Where are the Leidner haters?

I sure learned my lesson. I sure hope my statement didn't cause the turn around

The lesson being that you can never EVER put your faith in Mitch Leidner to not be completely and utterly incompetent.

Right Here! He's a ****ing joke! So glad he's gone after this season. How he can play so well the 1st half and then look like total **** is beyond me. I really wish they would let us swear on here. You can't call a spade a spade without being censored. I'm just really annoyed and glad I don't have to see or hear about Leidner after this season.

Your support of the program is meaningful. Nobody has that much power that they alone are a jinx. To many unforced errors by multiple players, and Wisconsin defensive line started whipping our O-line up front. I felt like Leidner would play really well today, even convinced myself he would be good Mitch and refuse to turn the football over by making a forced error. I was wrong, this QB never developed the ability to not force bad plays. Sadly I wanted this win for Mitch as much as anybody because of all of the criticism but it was just not meant to be. The mental fortitude to not make a mistake was never there, some guy's just don't value the football enough and believe they are better players than they really are. That was always the case with Leidner as Gophers QB, he always forced things and tried to do to much. It is the staff's fault nobody better was ever developed to play QB. The fact they never played anyone during the non-conference season bugged me. This team needs to develop the mentality that young guys need game experience to move the program forward, even at QB.

You're mad you can't swear? Are you 14?

Well there you have it. If that game wasn't the epitome of the Mitch Leidner years for the University of Minnesota, I don't know what is. I watched the Gophers play one of the best halves in recent memory and then follow it up with one of the worst halves I have seen them play in recent memory and that is saying something. We also witnessed the importance and weight of the quarterback position in this offense. There is no way the Badgers should ever win that game after the first half, all you needed was a quarterback to manage the game and at worst flip field position.

Mitch Leidner can not manage a game. He has proven this time and time again. The stage was, again, too big for him. That absolutely needless throw into the endzone in the 3rd proved what we have all known, and was the beginning of the tailspin today. He should have taken that near pick on the throw three plays earlier as a warning sign. But that is not what Mitch Leidner is he doesn't adapt midgame. I don't what the story was with that 2nd pick but the 3rd pick was another example. He tries to force balls into places they just won't go. I will give it to the kid thinking he can make those throws, but someone has to have told him at this point that you will not be playing if you keep trying that dumb ****.

It is sad the team by and large did enough to win and the running game was as solid as ever, especially with the momentum in the first half. Same with the defense but you can't expect the defense to keep making stands when you are throwing the ball around without a care in the world. It sucks, because as a dude I think Leidner seems like a good kid and wants more than anything to win and especially against Wisky and get, what must feel like a gorilla, off his back, but he just never was the quarterback to win these types of games and that partially falls on Kill and Claeys. Last year, they should have rode Croft out a couple more times and this year there should have been an actual qb competition instead of crowning someone who has never won that next game and for a lot of the last 2 seasons looked stuck in the mud.

I am just pissed, I am sick of losing to the skunks. Especially a game like today where I think even the most diehard Badger fan will feel like they were handed the game.

With that being said I can't possibly think of a more fitting end to one of the strangest qb legacies in University of Minnesota history.
In an entire decade, three coaches have failed to recruit and develop a decent passing QB.

Not your fault. We just can't seem to land and develop good passing QBs here. So we rely on defense and the running game and lose the big ones.

Just watched the replay of the game. I knew the result before I watched and didn't have to deal with "anger management." Truly unbelievable the difference between the play in the first half to the second half. Just kept watching the plays in disbelief going "Wow" and not in a good way. I will still keep rooting for the Gophers. Glass is still half full for me. Hopefully we get better Qb play next year and the defense stays solid.

Would like to know what's in that glass? Can you share some of it since multiple beers doesn't seem to be doing the trick for me.

no hate

I hate no one, least of all a kid like Mitch. What displeases me is the ADULTS that put a kid like Mitch in a position to fail. The coaching staff lacked the intuition to recognize Mitch's inability to lead and perform under pressure. Unfortunately Mitch will go down in U of M history as one who could not handle the big stage and that's not entirely his fault. I pray that Mitch's future as a person is not ruined by the coaches who set him up to publicly fail so badly. Mitch, I'm sure is a gifted human being, just not the big 10 quarterback his deluded coaches wanted him to be.

