Yahoo: Sources: Arkansas to hire Bret Bielema!!!!!!!!!!!!

Arkansas is giving him bookoo money, no way he leaves Madison for a modest pay raise to start playing in the toughest division in FBS.

Color me surprised, Alvarez must think he has someone just a phone call away to take over otherwise he might feel like he wants to get back into coaching at Wisky. I can't see him caving on bumping up Bielema's pay to keep the first coach to win them 3 straight B1G titles.

Sucks for Wisconsin, wonder how much of his staff he's taking with him.

What scandal is about to break out of mad town? That would be the only reason you would leave UW for Arkansas. Will Barry come back?

There aren't many non-SEC jobs that are better than a majority of the SEC jobs. Arkansas has money, facilities, football resources, strong recruiting in the region.

the mrs probably didn't like seeing all of his old flings around town. needed a change of scenery

Perhaps someone in Arkansas heard "3 straight Rose Bowls" but failed to notice that the Badgers backed into it this year with a 8-5 record, and a crappy B1G. Not to mention Bielema had terrible clock management and in game decisions during the first two Rose Bowl appearances, thus resulting in losses to Oregon and a "little sister of the poor."

Ok, yeah, it was probably just a crap load of money and the ability to coach in the SEC. Next step, how to get rid of Bo Ryan.......

someone on the badger board said they were offering 6 mil to peterson and patterson. beilema has to be pushing 5 mil a year.

All of that is simply laughable nonsense.

EDIT: Are you talking about Arkansas? That would make sense, though I still think those figures are a gross exaggeration. On initial reading, I thought your comment meant that Becky fans were saying that about Dolly Madison.

Mixed emotions here...I wanted the Wisky demise to occur with him at the helm...but I am tired of waiting. I hope they do not get Chryst.

does anyone think sanctions could be a possibility?

He's got no quarterback and when Ball leaves who's going to step into his shoes? Go to greener pastures while they're available I guess.

Anyone know where Bielema's new bride is from? Is she a Southerner?

I don't know if I'm happy or sad. He seemed like such a putz, I can't believe he kept winning there. But he did. Wisconsin HAS to be able to get someone better, don't they? They won't get Peterson, but I can see Patterson, and, holy crap, he's twice the coach Bielema is.

Great news, so glad to see that dbag out of the conference.

It appears that in a strange turn of events someone has cooled on Wisconsin. For the record:

Bielema cooled on Wisconsin.

There are no "middle of the road" people down here on this hire.

They are either very happy or super pissed calling for Jeff Long's head.

I'm not in the later.
I think it's a good hire since we were turned down by Patterson and Petersen. (And Les Miles)

All of that is simply laughable nonsense.

i meant arkansas was offering that.

I'm no Badger fan, but they are going to be fine next season. Some plugging to do in the defensive backfield, but I don't think there will be much of a drop-off from Ball/White to White/Gordon. Question mark at QB, but I thought Stave did well when he was in there.

Keelon Brookins? Hey this is Jerry Kill, how is your Tuesday going so far?

My wife's team is Arkansas and I like them, but have told her I can't be in 100% because they hire D-bags for coaches. This will not help.

I think he is leaving because of Money and to get out from Barry's shaddow. Badger fans still give a lot and possibly too much credit to Barry Alvarez for their success. Wisconsin was middle of the road when Barry stepped aside and six years removed from his last Rose Bowl.

Both of the coeds he was successful in htting on in Madison must have left town.

Speaking of greener pastures, he saw when Urban did at Ohio State already and wanted no part of that the next 10+ years...

From Football scoop tweet: "At Arkansas, several agents & coaches felt that Bo Pelini had the job…and then Wisconsin rolled them Saturday night & now Bielema 2 Ark. wow"

I guess Pelini got "Masoned"

Agree. Despite BB's personality, there is no doubt he's a great coach. It goes without saying if anyone can have the kind of success he's had in Madison.

From Rittenberg at ESPN:

In the most stunning coaching move of the silly season, Arkansas has hired Wisconsin's Bret Bielema as its next head coach, sources tell ESPN.

Colleague Mark Schlabach reports that Bielema still wants to coach the Badgers in their upcoming Rose Bowl appearance against Stanford. Wisconsin won its third consecutive Big Ten championship on Saturday night and will play in Pasadena for the third straight season.

Bielema is 68-24 in seven seasons at Wisconsin. He was Barry Alvarez's hand-picked successor. Alvarez now serves as the Badgers' athletic director.

Much, much more to come on this surprising move.

Now THAT'S funny!! :drink:
