Yes it works for the players, my comment was caution to all the hopefuls who think he will be here as a jr or sr (if he thinks he can go first round as a freshman or sophomore…he is gone)

Half of the people we are comparing Ben to (Shrewsberry and gates) are black, Most of the people sh!ting on Ben right now wanted Pitino canned.

You’re trying to guilt people into believing things are improving here. Ben is an intelligent and capable adult who doesn’t need to be coddled by some white knight protectionist bulls!t.

We have a really bad team with awful roster construction and we probably wouldn’t be favored by much against UST. If we weren’t critical of Ben right now that would just be a bigotry of low expectations.

I hated the hire. I liked some things I saw last year. I liked some recruiting. I’ve hated everything this year.

I've already suggested that many of you need to step away for a while. You get too riled-up game by game.

This is a ground-up rebuild, just like with Haskins...starting with our freshmen and next year's higher rated recruits.

So step away...check the box scores to see how the freshmen are doing. Look for progress by the last 5 games of the year. But don't be like the others on here and get all riled-up and sling mud after every game.

Maybe you need to step away for awhile.

Nothing like telling the few remaining fans that care, from an already dwindling and apathetic fanbase, that they just shouldn't watch the games anymore. Players and future recruits love playing in front of empty crowds and for a fan base who doesn't care.

I was going to mention the same thing. This would be the highway to apathy…which would be the final straw for a program on its deathbed.

#1: You're becoming a little unhinged my man. You're a grown man and you just typed that out. If you're not embarrassed, you should be.

#2: Re-read my post. I'm not saying I want Ben canned right now and admitted there were things I liked from him last year. I don't even want a new coach yet, I think you have to give him into his third year.

#3: As far as the sky falling - - in terms of a college basketball team - - what would you have to see from a team to think the proverbial sky is falling?

Younger players are way more talented and will improve. With Garcia, Battle, and Cooper staying around for another year they will be more ingrained in the style of play and it should show. Add to that a very highly regarded recruiting class and you have the makings for a bright future.

That’s an opinion (could be right, could be wrong). What I mean by hard data is indisputable facts. Has their team defense worsened or gotten better this year compared to last year? What about offense?

How have we done YoY on every statistical category?

Indirectly he did but Norwood also wiffed on everyone else and basically begged Billy Donovan for a name. That was our chance to hire lowly down on his luck assistant at Arizona State, but alas

You guys who blast, mock, & ridicule Coach Johnson & the team daily try to claim that this is your way of supporting them.

I'm not buying it. Venting is fine...but you guys are straight-up mud-slinging. And several of you have been exposed as Wisconsin, St. Thomas, Michigan State, Marquette, & womens-sports fans.

You are desiring to move the goalpost. Let's stick with this season.
Are we turning over the ball more at this point than at the beginning? Are we worse at rebounding? Are we worse at free throw shooting? Are we worse at moving the ball and getting open looks than we were at the beginning?
We are now starting the B1G season. It's going to be very difficult for this team, but I expect us to be better at seasons end than the beginning. I am looking to see how we play un the B1G tournament. If our team gives up and stops trying, I will call it out. If they keep improving, I will wait.

They only have two guy's back from last year, and yes Thompson is measurably better defensively than he was last year. I expect the same from this years freshman class. As players get accustomed to each other offensively they will naturally improve, you can't have a new team every year and expect to win unless you have dominating natural ability which the Gophers will never have.
 


Perhaps the apt reply to this thread was coined by Mike Tyson when he famously said:

"Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth" The Big Ten is that constant punch in the mouth that test the plans and dreams of coaches that come into the conference.

It's a tough job.
