Yahoo: Sources: Arkansas to hire Bret Bielema!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't know if I'm happy or sad. He seemed like such a putz, I can't believe he kept winning there. But he did. Wisconsin HAS to be able to get someone better, don't they? They won't get Peterson, but I can see Patterson, and, holy crap, he's twice the coach Bielema is.

Don't worry about Patterson. He's not going to Becky. He's turned down good job after good job. Why? The word is he's at the top of the list to replace Mack Brown at Texas, probably sooner rather than later. And to be honest, TCU in the Big 12 is a better job than Wisconsin right now.

Patterson just signed an extension/pay raise with TCU as well.

Gregg Doyel ‏@GreggDoyelCBS As @JMLIS notes, Bielema in February: “We at the Big Ten don't want to be like the SEC - in any way, shape or form"

LOL

It will be interesting to see how many coaches follow him...
(Maybe go for two)

Yep. He will be at Texas sooner than later.

Keelon Brookins? Hey this is Jerry Kill, how is your Tuesday going so far?

Meh. 2 major knee injuries. Plus he already showed his true colors. I'd rather Kill look elsewhere.

Yes, I misread an earlier post about Patterson. But I do think Bucky is in a position to get a damn good coach.

TCU is a better job than Wisconsin? Now I can agree with waiting for Texas, but I dont think that TCU is much better, if at all.

I love it when people over analyze things to sound smart. Just the opposite happens.

BB is going from college football being a sport to Hog football being a religion.
if he's not the next saban, the meddling boosters will run him out, and shoot his horse, after posting his cell phone records on the net
Nutt was a native Son, had the second best coaching record (to Broyles), and boosters gave him no regard
coaching the Hogs is touching the third rail

Are you responding to me? I didn't say that. Let me remove Gary Patterson from all of this.

My original point was that I kept expecting Bucky to go into the toilet with Bielema, and it never happened. But now I fear they will get an even better coach who will keep them on an upward trajectory.

I think whoever said he wants to get out from under Barry (not literally) is correct. My view is that Bret doesn't think he gets enough credit for what he does at UW.

Pfftt...
So Arkansas stays a dumpster fire.
Big whoop.
Next...

They are probably throwing a crap load of money at him and he probbably feels Bucky has reached their ceiling.

I personally don't understand the decision. I hate saying it but he has a good thing going over there so why leave?

I quoted wrong post. My apologies...

Lose-Lose for both schools, IMO. Bielema did a good job inheriting a solid team but doesn't have experience building a program. Wisconsin, for the first time in decades, doesn't have the stability that's been the foundation of their success, unless they can get Chryst or Doreen. I'm sure the Badgers will get a great coach, but it probably won't be a "Wisconsin Man".

You guys just don't get it! It is not the money. He just doesn't think he can win a National Championship at Wisconsin and didn't want to come back to TCF next year and see all those championships on the wall again.

The lose on the schools part will depend a lot on who they hire...as for BB, I think this is not just about the money, but maybe he felt he had gotten Wisky as far as he could, got bored and wanted a fresh challenge...IOW his ego...Agree for him it has the makings of being a losing proposition.

Pure speculation but I don't think he and Alvarez get along too well.

I don't know about that. Burt screwed co-eds, and Barry got a cheerleader pregnant. And they are both boozers. Hell, if they didn't wear wisky red, I'd probably hang out with them.

Perhaps I should have said better job for Patterson, though I'm not sure that qualification is necessary. TCU has a solid home now in a conference that is better than the Big 10(at least for now) and is located in the most fertile recruiting ground in the country. Wisky looks like a program starting to backslide in a down conference that when it rebounds will do so with the rise of OSU and Michigan once again to the top of the league. Wins are going to be harder to come by for Wisky. Patterson has coached only in the south. TCU is a better job for him than Wisky.

You do have to assume that, with the same guy running the hiring process, they'll find the same caliber of coach they found with BB. And that's the way I want it. If the Gophs can only overcome the Badgers if they happen to slip, that'll be a lot less sweet.

As far as Bret goes, we'll see - as Nokomis posted - whether he can elevate a relative also-ran. You have to think that, beyond the big money, this is about taking on a new and different kind of challenge.

I hate Bielema but it is pretty sad that an SEC program that is historically between 3-5 in their division (put them behind Bama, LSU but along side Auburn, Texas A&M) is viewed as a better location than the school that won the Big Ten 3 years in a row.

huh? won the big ten title game 2 of those 3 years. they did not "win" the big ten all 3 years and were not even the best team in each of those 3 years. in fact, i believe michigan state beat them head to head in 2010, had the same record and got screwed over on a conference rule technicality. this year, they backed into the big ten championship game due to the idiots at ohio state and penn state not having any morals. the only year i will grant that they won the big ten in a legitimate fashion and not through some technicality was in 2011.
