 months ago. He should understand and be over it by now.
Also funny that he's playing the loyalty card while he blames Kill for the offense.

Yep. My post was a /s post. Be realistic tho, Z isn't really mad about when or how TC did it; he is mad that TC did it.

Weren't you taught that there are always two sides to a story. Taking a disgruntled former employees word as gospel truth is a mistake.

Spoofy, you're crushing it in this thread. +1.

As far as the loyalty thing, Z was only on staff for 6 seasons before getting the axe. Not a newbie, but not old college buddies either.

Exactly. That interview wouldn't have read any different had he been fired the next day. Nor would it have read any different had Claeys said the QBs played poorly, or that it WAS something you did. Z wants Claeys to give him something he can fight about and get angry about, and Claeys didn't do it. This is how you handle a dismissal.

I think a simple gift basket would have gone a long way had Claeys just presented Z with one at the awards banquet.

Limey should've been fired years ago.

I called for it after only the first few games.

It was so obvious he was not B10 material in the booth.

Sorry to sound harsh.

you sayin it was the Xs and Os and not the Jimmies and Joes? but yeah, if Lime was accountable for a subpar QB staff then yeah...Lime had to go.

You only say this because you want it to be true to defend your position. In reality, you don't have a clue.

Let's say Tracy has some superpower where he gets one more win a year that he wouldn't otherwise get by firing a guy in a less than polite fashion?

Would you want him getting that extra win?

For Kill continuity of staff was a selling point for fans and recruits. I think the loyalty piece of that seemed to be a big part of his identity and made it harder for him to let anyone go. He was loyal to a fault. A culture where loyalty is valued over performance can only go so far as at some point it allows for complacency.

Even though Clayes was part of that culture, he seems a bit more pragmatic than Kill and his actions as head coach reflect an awareness that he has a great opportunity and that he that he has no time to waste.
