McCarthy for Kirk and Turner for Hunter.

I guess they did what they felt they had to do.

We gave up our 3rd and 4th next year.

Damn, we sure don't have a ton of picks going forward.

Vikings traded 23, 167, 2025 3rd and 4th

“Culpepper played with HOFers”.

“He didn’t the year he finished 2nd in the MVP”

“Well he didn’t win the Super Bowl!!!!!”

I never said he did. But he was very good.
They finished …. 8-8, 2nd in the division, lost in the divisional round.

That’s your bar for judging success of drafting McCarthy? Good lord

That sounds like future Kwesi's problem.

Besides, Sam Darnold off a play-off appearance ought to net a 2nd rounder.

Banking on getting compensatory picks?

Getting a pick on that round from the Falcons?

A from The Athletic

10. Minnesota Vikings (from NYJ): J.J. McCarthy, QB, Michigan

What an offseason for the Vikings. After making a big pre-draft move, Minnesota was able to land a quarterback (and climb one spot) without surrendering its other first-round pick. (The Vikings sent Nos. 11, 129 and 157 to the Jets for this spot and No. 203.) All this mere months after Minnesota lost Cousins, its previous franchise QB.

McCarthy’s skill set has had NFL evaluators on alert for three years, though his work inside Michigan’s run-heavy offense made it very difficult to totally project what he’ll be immediately in the NFL. A very tough, aggressive passer in the mold of his former coach (Harbaugh), McCarthy’s an unquestioned winner (63-3 record since high school).

He may need to learn behind Sam Darnold for a minute, but this is a great long-term fit with Kevin O’Connell — and he could be more ready early on than some believe.

Grade: A

They are drafting like a team that doesn't feel like they are far from being good. Going for a few high quality guys. Nice!

They're really not. And giving up middle round picks does not bother me with how much cap space they will have next year. They can easily fill gaps in free agency.

^^^^^. Something is weird about this!

We arguably got a top 4 QB and the top defensive player in the draft. Round 1 A+++++++++
We did give up a lot though, in 2025 we only have one 1st round pick and two 5th round picks. That's it. Free agency works, but getting some late-round picks that contribute on the field really helps with the salary cap, especially ours as we'll have to pay a lot to keep JJ.

They'll gain compensatory picks. DE is the 2nd most important position in the NFL. If you can get one of his quality, then you do it.

supposedly on the trade value chart, the trade to move up to #17 comes out pretty even for both teams.

Vikings / Jaguars trade evaluation:
MIN gets: 17 - 260 pts on trade chart
JAX gets: 23, 167, '25 RD3, '25 RD4 - 268 pts

We have a QB on a rookie deal and we can pay Jefferson and Darrisaw and still have a ton in cap space. We are still getting younger and younger overall.

Go back and look at our middle round pick history. It's terrible. If JJ and Turner turn out to be studs, then they gave up nothing.
