He has the best winning percentage for coaches in the history of the Big 10. He has coached for almost 10 years. I would think that qualifies him to be in the discussion.
Maybe having better then the best winning percentage in the history of the conference is needed before one could be considered one of the best coaches.
If your objective is to win a bunch of regular season games, then yes, he's great. However, since for the great majority of sports fans the point is to win postseason games and championships, calling him "one of the best basketball coaches in the history of the Big Ten" is indeed preposterous. He chronically underachieves in the postseason, a point that even the most ardent Becky backer cannot dispute. I mean, how often do you hear someone lobby for Marty Schottenheimer as an all-time great NFL head coach? Bo Ryan is essentially the Marty Schottenheimer of Big Ten BB coaches - great in the regular season, a dud when the games really matter.
He's not even in the top 10 among Big Ten coaches in the last 30 years, let alone in the 107-year history of the conference.
