Week 11 Other Games Thread

That UCLA team was way better than people gave them credit for. They gained like ~8 yards per play against the Gophers. Only reason Minnesota walked away with the W was UCLA's absurd penalty yardage and three turnovers.
They are definitely their own worst enemy but yeah, UCLA is better than their 4-5 record would indicate and our win against them is looking more and more solid as the year goes on. This game against Iowa would have been a route for them if they had done a better job taking care of the football, especially down by the goal line.

Crazy to think that 4 of their 5 loses came to teams currently ranked in the top 15 of the first CFP ranking (Oregon, Indiana, Penn State, LSU).

They finish iwith 3 very winnable games (Washington, USC, Fresno State). A bowl game certainly isn't out of the question for them.

Lots of injuries - but on both sides. UCLA lost their LT, and did not play a couple receivers, including the impressive one against us, Sturdivant. I have watched UCLA several times - starting with their very unimpressive opener (sound familiar?) against Hawaii. They have gotten a lot better. They are actually pretty physical and they have a nice blend on O. Garbers, though responsible for 3 really bad TOs, is gritty and actually very accurate (picks were tipped/rushed) with even some time to throw. Mostly, they more than doubled Iowa on the ground, roughly 200 to 85! That was a really good win for our Gophers in retrospect.

I don't disagree, but they made winning plays when they had to, unlike the Gopher game.

They have momentum now. When the Gophers played them, they didn't.

If I recall correctly, you thought UCLA might be the worst team in the Big 10 back in Sept/Oct. That seemed quite plausible.

The Bruins had never won a Big 10 Conference game when Minnesota showed up at the Rose Bowl, and after it seemed quite possible that they might have to wait until 2025. They have 3 now.
Yeah I was wrong about them. Coach is doing a good job

Beginning of the season went how i thought it would go. I assumed with a coach with no experience it would spiral on them

UCLA had 5.3 yards per play against us.

Was Johnson injured? He went down so easily, never really seemed to get up a head of steam. His normal convoy of blockers on those end sweeps was nowhere to be seen and he looked like a big, slow back last night.

In some ways, I found myself wondering if playing on grass kind of slowed him down.

I recall thinking that in some ways the Gopher Team played a little slower than they appear. to play in most home games on their home field? Perhaps as I become more ancient, I just don’t see things very well. My perception of 225 pound running backs playing on the Rose Bowl Field kicking up chunks of turf as they try to make cuts and accelerate going north and south is maybe just fooling my tired old eyes. He looked a lot more powerful, shifty and faster playing in our bank name stadium in the second half of the Gopher loss to the stinking hawkeye team.

Hopefully it doesn't come back to bite them. UCLA looking really good outside of the turnovers.

Remember: UCLA started the season beating Hawaii
then in successive games played LSU, Oregon, PSU. I believe their fifth game was Minnesota. They had our Gopher Team on the ropes in the 4th quarter. Since then they have defeated Nebraska, Rutgers and Iowa

I could listen to Saban on Gameday all day long.

Iowa’s inability to run versus stop the run was something. They made UCLA look like a vintage Alabama defense. Bruins dominated TOP almost 38 minutes. As we saw at our game Garbers is pretty good. UCLA is a good story. Poor Iowa fans.

Ferentz's teams used to get better as the season went on. Not anymore.

I wrote a couple of weeks ago regarding Michigan's status is that the old Bud Grant saying "When you play a team is as important as who that team is." We play either Michigan or Iowa now, we would be in a good position to beat them. As the schedule played out, we faced them early when they were healthy and there wasn't enough film on them to identify their weaknesses.

Converse is also true. It we play UCLA now, maybe they handle us.

As a side note, I never feel bad for Iowa.

Not me.

The following is not directed at PE, just venting this morning.

He must hate his family.

He stated coaching in 1973. He spent 50 years away from his family, only to not retire, but spend even more time away from them.

I think he’s an arrogant prick and I will never like him. Even though my niece got her undergraduate from there and is currently there doing grad work and I love her to pieces . So now I have to deal with my sister, brother in law and niece be arrogant pricks about their team.

He may not have been 100%, few are at this point but I also think UCLA has a legit good rush defense as well. They shut us down completely on the ground when we played them and with Iowa they clearly weren't going to be scared of the pass so they could load up to stop Johnson.

Fair, but show me a coach that isn’t highly confident/arrogant. Genuinely can’t think of one at any level. A job requirement. He’s clearly an excellent communicator/coach with a GOAT track record.

What's happened to Purdue

It feels so good to be slurping a drink late here on a Friday night after watching the Squawks blow a B1G game. I sort of have a similar feeling as I do after a Gopher victory.

But it will all be for nuttin’ if the Gophers do not take care of business later today. Let’s make this a great weekend.
You better have another drink. The Gophers “shot” the bed as bad as Iowa did.

Lots of good games in the afternoon window.

Indiana/Michigan
Ole Miss/Georgia
Colorado/TTech

Need this Gophers bball game to cruise so that I can get some more of these on the TV.

Watching Indiana and just realized the Penn State game was exactly five years ago. 9-0 off the back of a win against #4 Penn State. So close to the tippity top

Might be upset Saturday brewing. All the ranked or higher ranked teams currently losing except Indiana

Michigan only down two in the fourth. Making it a game. Go Indy!

Iowa State getting stomped by a 2-6 Kansas team.

Cyclones have cut the 2nd half deficit from 25 to 10 and just got the ball back.

CU & TexasTech game is chippy as all get out.

The refs just said that if the Tech faithful don’t stop throwing stuff, they’re going to start ejecting whole sections🤣. The Tech coach just now yelled at the fans to stop throwing crap in the field.

Colorado up 31-20 as the 4Q is starting.

Keeping it classy in Lubbock. What an armpit. Went there for work twice, it was like doing time.
