Weber plays every single snap in blowout losses for one reason. Horton will be looking for a different job next year. Although this year was a total bust from a W-L point of view he will be able to point to the statistical improvement of Weber (compared to last year) in terms of passing yards, TD-Int ratio, and a couple of others. It is more about helping himself get a job, then it is preparing underclassmen for next year.

Regardless of whether Gray played or not, Weber would likely have started the Iowa game, his last home game as a senior. So, other than being irritated while watching the MSU & Illinois games, we can all relax. Horton isn't going to relent.

What if that taste is putrid & people don't re-up for season tickets because it's clear Gray's a disaster & won't be ready to get it done?
In my only comparison of Gray and Weber. Gray looked better last year against OSU's third string then Weber did this year. With a stable coaching staff Gray should be getting a shot at the end of games. If there is no one is going to be ready to play next year at QB why hadn't the staff been recruiting and JUCO QB for next year?
Next season is next season, it will have a new head coach and probably offense and defensive schemes. The only real thing that can happen if they play Gray now outside of getting live game snaps for next year is that he plays well and this puts undeserved fan ridicule on A. Weber. It shows they coaches made a mistake (they have already been fired) and gets the fans even more riled up. Maybe the switch would lead to a win or two (hard to see how) but it doesn't lead to a bowl.
Unless you are at practice its hard to say exactly how clear it is if Gray is a disaster.

Yes, Horton is trying to coach for a new position next year by improving the statistal performance of Weber, and that's completely understandable. However, he has also been the QB coach the entire year, and that job also includes developing the other individuals at that position. Do you really think that a future employer will be overwhelmed by a couple basis point increase in Weber's passing efficiency and completely overlook the fact that he was not able to develop any of the other guys to come in if Weber would ever get injured?
