USA TODAY: Dabo has 'zero doubt' football will start on time

Politics aside I hope that we can play this fall. Meanwhile we need to be realistic for the next 2-3 months and deal with it by following the 6 foot rule etc. If we don't, its going to be a long summer and fall for sure.

Dabo is in a state that the last time I looked has not shut down.
It is a state that believes in the bible more than science so his predictions are likely to be as accurate as Trump's which are based not on the bible but his magical thinking.

South Carolina doesn’t appear to be having a big problem with this, and it’s not a foregone conclusion that they’re going to.

So SC is exempt from a pandemic that has affected every state in the union?
I can see magical thinking is more wide spread than the White House.

I’m just telling you, they aren’t having a big problem. I looked at their numbers. Why should they have to shut down, just because it’s a problem in a few other places? Maybe they have better models.

Indeed, why ever set foot inside the state of SC?

Unless you're going to the male stripper competition, like Magic Mike.

I will say this. If Dabo is correct and we have football. No one here will give him props.

If he is wrong though, many of you will come back and share that he was wrong. The media included.

It seems like there is one side that can continually do that and never have to answer.

Oh well

one big issue is that people want a date on which everything goes back to normal.

But there is not "one" date for that. There is not one peak for the virus. there will be 50 peaks - one for every state.

And that is the issue with sports - if things look good in MN, but they're still having a lot of infections in Florida - what happens to a game between MN and Florida Atlantic? Play - don't play? there are just so many variables. and that is true for any game that crosses state lines.

I think the real question becomes one of timing. At what point or what date does a final decision have to be made? Will schedules have to be re-shuffled on the spot? will they be making up the schedule on a week-by-week basis?

Bottom line - if a significant number of people are still getting sick and dying, and college FB says "We want to play games," that could be a public relations nightmare.

What a leader: Dealing with a crisis by... pretending it doesn't exist. Happy talk conquers reality.

No reasoning, no planning, no vision beyond "Follow me, I'm waving the American flag!"

This is similar to the mentality of people saying, "This sacrifice we're making is too hard. It sucks! I want my football, damnit! Let's just go back to living our lives, and let Grandma and Grandpa die."

Grandma and Grandpa (my wife and I) will make their own decisions about whether we go to the games or not just as we decide who to visit, just as we decide who to let into our home. If you are afraid that is fine with me, but do not pretend you are afraid for us. We want you to go on with your lives and improve the herd immunity so that the day will come when we can all go about our lives.

The game is here. Can't we just test our players and their players the day before the game? Same with the refs and cheerleaders. If good, play the game. Is that 100% safe? No, so what?

Do you know what the cost for the rt-PCR test for Covid-19 happens to be? The average cost is about a grand. Are you going to spend $200K just to get the teams together.

that is presupposing that the testing will not be cheaper by September which I think is a poor assumption

Solid rejoinder, thanks for the refutation.

Relax, jumper. Your shoot will open. If the price drops, it drops. On the other hand, it is a test that a physician must order and they will not when they are not indicated. Did you ever think of that.

Which reminds me of an old joke. What goes through the mind of an airborne troop when his shoot fails to open? His polished boots. Why polished boots? Because the casket should look nice.

Yes, and so would both teams.

Neither team physician will order Covid 19 tests with a patient with no need for the test. Do you think labs have nothing better to do then run 200 tests for the hell of it when real sick people have to be served by those labs? The arrogance of the normal football fan is blithely foolish and self centered.

How does a self centered person screw in a lightbulb? He holds the bulb up and waits for the world to turn around him.

Well by August, we had better have few cases and not many sick. That's 5 months from now.

I think it's extremely reasonable that they test the players and play.

Sorry, I thought we were talking about an event to be held in September in a state that was said to have very few cases by then, therefore, I must ask, what would you know about screwing in a lightbulb?

Well Trump had a conference call with all the representatives of major sports today. Wants them all going by August-September. Meaning practices start in July. In addition wants current NBA and NHL to get going and finish up this season as soon as possible. Doctors disagree with that assessment. Just reporting what was said.

If there is football being played this coming fall, it will be because it is safe at that point to do so. Well, at least I hope it will be because it's safe... and not because the powers that be gave up, threw up their hands and said, "Screw it! Let's just go back to doing things the way we always have, and let the chips fall where they may."

If it is safe to play football by the autumn of 2020, do you think it's likely to have been made safe because of something Dabo Swinney did?

If that's the case — if Dabo develops a vaccine, or Dabo designs a really effective coping/safety protocol that people can follow to avoid spreading the virus — then I assure you I'll try like hell to be first in line to give him credit for doing so.

Are we at September yet? Are things improved yet? Can a second wave begin before then? If you have the better crystal ball, good for you Pops.

Do you work in a lab? Are you a doctor that is going to write the script for two teams and staff to get tested for no fundamentally sound reason? Are you seriously thinking of wasting the time of an entire lab to play a football game? Is this not the same stupid argument that every team, of every sport, of every event is going to make? Let's put something in perspective. A whole lot of other tests have been backlogged and not being done now that have to be done after the pandemic has past. And, you think football gets a free ride to get in line and jump the line to play football? You are that confident that football warrants this special treatment? It is an unethical use of resources for one. There are many people that are going to come flooding back for help. Every non essential surgeries will be squeezed into the next several months. Then, the weary staff is going to want to go on vacation after working long hours and days from now til then. And, then it becomes flu season again. Give me a break!

You are absolutely crazy. You haven't thought this through, at all. This is more American brand mega magical thinking day.

I thought football has always been unsafe to play?

Sports, and especially football, are a far bigger part of the economy than many on here are admitting. It's not just about the revenue that the teams bring in for their owners or schools. It's not just about fans being selfish because they want sports back.

You keep sports shut down and you are destroying local economies that depend on sporting events to bring in revenue and pay workers. You're destroying hotels, bars, restaurants, travel, arenas, cable companies, advertising, sports media, and all workers that are associated with these businesses. I'm sure I'm missing others as well.

the hope was for that, but he never said it would happen.

I'm hoping they play football. The goal is to play football on August 28th or whatever the date. Did I just guarantee it?

Now Biden and ALL the left called not letting in the Chinese as fear mongering and racist. That is an example of something clearly said.
Watching FOX News again? Clearly you have no sense.
