Temple's Anthony Lee transferring elsewhere for final season

Buckles was just under 14 and 9 this year at FIU.

I mean that what Lee averaged this year was the exact same thing as what Buckles did and they would both be 10 and 7 guys in the Big Ten for the gophers which still would be a massive improvement

Dekker will be starting at the 3 next year, his natural position. He's even more of a SG than PF. Hayes will start at PF, Kaminsky at C. They have some young bigs that will have to come off the bench, like Vitto Brown and Dukan (SF/PF). They also have a freshman PF.

ETA: Bo foreshadowed this lineup change against the Gophers in the BTT and it was a really strong line up.

exactly so they clearly don't need him very much if at all.

They could use him as the first big man off the bench. Wisconsin is likely to be the preseason favorite to win the conference so that along with it being close to Iowa could be attractive. Depends on what he wants.

Remember Tarik Black took a bench role with Kansas over numerous offers where he would have been an instant starter (Minnesota).

I would be thrilled if he came here and was a 10 and 7 guy. Even 8 and 6 would be nice. Joey King averaged 6.3 and 2.7, Oto had 5.4 and 2.8, and Buggs had 2.3 and 1.1. That was over a cumulative average of 46.6 minutes per game, that our PF position averaged 6.6 rebounds per game. I haven't checked with other teams, but I think that is bad.

A few things id be interested to look at for our rebounding-

What is the teams OVERALL "big men" rebounding? You'll notice times where the PF/C ha their man fully boxed out only for the board to go to the other big (or even a guard)

How many O boards were recorded by the other teams' guards? When you want to run, at least one of your guards will often leak out to offense leaving us vulnerable on long rebounds. IMO that was the case for a large number of rebounds in the Purdue game.

What do teams who play zone typically average for D-rebounds? Zone is always harder to rebound out of. Do we do it worse than others?

I don't know the answers to those, but IMO are factors to consider.

2/3 of those schools can GTFO. They are far from needy of a PF graduate transfer with all their 5-star recruits. We actually need a guy like this.

They all "need" him to some extent. I doubt Lee would be transferring if he just wanted to start, I think he already gets that at Temple. I'm sure he will be looking to move up to a higher profile program where he is more likely to make the tournament.

Those are all good questions. I used to love playing against zone because I could easily knife into the lane and get nice position for a rebound...then kick it out for a three.

Never really thought about the offensive rebounding by guards thing.

Oh, so we are not good enough for him? Screw him then.

Aim higher, as in Indiana? The team who didn't even get an NIT invite?

If he wants to go to a blue blood there isn't much we can do. He'll just be another Tarik Black who transfers for his senior season to be overshadowed by someone else.

With the current trend in graduate transfers- I wonder if programs are going to stop redshirting players as much as the redshirt puts the school at risk in the player's most productive year....

that's what I meant.

Some of these kids are so pompous and arrogant they make me puke.

Well keep in mind that is according to Doogie, so there's a better chance that the opposite is true.

If I was a mid major I would certainly consider it.

ccording to ESPN's Jeff Goodman, Lee has already heard from 19 different schools, including Louisville, Ohio State, Florida, FSU, USC, Miami, Pitt, N.C. State, Iowa State, Illinois, Marquette, Indiana, Maryland, Iowa, Butler, Ole Miss, St. John's, Providence, Seton Hall and Arizona.

Doogie sounds like he's b.s.-ing

My money is on Iowa State. Getting a little tired of seeing Louisville on every one of these lists.

Fricken Iowa State will pounce on any transfer they can get. Can't Fred Hoiberg find any high school recruits to build into a winner or does he just have to raid the transfer market every single season? Seriously. Hoiberg has been building his team through transfers - the immediate eligibility variety more often than not - the past few years. Them and Oregon, it's like they can't find many good high school prospects so they have to wait to see if guys pan out in college and then start recruiting.

Do you understand how hard that is? I applaud him for doing it! Believe me, when I say that is part of what Pitino wants to do, at least for the first year or two. Hoiberg is really the first since Tark to do it. I admire it, as I am a huge Tark fan!

Whatever Fred is doing seems to be working.

"Whatever Fred is doing" wouldn't work at Minnesota. You don't bring in multiple guys who were shown the door at their previous school without multiple front page articles in a top 15-20 media market. Also, all of these guys don't miraculously stop having issues once they reach Minneapolis (or many other places) like they somehow find a way to do in Ames, Iowa. I hope Minnesota can bring in some transfers, and I hope we can take a chance on the occasional kid with a bad past, but the blueprint in Ames can't be followed in Minneapolis. It's too bad as the National media doesn't care, but the local media will. I don't blame Fred for working every angle he can to get talent to Ames, Iowa as it's the same method that Tim Floyd and Larry Eustachy used previously.

OSU Fan, Fred has been able to get a few very good high school kids in as well like Niang and Morris. The offense they run their is certainly a draw and they have a great home court advantage. The certainly wouldn't be in the place they are in now (at least not yet), without our own Royce White...the gift that keeps on giving.

Coaches are paid to win, and will take the players they need whether they are transfers or not, to win. Pitino or any coach is not worried about a couple of bad articles from the media. Once you start winning, suddenly these bad articles disappear.

Sure you have to weigh in the risks of what these players have done and what they could be capable of doing in the future. Who's to say many high school kids don't have the same problems as some of these transfers, they just haven't risen to the surface yet?

Bottom line is that coaches are paid to win and most of the time they will take talented players however they can get them. If you want to run a squeaky clean program and lose, hire Dan Monson.
