11 days between games was part of the problem...Tubby's stub-(stubberness)stituion patterns was the other. The starters never got into a rhythm and frankly, its the worst we've looked since the Stanford game. Very ugly offensive performance tonight. Shot a poor % from distance, and the only reason our final FG % wound up being 41% is because we had about 10 offensive rebound putbacks from point blank range. I think we shot about 25% on actual shots.

* I'm concerned that we won't have the luxury of out-rebounding MSU by 18 on New Year's Eve. We're gonna actually have to hit some shots.

* If Austin had a strained groin and it was bad enough for Tubby to tell the guys on the BTN broadcast, then why the HELL was he playing at all? That's not the kind of injury you just play through...Very dumb move by Tubby! It was also the worst he's looked all season.

* For being a so-called Sharp-Shooter, how does Oto shoot so many bricks? Yes, he knocked down 1 of 3 tonight from beyond the arc, but his 2 misses were AWFUL and not even close. I don't see him being the answer to our lack of 3 point shooting and I'm concerned that his 10 point performance will only serve to waste more time on him.

* Rodney and Mbakwe looked hesitant and awkward everytime they had the ball. Neither of them seem ready for MSU.

* FT shooting has dipped of late (14-25 tonight) and it makes no sense to me how we can be regressing during the season.

* Andre doesn't get enough dribble penetration into the paint. Watching Pressey for Missouri or Jackson from Baylor last night or any of the KU guards, I found myself envious. If Andre could get some penetration think of all the dish and dunks Rodney and Mbakwe could have. I'm afriad our offense will simply give the ball away too often without getting shots up on the iron to take advantage of our offensive rebounding. I'm also afraid we'll be closer to a bubble team than top 4 seed.

* I'm afriad Welch and Ahanmisi are going to be in over their heads come conference time and our self-perceived depth is really just a mirage. Just because Tubby plays them a ton in non-conference games doesn't mean their any good. To win, we'll have to rely on the 5 starters to play 30-Plus minutes.

* I come away from this game thinking we'll lose to MSU and open the Big season 1-3. This was a terrible performance by everybody that somehow came away looking great because we out-rebounded an inferior opponent 40-22. This will not suffice on New Year's Eve. We'll have to shoot 50% and be much more careful with the ball to stay close. They beat a good Texas team today and I came away very impressed with Nix and Dawson. Tubby has a ton of work to do over these next 9 days to get them ready.

Merry Christmas cheer to you too, Moses. :)

I'd hate to be your kid and bring home a B+ in advanced stats class.

Go Gophers!!

Tonight was like watching an advanced placement student beat his chest for acing a pop quiz in the special ed classroom. I was not impressed at all. No flow, no rhythm and no continuity thanks to Tubby.

I run a lot of races. You want your last couple of workouts before a race to be crappy. I've never run a good race if I kicked ass in the workouts right before race day.

If a 25 point win where your starters hardly matter is "ugly", I will gladly take that every day of the week and twice on Sunday.

The good news is MSU has looked horrible all year.

Ignoring the rest of your comically negative post, what in the world makes you think Texas is a good team?

I watched Texas blow the doors off UNC about 3 days ago.

Watching MSU's trio of big men go for 44 and 28 today makes me worry that we'll have our hands full. We'll have to shoot over 50% to have a chance.

Mich st will need to shoot over 50% to have a chance against us

This is exactly why we need the BarnYard full of boisterous, drunk students to intimidate the hell out of Sparty, from the opening tip on, so they are so panic stricken that they shoot about 17%.

UNC also isn't very good. Take a look at how Texas has done against other teams and I bet you'll be less impressed. I feel good about our chances against MSU.

We essentially dominated a game with back ups and people are irritated?????? We've sucked for too long to have thast attitude. This is a good team that could be great. There is no doubt IMO that this a sweet 16 team that could do something. This is awesome IMO.

I think Moses just found commandments 11 and 12, and he's starting to worry.

Nix only averages 7 a game.I highly doubt he will go for 25 again.

Although I am in agreement that MN may not be a top 10-15 team, drawing all of these conclusions from a nothing game against a team of scrubs where the starters played about 1/2 the game is a bit extreme, IMO. I agree that Texas is not a real good team as well, but better than Lafeyette. MN will have to shoot better to beat MSU, that is for sure...

