Vikings TCF Upgrades

Well no one has used that for awhile. It needed to be said. Do you sit or stand when you text?

Just saying you sure have a lot of comments about game time etiquette for a guy that never goes to the actual games.

I feel sorry for all those that are forced to just watch the game.:cool02:

If you have a phone with internet capabilities, why wouldn't you expect to use it? Like I said, at halftime of the game, I wouldn't mind checking out GH. Not that the lack of an internet connection would keep me from attending the games. It's not as though GH is shut down during the games.

Some of you guys sure are touchy.

Some of you guys sure are touchy.

Just couldn't understand why anyone would care about someone else having service in the stadium. Shoot.....I could care less if you even bother to bring your phone.

I wonder if I'll get a free chair back for two years compliments of the Vikings?

I think it is because they either miss Dr.Don or they are upset because it is going to be above freezing today.

Then, on the other hand there is not much to talk about right now. Coach Kill is doing well so that is not going to get any legs. Too soon for another thread about college star ranking systems. How about the fact that out recent class has three more signings than slots presently available. It will get solved, but will it be through attrition, grey shirting, or a combination of the two?

Apologies for drifting off topic a little but reluctant to start another Vikings thread on the forum.

I get the feeling from reading this thread that a lot of Gopher fans are a bit indifferent to the fortunes of the Vikings and vice versa - wondering how people will feel if the Vikings make their own upgrade of sorts in free agency and land Eric Decker? Will having an ex-gopher star (coupled with the games being at TCF) significantly increase the amount of interest Gophers fans have in the Vikings?

Vikings have way too many other needs than wr.

Signing Eric Decker would be a nice PR move in general, but the indifference shown to the Vikings by many Gopher fans that post here is not indicative of the feelings held by Gopher fans in the general public for the most part. The Vikes hardly need to cater to Gopher fans to get mass support from the fans or media attention.

Regarding stadium improvements, a big one that hasn't gotten much play would would be either the installation of a wifi network or boosters for the signals from AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, and Verizon. Most Gopher games play to well below capacity crowds, but you can still go minutes at a time without data coverage, especially at halftime. The Vikings will fill the house and overtax an already strained data situation. Their fans will want that situation improved and whatever remedies are employed will benefit Gopher fans as well and over a longer term.

Did the Vikings mention wifi when going through the improvements? Bad wifi and cell coverage was one of the things in ESPN's series about student attendance. Students want to tweet, snapchat, and instagram during the game.

I have posted several times how I get frustrated with internet coverage at Gopher games. This could use a big boost regardless of the Vikings sharing the stadium or not.

It is nearly impossible to post, tweet, etc. when in TCF Bank Stadium on game days. Very frustrating.

When TCF Bank was in the planning stages they never thought about Wifi. Now you have to or people might not go to the game.

Hartman: Vikings will take care of neighborhood concerns at TCF Bank Stadium

"
The Vikings will play two seasons at TCF Bank Stadium, and as part of their agreement with the University of Minnesota, the Vikings agreed to donate $250,000 to find ways to help the impact of gameday crowds on the neighborhoods around the stadium.

People who live around the stadium and many of the businesses around campus aren’t necessarily happy with the decision to allow the team to play there while their new stadium is built at the site of the Metrodome.

Lester Bagley, Vikings vice president of stadium development and public affairs, said he believes the “Good Neighbor Fund” will keep relations between the community and the team smooth.

“Over the last year or so we worked to establish a ‘Good Neighbor Fund’ and agreed on an amount,” Bagley said. “The Vikings will contribute $125,000 each year for 2014 and 2015. That $125,000 will be about $90,000 in cash and $30,000 in in-kind contributions. … There’s a process to establish grants to various groups that come forward and identify issues that should be addressed.

“The plan is to try to help leave the university in better shape than we found it after our games. So [we’re] trying to be good neighbors and trying to find a way to address issues that could come up related to our two seasons at the stadium.”

“Between the neighbors, the university and the Vikings, we will sort out the most deserving proposals and provide grants to those groups.

“One student group came forward with a proposal to increase the lighting [around the stadium], given some of the public safety issues and concerns that have been raised over at the university, and some of the media attention about those issues.

“So there’s a proposal to increase the lighting, put some more lighting in key areas in the evenings. That’s a good example of a program that we think deserves strong consideration.”

You can rest assured that the Vikings will make sure that all concerns are taken care of when it comes to pre- and postgame issues around the stadium."

I agree completely. Simply having the exposure of game day/stadium would help the program. I doubt it would be terribly expensive to purchase and install. It's not a one time cost.......but it would likely be one that stand on its own for three or four years.
