Wisconsin OT Luke Rasmussen commits to Gophers!!!!!!!!!

Very smart kid. However, his offer list isn't very impressive and the kid is only a 2-star. If we land Ragnow, to go along with Mayes, the kid will likely end up being a 4 yr backup OL here. Every team needs reserves though!

Like Bak, Bush, Christenson and Lauer?

BF East and Central both have really good programs and produce Div. 1. players. Joe Thomas is one example. Last year each produced four star players who ended up at UW.

This may mean the Badgers have landed another OL on their list as Rasmussen was thought to be a plan B guy. Rumor was he was waiting for a Badger offer. And another possibility is he got tired of waiting.

These OL need to put in the work, but a kid with this size can end up being as good as anyone. Gophers have a couple WI kids who start on the OL now. Good players.

Really? I doubt WI was really looking at him as a Plan B. He's only a 2 star and they generally have little worries about recruiting highly ranked lineman. But you are probably correct about Rasmussen waiting for a Badgers offer. As my guess is that they were never even contemplating that move...

This kid is similar to Lauer: lightly recruited and gets a Gopher offer late and jumps on it.

Lauer just started 7-8 games as a redshirt freshman. His much more highly recruited counterpart, Mr. Pirsig, started none.

FYI, Pirsig was coming off of an ACL tear.

You are reading way more into the ranking systems than should you should. Out of Wisconsin's 25 2014 verbal commits 6 are 2 stars. Two of them are OLs. Therefore, since you have neither knowledge or access to facts I would say that qualifies you as a "Gopher Hole Expert."

Deep breaths Killroy. Deep breaths. Never said or insinuated I had access to facts. Just stated "my guess" is that they were probably not even contemplating offering him...

Wisconsin just received two commitments from 2-star OL in the past few weeks. And both of them had less impressive other offers than Rasmussen according to Rivals.

The guy looks like he has good footwork. Some guys just fly under the radar. Different position, but look at nate Andrews. Kill found him long before anyone. Now hes a key guy at FLA ST

And according to ESPN the Badgers have two 3 star and one 4 star OT commits, and Rasmussen was non ranked. We can all pick our facts to argue.

You may want to check this link which shows that two of Wisconsin's 2014 OL verbals have two stars. The point I was trying to make is that the fact he received only 2 stars does mean that Wisconsin wasn't interested in him. The second point was that recruiting systems have limited value.

This may be the most ridiculous statement I've ever read on GopherHole. It's as if you just came to planet Earth for the first time and have never observed how life actually works. How many examples does a human being need to see before he realizes that predictions like this are foolish?

Welcome Luke! We're excited for you to wear the maroon and gold!

Ski-U-Mah and Go Gophers!

If this was the most ridiculous comment you've ever read, you've probably never been on Gopherhole before. Stop overreacting, and come back down to earth.

Looks like he can snap too... Love that he was the 1st one down the field on punt coverage, pretty fast for a dude that size
Special teams... check, offense... check, defense... check, good grades, well we get the idea. It has been really fun watching the kids that this staff brings in and puts into their system. Good luck to all of you and Go Gophers!

Not the most ridiculous thing I've ever read, but Kill doesn't care about stars. Rasmussen camped at Minnesota so the staff had the opportunity to watch him, work with him and get to know him. They want him on the team, that's good enough for me.

Yeah, and all the dumb ones fall right in line.

I guess it probably went over your head but that was my point. I was responding to the comment that smart kids are easier to coach. Not true. Smart or "dumb" it's just not that simplistic.

He didn't really pick his facts to argue. You made a statement that WI doesn't recruit 2 star OL, he showed that WI did. I get that you chose a different service as your point of reference, but they are all subjective. You're the one making bold statements, next time maybe make caveat that people aren't allowed to reference the most popular ranking website to refute your claim.

You need to go back and re-read what you originally said.

I just showed two examples that Wisconsin does look at and offer scholarships to 2-star offensive lineman, thus disproving what you just said. Never said anything about the high end recruits.

Another commitment thread that's become a pissing match about number of stars. Apparently Kill and his staff still hasn't earned the respect from some fans for their ability to identify talent. With the way this program is being built and the progress we've seen, I'm excited about every player that commits. Welcome Luke!

Hard to project a players impact before they get here. It's possible that the coaches saw something that works. Especially with these smart kids (looks like we got a 28 and 33 ACT recruit in the past 24 hours), they may be easier to teach the game to. Technique can be taught.

Encouraging to see ACT scores being discussed.

Agree. look at what this staff has done with what they have recruited.

Another Rasmussen to Minnesota. This continues a long tradition of the sir name.

Very fair statement. I trust Kill and staff to make those recruiting decisions!

Maybe Kill & staff don't realize that it is stars and other offers that matter most /s