Have a hard time remembering when I enjoyed a half of a game as much as I enjoyed this first half. We played great even with a few drops. I see a lot of things in place that could make this team a contender. If we have competent QB play all year we are at least glass 3/4 full this season. But without good QB play I will still have what's ever on sale in my half full glass.

Mitch has heart, but I've had a few observations......

First, I took a few minutes to watch some footage of him from 2014, and its very apparent that he has regressed this season. He's
nowhere near what he was that season. I cannot account for that other than he's been more concerned about getting injured. Its
possible he badly overplayed all the NFL draft hype in his mind and it got the better of him. In the first half he was assertive and
physically, and it opened other things up. In the second half it was like a different qb. He was tentative and ended up forcing things.

He never seemed comfortable this season. Maybe it was the new OC, maybe not. If the qb isn't comfortable its very hard for others
around him to be confident. Just as an observer, I never felt comfortable with him even getting the snap. That's highly unusual for a qb of his experience. Maybe the Iowa injury played into this, idk.

I do believe that the coaches are building this team for the future. They were gonna go as far as Mitch could take them without having to yank the RS of Croft or Green. I think they're very excited about those two, and if there are more Cashmans and the like embedded in this program, I can see that. If that's the case, that they went into this season as a building year with Mitch carrying the water to buy time for the others, than 8-4 is not the worst result.

Once we get our bowl match-up, everyone's attention will be on that. If the Gophers can beat Georgia or Tennessee in Nashville, or something like that, I think people will start to feel a little better. 9-4 would be nice.

Dear wait what you were correct.

Leidner is a bad qb. you saw it clearly while everyone else continued to dose up on Hopium. 'Oh, he is set for a great junior...senior year....' how the f did this ever happen to minny? damn jerry kill and his ego.

The liquor flows strong in this one.

Hardly anyone (or literally no one) said any of these things. Nice straw man, though.

You have a short memory then. Heck, just go back to what people were saying when ESPN came out on ML.

siding with you on this one, you don't often lose these debates.

I would estimate about 75% of my posts the last 3 years have been regarding ML and you will see defender after defender - not just the current company line of "well, he sucks but he is the best we have" - but the absolutely delusional postings about ML being a top B1G QB. I am not really interested in going through archives to win an internet battle - anyone that has read these forums for more than the last 5 weeks will remember the pro-ML statements. This performance today should finally put this argument to bed.

Csom is partially right. Multiple arguments about where Mitch is in the Big Ten hierarchy of QBs, the QBR, etc.

I don't know if anyone was saying he was a top 3 Big Ten QB but seems to remember a few buying McShays's load when that came out. I think that news probably made many reassess what they were thinking about Mitch. It made them wonder what they were missing that a so-called expert wasn't.. Problem was, McShay had never broken down Motch's tape.

I will admit there was a point when I thought Mitch was in the top half of the BT. The last month or so, there may have been 2 or 3 I'd chose Mitch over. It just didn't seem like this offensive system ever suited Mitch's skillset.

The question will always be whether any better options existed or could have existed. This staff and a segment of our fans wanted Mitch to be good and confused that with whether he was actually good. Looking back there was never really anything to support that Mitch was even an average QB.

If he was always the only option and there was never any option to accept a transfer or start anyone else, I guess it doesn't matter, but that question will always nag in my mind.

Some of the posters will tell you Mitch led us to 8 wins a couple of years, but what could we have been without him. Some of the best RB's and D we have seen in that last 3 years and it appears we might have won in spite of Mitch.

It isn't an argument anyone has made. It's a fiction invented in your head. This forum has a very robust and easy-to-use search feature. Utilize it and find us some (serious, non-snarky, non-joking) posts advancing the notion that Leidner is a "top Big Ten QB". They should be easy to find, since there are so many.
