Ugh, Sean Foster de-commits from Minnesota

I think any top lineman can play any scheme-- what are we moving from power running to only pass blocking-- it makes no sense and I agree with you that it is very off that this kid couldn't fit into whatever they are planning
How did Issac hayes turn out?

Bummed we are losing Foster. Amused that this de-commit has made some determine TC has no clue, will fail, and that the Gophers will never get above 8-wins. Sometimes I think I'm in The Truman show and Folks want to see how I'll react to such nonsense.

I think most people-- at least what I think are finding it strange a highly recruited kid like Foster couldn't fit into whatever scheme they can find. Also, the fact we lose so many OL (I think 7 with the couple Jr's leaving) that this kid may have been able to play right away much like Moore did this year. Whatever plan Claeys has better including adding quality lineman which at this time of year are tough to come by. Claeys has no reason to have an off year in recruiting as this was sold as a seemless transition from Kill to Claeys

So if we brought in a coach that wants to run the triple option and you have a highly recruited QB who isn't very athletic committed, you just keep him and find a way to make it work?

Who knows if it will all work out, we'll jut have to see.

Isn't he an Iowa legacy, but was never recruited by Iowa? I remember some Hawkeye acquaintances being perplexed by that...

I always wonder about pre-season rankings.

I dunno. Pretty sure we read identical posts when Teague fired Tubby. You had to be nuts to think a plan wasn't in place and that Teague knew who he wanted to hire. Then...

The big difference is Teague inherited Tubby. Claeys and Limegrover have been together for 16 years. You don't dump a relationship like that for what is possibly Claeys one shot at being a head coach unless you have a plan in place.

As for the people freaking out about about Foster, just because Rivals has him ranked 4 stars, doesn't mean he will pan out, or that the coaches view him that highly.

I honestly enjoy everyone's optimism, that were going back to the Rose bowl in a year or two...(for the last 12 years), but I just don't see this program getting to where we deserve it to be. Even hit & miss programs like NW end up in Pasadena every 20 years or so... My only suggestion, is that everyone hop in the Earth Ascent Vehicle, and come back for splash down in the South Pacific.

What exactly do we "deserve" as fans? I'm serious. This idea that just because you root for a team, you "deserve" a winning program makes me want to laugh. It's your choice to follow or root for a team. There is no guarantee that the team you choose to follow will be good. I have friends who are Cub fans. they suffer every season, and have gone their entire lives without seeing the Cubs in a World Series. Remember - the worst team in every sport has fans. I know a guy who is a Philadelphia 76'ers fan. Think he's having fun this year?

I have followed Gopher FB since the mid-60's. I enjoy the good seasons, and I suffer through the bad seasons. But, I NEVER have felt that I "deserve" something from the gophers. It's my choice to root for the Gophers. I never knew that being a fan of a team gave you some kind of right to demand a certain level of excellence. If being a fan of the Gophers is not providing the type of experience you want, you are free to root for another team. or just sit and home and gnash your teeth because the world is not working out the way you want.

Yeah i'm calling BS here.. are they trying to say that He didn't fit as well as Sam Schlueter, Conner Olson Matt Kegel or Vincient Calhoun?..

Your reasoning is sound. I hope it is correct.

Word is Amir Watts, our top d-line recruit, dominated Foster when they went 1:1. Claeys probably watched the film and was less than impressed.

We only have so many recruiting spots open, everyone needs to relax. Last year we took 5 prep o-lineman and redshirted 4. It sounds like both Connelly and Oseland really impressed and will battle to start next year. We still have 3 prep o-lineman in this class and are after several more. Not to mention we need to take a few JUCO OG's who we can plug in as starters next season. Foster seems to be a great kid who was loyal and is also a good prospect, but trust the staff to make the right call on this.

Or, if you prefer this approach:

IT'S THE END OF THE WORLD! WE'RE DOOMED! THE GOPHERS WILL NEVER WIN ANOTHER GAME!

There, does that make you feel better?

What's B.S.? We will have 8 FR/RSFR on the roster for OL in 2016. Claeys might feel he needs a DT or an OL/DT athlete. He's not going to F with in-state guys scholarships unless it's a last resort. Let's let it play out and see where he ends up. I think Claeys wants versatility and not a 6'8" one position player.

Wait, so you mean there are things going on behind the scenes? And we are not privy to some of these facts? And Claeys make in fact have a plan and is not just firing people willy nilly?

LMAO, I love it! Nice post BarnBoy.

Everything I've heard about Claeys is that he is intelligent and analytical, not willy nilly. This leads me to believe he thinks ahead quite a bit, and quite well, and is just a tad further along in his line of thinking than most of us have any idea. Whether it works or not, we'll see, but he most definitely has his plan and is executing it.

Good post. This class currently has zero QB, RB, and D-line commits. We need at least 4 d-lineman, 2 QBs, and a RB. We currently have 4 O-line commits and are still after Wright, Castillo, and the kid from Louisiana. Having a 6th or 7th o-lineman isn't the top priority. I'm sure Foster ends up at a good P5 school, and we still end up with a good O-line class.

I think it is very possible this was the coaching staff's decision and not Fosters. Foster appeared still on board as of yesterday. I find it hard to believe that his mind changed that quickly. Possible but highly unlikely.

Not only likely, but almost certain. Let's cut the kid a break, he seems like a loyal and great kid. Let's wish him well and hope he has a successful career.

Teague had a plan, it didn't work, thought it was pretty obvious he thought could get Shaka Smart to follow him

Watch him end up at Wisconsin and win the Lombardi.

Claeys is now the HC. He clearly wants the O to go in a different direction and he could very well think Foster doesn't fit that. It doesn't seem likely that he's going to go with the 'find the best OC possible and let him run the O' route, especially since he's apparently keeping the rest of the O staff. Tells me that he has an idea of the type of O he wants and will find a coach to fit that which means he could very well have a good idea of the types of players he wants on the OL

I don't know a lot about offensive lines but what type of things could the coaching staff be changing that would not require a big, strong, athletic guy? I mean the guy could still red shirt and learn or develop into this type of player no? I mean we've lost way more recruits than we've picked up the last few months...seems weird we would tell one of our better ones to look elsewhere all of a sudden.

Nothing. But are you sure Foster truly is all of those things? He's clearly big, but how athletic is he? Do you know how well he moves laterally compared to his peers?

are we really to the point where we don't need a 4 star tackle? If that's where we're at, then I'm raising my expectations for next year

Unless his offer list changes, he's an odd 4* OT. As I posted, he has 13 P5 offers and none of those teams finished better than 7-5.

As I mentioned awhile back......Some former players have said Claeys is/was the Mark Few of the football team.

Because yes, stars are everything.

Not a huge hoops fan. Please explain.

Guessing he means Claeys is the brains behind the operation. Dan Monson was the HC at Gonzaga and when MN hired him away few took over and took the program even further while Monson's career plateaued, insinuating that Few was the real driving force behind the Zags success
