Taking a knee at Iowa.

I'm a veteran.

I also believe you can do what you want.

Spit on the flag, piss on it, I believe the Supreme Court even exonerated people for burning it.

Point is, I was part of a fighting force dedicated to defending the right of Americans to express their opinions. You know, Freedom of Speech.

You don't have to agree with it.

But you can't stop it.

And you should respect it.

I do.
Thank you for your service. Much appreciated.

So many dont understand nor appreciate the true sacrifice made by america's Veterans. Sooooo incredibly easy to dismiss the flag and all it stands for.

Examples of those folks here on GH are nearly endless.

This doesn't support your point. He literally said he believes people can do what they want.

People can do what they want sure, it's in the constitution, but people these days really only think about themselves or do something like support social injustice reform because it's the trendy thing to do. It will garner more likes on Instagram, etc. The ME generation at its finest. I don't really see what kneeling accomplishes besides lowering the television ratings. Where are the real activists these days like MLK and Malcom X? They don't exist. I don't think kneeling because you hate Trump, or because that will be the solution to ending racism is a valid point, in my opinion. I laugh at these people for doing it honestly.

And, for those of you who say this whole movement is not politically motivated. You are wrong. I remember the first televised Gopher basketball game this season. They had a 5 minute segment on how the team decided to go out and vote for change. It was all a narrative thinking that unity also involves canceling Trump out of this culture. It all ties in and goes back to trying to eliminate Trump. They were successful. I am sure the boosters wrote them up a nice proposal to go out and do this as a team. LOL.

I was going to tune out the rest of the season after that, but I chose not to. I love basketball too much to care about what some college kids think about politics.

I am also on board to finding a better solution to minimize racism and for social justice reform.
It may piss off more people than it causes to pause, think and have a discussion but at the very least it is making teams of young people closer and more aware of issues. No downside in that. Never understood playing the anthem before games anyway. Does not bother me but what is the purpose ? If one was to believe that it was to unite or honor the military it sure is not working now. Like the pledge of allegiance, what was the point ? Interesting and confusing times.

Throwing away "old school" things like the Pledge and Anthem are exactly what is causing division, among other things.

You’re right there are no more MLK’s but there’s a lot of Malcolm X’s. Violence, intimidation and separatists.

Sure, as long as they are going out and finding the truth for themselves, just not what they are being told.

Even more important for our country is taking steps now to quash the marxist, socialistic movement that is taking over so much of society. The USA was formed to break free from those chains.
LOL.
I guess I shouldn't be surprised to see such idiocy from someone who thinks the USA was formed to break free from the chains of "the Marxist socialist movement," and yet I am.

King George would have been pretty surprised to hear you describe him as a Marxist. Let's ignore the king's politics...Marx hadnt been born yet when the USA was formed.

I am a teacher. This whole myth is such a joke. Stick to sharing your basketball expertise...
Did not say all teachers. Have two profs and 4 teachers in my family and they are talking about it all the time. Did not form that opinion on some main stream news source. Based on oersonal experiences with people in academia including coaches, professors, administrators.

Oh wow. You're mad because our basketball players expressed their interest and the importance of voting?!?! All people should be voting.

This is exactly why the Trump crowd is so upset about all the VOTE messaging in sports and pop culture. They know that more young black people voting is very bad for Trump. Your complaints really are no different than the voting obstacles they put in place to try to stop blacks in the South from voting in the 60s.

Ridiculous. Really sad too.

So you are saying you are okay with groups like the proud boys and oath keepers but you are upset that Trump has been removed from Twitter, a private company that has rules for anyone that joins it?

Unfortunately....there are people who think these things. Very unfortunate.

I consider myself to be a pretty patriotic guy who loves America. With all of our issues, still the best country to live in. I'm also not offended by people who kneel during the anthem as a way to call attention to some of the problems we have in this country. I know the kneeling has no more to do with disrespecting the flag than your Dr. telling you to lose some weight for your health being just an excuse to insult you by calling you fat.

Well said. The people who are "offended" by players kneeling during the anthem are simply virtue signaling. Same people think it's good and right to fly the confederate flag in place of the American flag.

Can't make this stuff up.

I really wish these ignorant morons would in fact choose to stop being Gopher fans. I hope the team continues to kneel and these victims can go find something else to support.

Jk. Actually I don’t have a problem with most teachers. The issue is the curriculum. BS is put in with a little bit of resistance, but eventually becomes the norm. History is edited daily to fit the culture and real history is lost.

One of the best things that ever happened to me and our children and their children was surrounding ourselves with people across the political spectrum, across the diversity spectrum, great listeners of opposing ideas with a goal of continual growth. Parents provided the merit based ideal. Far from perfect but they had a plan before we were born and followed it. In working with so many kids without a strong home and parents and mentors the challenges are significant.
