Week 12 Other Games Thread

After watching the second half of Northwestern v. Wisconsin, I don't know who performed more poorly: The officials (on both sides) or the voters who put those two squads in the top 25.

What a wonderful day! Gophers win; *sshole fans who dress in red in Madison and Columbus are shocked and pissed.

Starting to think Tom Herman was a big reason why this offense was so good last year.

Well they got hot and played so outstanding with Jones at QB because they threw the ball as much as they ran it. For some reason, all freaking year, with several NFL talents at WR, Ohio St has been awful on offense. They weren't good against us and they were awful today (credit to MN and MSU defenses of course). But with virtually everyone back, coming off destroying Alabama and Oregon defenses, there is no excuse. Truth is, OSU has underperformed this year (which for them is 10-1). There is no excuse for losing to MSU who couldn't throw a forward pass. For whatever reason, that team is content with last year's title.

LSU was just ranked #2 in the country a few weeks ago. They are a little over a quarter away from probably not being ranked. On second thought, it is the SEC so for all we know they will only drop a few spots.

LSU losing shows how deep the SEC is. Based on that, every other team in the SEC should move into the top 10.

Baylor about to score 20 seconds in...

7-0 Baylor. 4 plays 56 seconds.

There was a long td catch that was called a td, but he was clearly down on the 1 yard line. Then they scored again on a QB rollout pass, but the guy who caught it took about 3 steps in the end zone, rolled out of bounds and bobbled the ball while rolling. So they said he didn't complete the process of the catch. It was certainly a call where you'd be livid if it went against your team. I'm not sure how many steps a guy has to take. Although I'm not at all sad to see it happen to Sconnie.

If the ball would have popped all the way out, it definitely would have been an incompletion, so if he bobbled it while out of bounds, the catch wasn't completed. That call was right. Where Wisconsin was hosed was on that bizarre fair catch signal issue with Erickson.

14-0 Baylor 1:40 into game...

Although the td will be overturned. Baylor did get a turnover though...

Kinda like when a game ends something like 13-10 in the SEC, it is because both defenses are so good. Same thing happens in any other conference and it is because the teams are so bad.

Turnover was overturned as well. Made no sense to me. But not a whole lot the officials do makes sense these days.

Was a fumble and they should have left it right there for Baylor. But whatever..

14-0 Baylor.

Wow, Elliott says coaches didn't put them in position to win against a team they should beat. He and Cardale both say they're done. Guess they're not interested in playing in OSU's bowl game. Also sounds like they don't know how to handle losing.

Or the Michigan game next week.

Okie St and Baylor right on pace for 70 each...

Do announcers know that the word "tempo" means "the rate of speed", and not "a fast speed"? Bothers the crap out of me.

Incorrect: "They are going tempo". Correct: "They are going with a fast tempo". Maybe I'm turning into an old fart but I hate when mainstream professional journalists or announcers try to change definitions of words like this. < / endgripe>

Georgia is tied with Georgia Southern late in the first half. So much for scheduling creampuffs late in the season.

Technically, it's not a fair catch, but it's friggin' playground BS. They should probably revise the rule to make it clear that if the ball is in the air and the returner makes any similar motion, it constitutes a fair catch. Once it hits the ground, Erickson could do the Charleston for all I care and for all the refs should care. Note to Gophers, if Erickson tries that next Saturday, knock him on his butt before he can pick up the ball because it isn't a fair catch and as a result, he's fair game once the ball hits the ground.

If you watch the play all the players including Erickson start slowing up and NW players pass on laying him out. Erickson then takes off because whistle never blows. Ref's got this call 100% correct.

Hence my use of the word "technically." I don't doubt that Erickson's intention was to make it look as much like a fair catch as possible.

I'm way old, but I can remember ages ago in the NFL when Lem Barney picked up the ball after it had rolled a few yards and the kicking team had neglected to down it dead. He picked it up and returned for a TD all while the opposition was jogging off the field thinking they had killed the play.

It's clearly written in the rule book that you can't do what Erickson did and run with it. The only issue is that Millen kept spouting off that he disagreed with it.

Millen could be thinking NFL rules or something. The rules could be different for all I know.

Arkansas has scored 28 straight to go up 11 on Mississippi St.

Delta's team looking good again tonight. They are punishing Mississippi St in the 2nd half...

Arkansas, who lost to Toledo and Texas Tech, could finish in 2nd place in the SEC West.

Okie St is DEAD. I'm calling it even though they could still score 40 more in this game...
