LW did a crossover move at which point the defender basically offered him a free and clear path to the bucket. What was he supposed to do?
Well we did have about 1 second to spare on the shot clock, so he would've had to take a shot anyway or get a TO. I'd rather take the shot (or dunk). So I think we need to give LW a break on this one. Let's criticize him for something worthwhile, not this.

By we, I am going to assume you meant the team on the court.
Remember... You just have to release the ball before the shot clock expires. He could of just thrown the ball in the air, into the crowd, passed it to a teammate or shot it from half court with 2 seconds to go in the game. The whistle doesnt blow until ball hits the ground after not hitting the rim.

I don't believe this is quite true. Failure to attempt a shot, that hits the rim, within this time results in loss of possession. A buzzer goes off when the shot clock reaches zero.
The ball must hit the rim prior to the clock winding down to zero.

Not quite. The shot just needs to be released before the shot clock expires. The ball can contact the rim after the buzzer.
#3 is the key. Stop calling timeouts when the game is out of reach...
I feel a little better about Westbrook after that
The young man just seems clueless as to how his actions (whether it be pouting, screaming, trash-talking, or rubbing it in) reflect negatively on the program. I'm betting Tubby was less than pleased.
As for those saying that the 1 second differential in the shot clock left him no choice....c'mon!!! He could've chucked the ball to the rafters as the shot clock ran out and the game would've been over.
I'm betting Bo will be reminding his players of that move for a long time.
OTOH, it was priceless to kick their butts....not even close.
There are three parts to this:
1.Of course hating Wisconsin it was funny to see Westbrook go in their face. So it was humorous.
2. But it was classless- completely classless and unsportsmanlike.
3. You KNOW that Tubby hated it and you KNOW that this is Westbrook thinking "I don't give a rip - I do what I want to do." And that in itself tells you what is wrong with the young man. No respect or sense of the bigger picture.
So as humorous and "Animal House" like as the attempted dunk was - it was also a sad statement. We outclassed Wisconsin and their boorish coach in every other possible way last night and we could have done without that.
No problem with the dunk attempt- play the game. Ryan was taking timeouts... Hughes was playing til the end. Ryan started screaming at the refs when they started the clock early with 3.3 secs left.. they kept playing..