I think you should wait and see how we play against Michigan State before you climb out onto the ledge. A non-conference game against an inferior opponent with a losing record has “garbage” game written all over it. Players don’t get hyped up for the Lafayettes of college basketball. And the bench players played more minutes than most of the starters. Tubby can talk depth all he wants but in tough, tight games we’ve seen him play the starters 30-35 minutes or more and most of the bench guys only 5-8 minutes at best.

“FT shooting has dipped of late (14-25 tonight) and it makes no sense to me how we can be regressing during the season.”

Last five games before tonight: NDSU 17-22 (77.3%) USC 19-27 (70.4%) SDSU 12-20 (60.0%) NF 20-26 (76.9%) FSU 19-25 (76.0%)

I wouldn’t exactly call this a regression. Plus, the team is going to shoot a worse percentage some games when terrible shooters like Ingram and Halverson (a.k.a. the human victory cigar) are getting to the line. The only one that actually concerns me a little is Andre Hollins. How does he go from “can’t miss” 90% to low 70’s? We need his shooting from last year to ice tight games from the line.

The Big Ten season can’t come soon enough. Remember, other teams have obvious flaws too.

I think Moses just found commandments 11 and 12, and he starting to worry.

He struggled carrying the stones that contained commandments 1-10, for crying out loud. Don't lay more on Moses than he can handle.

How about you take a step back and look at the team from an overall standpoint. They have dominated every team they need to, and competed in the ones that were more tough. They are ready for MSU and should hold their own in big ten play. No need to judge the entire big ten season from one lousy non-conference game.

I agree. Let's all hope they come out and put on a good showing for all the people who think they can't do it and get a big win!

Michigan state doesn't have many sharp shooters either. You say we need to shoot 50% to win?! Damn, if we shoot 50% we will win by double digits almost every single game. Too many negatives in the thread, relax.

If one of the starters would have gotten hurt beating up on Lafayette it would have been unforgivable. This is precisely the type of game you let Coleman, Mav, Welch, Oto, Mo. Ingram & Wally get some seasoning & build confidence. What's gained if Trevor grabs 20 rebounds tonight? If Dre scores 41? If Austin holds their top guard to 5pts? If Rodney dunks 14 times on them? None of those things are going to help us be any better in B1G play.

What may help win some B1G games is Coleman & Welch being given the green light to make mistakes, shine & ultimately win this game (and we will need them to do that this year). Other things that should help in conference play...Oto regains some swagger, Mo shakes off some rust/gets into playing shape, Ingram shines in his role, Mav gains confidence at the point & Wally shows us a taste of what he can do.

This has got to be one of the worst post game synopses I have ever read. We certainly didn't play a great game (and probably one of our worst) but that's going to happen from time to time, especially after such a long layover. I would much rather have a game like this now and win by 25 then have it later in the season and lose. How can you possibly be this negative about a 25 point win in which the second half was played almost exclusively by reserves? Also, your view on Texas is laughable, they lost to Chaminade and USC for crying out loud. I would say that Michigan State's close game with them was more of a negative sign for them than a positive one. I'm still fairly apprehensive about the game vs. the Spartans, but more so because we seem to always struggle against them and Izzo is one heck of a coach. You may be right that this team is overrated and will struggle during the conference schedule (although I think we will do quite well and finish in 3rd-5th place) but to come to that conclusion based solely on this game is inappropriate.

What's lost is that we enter into the Big Ten Season like the Packers entered into the Playoffs last year...Rusty and untested for 20-some days. No continuity or rhythm. Our two most experienced players looked lost tonight. Andre made sloppy passes and was off on his shot...We need those guys clicking and I'm afraid we won't be able to "flick a switch" when the season starts.

Maybe all you guys are right and there's nothing to worry about...Forgive me if I don't join you in the love-fest after bludgening the 289th best team in college hoops.

Sparty will be different, the boys will get up for that one, both teams have nine days off, barn will be ready to rock. As for Texas, USC and Chaminade beat them, and on another note how is Chaminade not a DII power, they get plenty of exposure from the Maui invite

First 5 minutes were horrible, after that they played decently, after USC I'm not sure the games have told us much about this team, find out in a week though.
