The games is on the line, your best player is amped up and says “I got this and let’s go!” And you say “nope, I’m the coach, you sit down, PUNT!”

I don’t know…it turned out OK, Nebraska was able to get 2 huge passes on us in their last drive…

I’d let Mo and Offense to secure that half a yard at our own 30 yard line….what you’d say?

If he would have gone for it and got stuffed and then lost the game, we would have savaged him. I think PJ is generally too conservative (except when he goes for it on our own 29), but with a one score lead and how well our defense played, I think punting is pretty much a no brainer. Fleck got that one right.

You can play to win - or you can play not to lose. Fleck plays not to lose. Today it worked out. But Neb was 1 pass and a 2-pt conversion away from winning that game.

Fine with the call. Refs showed on that 3rd down they were willing to screw the Gophs on spotting the ball in favor of Nebraska. No way after that I’d feel comfortable with impartiality- like a 1 yard run suddenly turning into a no gain. The D was playing well and did their job.

A first down would have ended it, but getting stopped on fourth down wouldn't have changed that we were a pass and a 2-pt conversion away from losing, and Nebraska would have been 40 yards closer.

I would’ve gone for it but punting to a bad offense when the strength of the team is your defense in a 90 yard field worked

There is no I in Mo

I understand punting there but don’t like it.

the overturn was suspicious
The call to punt was outrageous
Just hear PJ on rhe radio say that disagreement amongst the staff about what play to run caused him to lean into the punt.
That's a good call I think. Nebraska had stuffed Mo behind the line of scrimmage multiple times in the game, so for the offensive staff to be split on what play to run to make sure you get that half a yard means you should punt.

1 pass? I guess in theory. On the field? No they weren't.

If you want to play that game if we had gone for it; we were one missed block from Mo getting stuffed. It's not like we didn't have some running plays for a loss.

I am fine with the punt. It was the Bud Grant call. Our defense was playing well. It is very possible to fail on fourth and one. Very possible. It happens a lot. So question is which call—go for it or punt—has the greater DOWNSIDE? The punt, which in a short field will be a fair catch, has a very small downside (90 yard march under two minutes with no time outs) compared to potentially giving Nebraska the ball at midfield. I think the punt is the intelligent play TO WIN. Maybe not as dramatic or chest-thumping, but more intelligent.

Are you opposed to PJ running off the clock with victory formation plays in the last 70 seconds? Is that playing not to lose? I think it is playing the odds to win.

And that’s what Fleck did.

Remember Mo had all ready been stuffed a few times today, and the refs seemed to be slightly biased towards Nebbie.

Below average offensive line. Have been stuffed in same situation multiple times this year. Punt is smart play.

At first I hated it. Hindsight is 20/20 so we all have that going for us.

Looking back, I like t now as they were going to put 9 in the box and jump the snap. Even Mo would have had a tough time. Make them go 80 yards was the right call..

I would’ve direct snapped it to Mo with no QB on the field. But like fleck said postgame, he’d rather have Nebraska go 90 yards than 40.

We blame Fleck for being aggressive in our own territory on 4th down vs Bowling Green and Purdue when it backfired. Well he went the other way this time and it worked. It was a very tough call and the call he made resulted in a win. He deserves credit IMO.

I get why they punted and agree it was the right choice. Still don’t like it.
