The University of Minnesota has released information for volunteers interested in helping with snow removal at TCF Bank Stadium in preparation for Monday night's Vikings-Bears game.

Volunteers will be accepted at 8 a.m., Noon and 4 p.m. beginning Thursday. Volunteer help will be accepted at those times on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. No volunteer help is being requested or accepted for Wednesday. Volunteers should gather outside the Lincoln County entrance to TCF Bank Stadium at the times listed above.

Volunteers must be 18 years of age and are encouraged to wear proper outdoor attire. Shovels will be provided, but volunteers are welcome to bring their own shovel if they wish.

why can't they pay these guys like 10 bucks an hour? This is cheap crap by the U.

Another 3 to 6 inches for tonight into tomorrow. That should add to the fun, literally.

"Cheap Crap" <- That's one opinion. I think it's terrific. I like the idea of Minnesotans resolving our problems with a little can-do and volunteerism.

They do this in Green Bay every winter, just open the doors and have people show up with shovels to clean the stadium, they have huge conveyor belts that run down the aisles for the snow.

AND the Green Bay Peckers pay them.

Also they don't use conveyor belts. They are just metal slides, but give the appearance of conveyor belts when the snow is sliding down.

Agreed. People can call the U cheap if they want, but I could also call people who complain they don't get paid, greedy. This is not something they expected or budgeted for. It's a one-time thing, and they're in a hurry to get it done. I would volunteer if I lived closer for sure.

They are paying the temp workers. I think this is in addition to those workers.

I guess people have been calling asking to help.

+1

After they shovel out TCF, they are going to sandbag the river, and then off to raise a barn. Love that "can do" spirit.

Honestly - I'd think if anyone would be paying for workers, it would completely rest on the shoulders of the Vikings.

Hilarious that some of you are calling on fellow citizens to volunteer out of the goodness of their heart. That makes sense, instead of a billionaire owner and the filthy rich NFL paying common Joe's for their time, lets just do it to be "good people". Shut the fuc& up. These SOBs should be hiring companies to remove the snow for them, not seeking volunteers. I am hoping nobody shows up, makes no sense whatsoever.

"Hi Zigi, I know you are worth millions, but can I shovel snow for you free of charge?? PLEEEEASE??"

So when you volunteer (if you ever have), what are your reasons? To be noticed? To pick up chicks? If I choose to use my time to do this, I think it is rather dickish of you to say that I am wasting my time. Make your own choices, and leave others to make their choices.

That statement there just screams intelligence. Nice job.

I'm guessing if you lived on the Gulf Coast you'd have just sat there watching the oil come in, waiting for BP to come 'fix it'?

Holy Apples & Oranges, Batman!!!

Those two situations aren't even close. On one hand you had an environmental disaster of epic proportions, largely caused by corporate negligence and greed. And I believe that most of the people you saw cleaning up goo on the beaches were getting paid.

On the other hand you have a situation caused by nature, and corporate greed by the NFL and Zygi are trying to get people to do their work for free so they can make a buck. My guess is that the U is asking for volunteers because the Wilf's stonewalled them on paying for the snow removal. Of course, that's what happens when the U sends in a bunch of chimps (or Maturi) to negotiate with a NJ businessman.

Are you really trying to compare charitable organizations to the Vikings??? I think I'll just save my time responding anymore on this one....

You just used the phrase corporate greed to describe both situations, so I couldn't have been too far off. Both situations were at root caused by an unexpected disaster and an 'evil rich person/company' is on the hook for the bill. So if you can't see why you should help in one case, why would you in the other?

No, I'm comparing choosing to volunteer to choosing to volunteer. At least I can rest in the comfort that you will not be responding to this.

Well, for starters, who will it affect??? The rubes that want to watch the Vikes? The Wilfs? The NFL? Again, how is this called a "disaster"???

Now lets look on the other hand, the oil spill affected people's jobs, natural resources, the enviroment, etc, etc, etc.

Just cut your losses...
