Two U employees harassed by Norwood Teague come forward

Not totally off topic, but does anyone have that picture of Teague at the barbeque before one of the bowl games. He was wearing shorts that provided a visual clue as to the nature of his junk.

As a guy, I try not to look at another guys junk. But, if it were that obvious, the guy has larger issues. This isn't the 70's and underwear is not optional in polite society.

I am no more responsible for another man's actions than I am for any woman's actions. People are responsible for their own actions.

To say Teague's actions reflect badly on all men is illogical.

Very true. But the fact is that Women face this stuff a lot more than men. Women are paid less for the same jobs and face sexual harassment are far greater levels.. so I can see Winni's side.

You just changed the subject.

How about ashamed to be a member of the human race? Women do bad things as well. Try not to bleed all over the thread.

Why don't you guys direct your vitriol towards that creep Teague? You obviously have zero understanding of women issues

The fact that reporters were digging around trying to out these two woman, it sadly reflects why so many people have such low respect for the journalism profession.

Yep.

To all the guys complaining about Winnipeg's post. I suggest you call your mom/wife/sister/girlfriend and proudly read these series of posts to them.

Let's see how that goes.

I will give it a go! But what about my Grammy? Should I include her? She's mostly deaf... but I suppose I could shout them to her over the phone.

My wife suggested there is a difference between sympathy and empathy.

Does anyone remember the original topic of this thread? I find it a bit ironic that Winnipegopher makes an empathetic statement about what the two U of M employees have endured and suddenly this turns into a debate about his comments rather than addressing the topic of the thread. Winnipegopher feels some collective guilt and many of the rest of you don't. I get it, you aren't guilty and don't feel guilty. Teague was guilty. Fine. So back to the real topic, I don't know if Teague had malicious intent when he included information that could make it easier to identify his victims. Maybe, maybe not. In any case, when Ann Aronson and Erin Dady felt compelled to come forward because of the resulting speculation they used that opportunity to eloquently shine the light on sexual harassment. It was their right to remain anonymous but since that choice was taken from them, they made the best of it. If you haven't read the article and their full statement, you should.

Teague's actions reflect only on himself! Because he decided to be an idiot doesn't make everyone else one along with him, just because they share a gender with him. Or a department with him either, as I've heard it suggested that the University should just clean house in the Athletic Department. What a ridiculus notion! I've never sexually harassed anyone, or drunk texted anyone, so I'm not going to be lumped into a group with those that do just because we both happen to be males. And if the President of your company fired you soley because your manager did something questionable (or illegal) and he or she wanted to "clean house", I'm sure you wouldn't think that wasn't very fair. We've developed a pack mentality, we attack in packs and put people in packs, that's the easy way. just because one is a knucklehead, doesn't mean everyone is a knucklehead. Punish those who deserve it, not everyone.

Well written.

Much better than I could have expressed it.

Thanks for trying to get us back on track.

Is there any worse trend in this country (and Canada I guess) than male feminists?

Getting back to the original post - Teague either had to be blind drunk or blind stupid. Of all women to target, he chose two in high-profile roles, and who were connected to the College President. he had to know this would get back to Kaler. And, the incident with Amelia Rayno - a reporter, who could have blown the whistle on him - it just makes you wonder what makes this guy tick.

Knowing what we know now, I'm just glad that a person with such poor decision-making ability is not running the U's athletic department any more. For all of the anti-Maturi rants on here, you have to admit that Joel never embarrassed the U the way Teague did.

Yes of course it is a reflection on me. It is a reflection on all men. As a male, do you feel totally innocent of all crimes against women? I don't.

Please those of who have integrity, honesty and compassion for others out of your guilt. Saying NT's actions is a reflection on all men is the ridiculous statement of the month.

YES!!! Female chauvinists.

I win the first Dr.Don's predict contest of the season! I honestly did predict (To myself) that he would be the first to post the above comment. When I thought about doing it myself I suddenly realized, no, don't do that, that is something Dr.Don would do. That stopped me in my tracts. This predict stuff is really easy!

It's really easy to predict wrong. Just ask station19. :cool02:

I think there is a verb missing.

Oh you boys, I see you're still picking on Winnipegopher. I have to hand it to you all, you've been pretty successful at deflecting from the topic. Just a hint, it's a little pathetic, give it a rest.

U r 2 cute

Sigh. Every once in a while (actually more than that) I am deeply ashamed of being male. This is one of them.

Thoughtless, pandering comment of the day. Never happened to me once, nor did I ever enslave or commit genocide. There is no such thing as communal guilt, only personal.

Incredibly sexist comment.

Weird... I don't see women saying this after something a Kardashian does...but ok.
Your self guilt that has nothing to do with you is.....all on you.
I have heard stories of women tricking men into pregnancies and such, using men for their money or trying to get ahead by their looks. Kind of makes you ashamed to be a women, don't it?

Silly you! Of course that's the man's fault because he has the money!

Yup, all us women are always tricking you into pregnancies and using men's money and getting by on our looks, and apparently I'm sexist to point out that many of you have hijacked Gopher Lady's original thread about the real victims of this story just because one guy shows some empathy. Let me give you all a clue: I think I can speak for most women that we don't blame all men for the actions of the true assholes in the world (Teague in this case). Every single one of us is responsible for our own behavior. We don't expect you to apologize for the Teagues of the world. We also don't expect all people to have the same level of empathy as Winnipegopher has displayed, but we do appreciate when it happens. What I find extremely pathetic is all of you stumbling all over each other to absolve yourselves of guilt. Of course you aren't guilty, but in the process you have made this all about you and deflected the attention from the three known victims of this story. Badly done.
