Looks like this is far from over - and my personal take is that Tubby hasn't given up, and Royce still cares...but is just frustrated.

My boy, Gorton's Fisherman just contacted me with this nugget of information, he was actually at Vescios, and this is what he told me:

Royce and Tubby met at Vescios tonight. Gorton's Fisherman walked in after Royce had already left (although his friends saw them together). Bobby Knight also walked in. Bud and Mike Grant walk in, followed by Royce White, who forgot his keys, talks to the manager. Tubby pokes his head around the corner (in the opposite room as us at Vescio's) when he hears what's going on.

Others who were there were Grandpa Sid and Mike Max.

Nadine, it is exactly posts like the one above why I love this site.

Where else does news travel so fast?

Sounds like a lot of Sid coupons in use.

Very interesting. Thanks

It's getting messages like this that I love! GF is a credible source too. I didn't see it with my own two eyes, but I do trust him.

Aside from the fact that Royce can help us, I want to see him with a future, in school, playing for Tubby. Hopefully Tubby got through to him!

It looks like it's gonna be a long off season waiting to hear a decision by Tubby and Royce on the situation.

Is everyone totally missing the sarcasm or just playing along? Either way it's hilarious!

This thread doesn't sound that sarcastic to me...

That being said, it sounds so ridiculous I have a hard time believing it. But I still do, I think.

No sarcasm, we were there, yeah it sounds like a "all these guys walk into a bar" joke that's waiting for a punchline, but Bob Knight is in town for the game tomorrow, Sid always takes Bobby to Vescio's when he's in town. (http://www.startribune.com/entertainment/dining/11500511.html, just google "Vescio's Bob Knight" there's a couple others). The Royce White part of it floored everyone. Expected to see Bob Knight & Hartman, Bud Grant I guess probably goes back aways with Sid, who knows maybe he and Bob know each other somehow. I guess what I'm saying is everyone else makes sense, the Royce part just throws people off.

Coach Knight And Tubby

I heard first hand from Tubby and Donna how much respect they have for Coach Knight. He treated both of them very well and especially their son Saul (when UK "fans" did anything but).

Haha, that is good news. I thought it was a shot at everyone spreading the transfer rumors. That does make sense though, just a crazy bunch of characters.

Gopherlady works here, why do you think she would make it up?

As a joke, to lighten the mood. I get it now, relax bankonit.

I'm having trouble following the play-by-play (hey, I'm old! Kind of). Did Royce spend any time with Knight, Grant, et al, or was he gone before they arrived? Was Tubby part of the Knight, Grant, Sid group? In any event, it seems like great news.

Here's the timeline:

Tubby & Royce in Vescio's
Royce leaves
Sid Hartman was either in on the dinner or arrived sometime after.
Mike Max arrives
Bob Knight arrives
Bud and Mike Grant arrive, Royce follows them in saying he forgot/lost his keys, speaks with the manager.
Royce never went into the room with all of them in it, just spoke to the manager. So to clarify, he never spoke with Knight/Grant.
Tubby WAS a part of the group, but left about 20 minutes before the rest of them left.
Timeline was about 6:30 PM-9 PM

Trust me, GV - I thought the same thing when GF 1st told me...especially with all of the cameos. I did threaten to do my best to get him kicked out of school, or at the very least, GH...and he stood by it, haha, and elaborated. Like I said, he's new(er) to me, not like other stuff I post from "sources"...but I actually believe him.

I'd never make something up...I just hope these boys wouldn't either!

Hahaha thanks for the cred

This summit between Royce and Tubby couldn't have spontaneous. I imagine that Tubby reached out to Royce and asked him to meet him at the restaurant. I can't imagine Tubby would do that if he didn't have a plan. I, for one, hope he offered Royce a chance to come back and finish out the season.

not trying to stir the pot here or anything but I was at the wolves game tonight as crazy as that may be and who walked right in front of me with 9 minutes to go in the 2nd quarter? None other than Mr. Tubby Smith. He was by himself and sat in the first row behind the Wolves bench but only stayed for the remainder of the quarter. I didn't think anything of it until reading this post and I haven't doubled checked the timeline, just saying that Tubby was one busy man tonight.

Maybe Tubby borrowed Brewster's helicopter for the night.

Royce White is a quitter. If Tubby takes him back he loses some serious credibility. I don't understand how RW would even be eligible next Fall is he has dropped his course load this semester. He would have to enroll in Summer classes.

Why wouldn't he be treated like an incoming freshman? He didn't play a second of NCAA ball. I think he can just enroll in the fall, but I'm not positive.

His eligibility clock started ticking once he attended his first class.

If this is the case, how do they account for post-secondary? What about the seniors in HS that graduate at semester to join their teams early?

You have 5 years to play 4 once you attend that first class - unless there's medical RS in there somewhere.

What does that have to do with enrolling in the fall and playing next winter? He still has 4 years eligibility.
