The New Recruits

Interesting HOW they commented as well. I like both players and hope we keep them. As to Jefferson, what an opportunity he has! He would get to start out with a winning coach and have a wide open opportunity to compete for big minutes in the Big Ten right away.
Nothing on Jacob Evans yet. Hopefully we hear about him soon. Keeping 2 out 3 recruits is not too bad. 3 out 3 is golden

I really know very little about these kids game, but I think we have to wait until Niko analyzes their games to see if they fit his system and culture. He may tell one or more of them that they should look elsewhere. Or, maybe not. I just don't think he should pull out all stops to keep them if they aren't a good fit. Niko's offense is very different from Ben's.

You would be implying that we had an offense last year. I know I missed a couple of home games, but I don’t remember seeing one.

With 15 roster spots it will certainly be interesting what kind of conversations are had by the coaches amongst themselves and also what they tell the 3 high school recruits.
15 spots is a lot.....too many almost. so im guessing Niko wont be quick to push any of these guys away. of course if he doesnt see them as a fit at all thats one thing. but hopefully decisions are made on both sides here quickly so Niko can keep his attention in the portal

This is good news so far, but it is as expected this early into a coaching change.

Just looking at the program as a business:

1) For the player: they already have a commitment to a B1G school. Why burn that bridge unless you have another more attractive offer in your pocket.
2) For the Coach: Niko needs players. Of course he will dish out the offers to the type of players that he feels will fit his team. But it is early and there is no need to cast off recruits unless he has higher priorities on the hook. The easiest way is to over recruit every player and they will sort it out if they see no playing time.

That's very abstract reasoning. Medved has a fresh clock and a free pass in year 1 but he has a fair number of players to recruit. He should treat this as an audition year. If the players don't play, they'll likely transfer anyway. How is he going to know how well they'll fit if he doesn't see them play in his system? Basketball players aren't like inanimate tools that are built for one dedicated use.

It's not like Ben Johnson's freshmen recruits have been terrible on the whole. He had two bad ones in his first year but one of them was Pitino's. He had five freshmen recruits in his second year and only one (Betts) failed to be of any use. He had two in his third year. One was a one-and-done NBA player who started and the other was an international throw-in at the end. He had two in his fourth year. One played lots of minutes and the other redshirted.

I don't agree that there is a free pass this year. He will have enough money to assemble as good or better of a roster than Ben had last year. I know, I know, Garcia..and he was really good...but I am talking about a team that fits together and the whole is better than the sum of the parts. I think he can win this year, more games than we did last year, with or without Garcia.

I’m familiar with the other two. Who is Evans and what can we expect of him? Is he a player Niko will be interested in?

Edit: Okay. Duh. Evan’s is the guy from CSU, not a recruit.

I agree, I'm not ready to already count this coming season as a lost season just because it's year one. I don't expect them to win the conference, but I don't think it's overly optimistic to think they can be in the top half and on-the-bubble or better. In fact, I'm confident that he will hit the portal and find the right players to make that happen!

Jacob Ross is a very athletic wing who can defend. Some sites had him as a 4 star, some have him as a 3 star. I don't know that much about him outside of that.
