This will make 9. The streak must reach 18 and then it will be broken.
 

FanGraphs gives the Twins a 4.9% chance of winning the World Series.
 

One doesn't drive forward using only their rear view mirror. When I buy any investment, the literature tells me that "past performance is no guarantee of future results." Statistics tells us that "future outcomes are not affected by past events."

The Twins' chances of appearing in the WS this year is not impacted by the results of the 2002 Twins. There certainly is no correlation between the success or failure of teams in different sports.

Each season is a fresh start so each team starts 0-0. I choose to assess each team's roster on day one and determine whether this is the year or not. I get excited when a team exceeds expectations and am disappointed when they don't.

Since 1991, there have been few teams in this market that have championship credentials. To me, only the Vikes in '98 felt like a championship quality team. Every other team had clear warts.

The Twins' WS victories in '87 and '91 were major upsets. History tells us that another plucky team in this market will click at the right time and make an unexpected run. I'll be cheering for all MN teams win or lose until then!

Bold: Vikings should have won the Super Bowl in 1998 and 2009. They were better than the teams they lost to in the NFC Championship, and both those teams both the Saints went on to win the SB.

Would be interesting to know how that would impact the Minnesota sports psyche if they have both happened.

Atlanta did not go on to win the Super Bowl. They loss to Denver the year they beat Minnesota in the NFC Championship game. the Saints did win.

The 1987 Twins winning the WS, indeed was a major upset.

That team is the only Champion in MLB history to be outscored in the Regular Season. They also were fortunate to have Home Field advantage against both the Tigers & Cards, which was predetermined alternating between the Divisions/Leagues. Also Jack Clark was not available for St Louis and Terry Pendleton was limited. Indeed it was a bit flukey.

The 1991 Twins was NOT an upset in any manner. They won 95 games. They had the best record in the AL, 2nd only to Pittsburgh in MLB (98). They again enjoyed Dome Field advantage (also predetermined) against the Blue Jays & Braves, but had better records than both.

That team had a really strong lineup, were adept at fielding, a strong top 3 rotation as well as a reliable bullpen. It included 2 HoFers performing at a high level and the Rookie of the Year.

That club was damn good.
