Coming up next week.

It's fun to look back at the champions......especially 1970 and before when there was one class. Many small school champions in the one class days.

Last one(1970) won by Sherburn.

Maybe I've been away for too long, but since when did they have the girl's tourney after the boy's? Do they rotate every year now?

Can't help ya. Haven't watched one since Janet Karvonen.

Hoping to watch Carlie Wagner this year though.

This is the first year it has happened that I know of, I think it had something to do with facility availability or something.

I think it's because of the NCHC Frozen Faceoff is at Target Center and they were able to move the girls tournament to Mariucci & Williams for semifinals and finals. They signed a 5 year deal so this could be happening the next few years too. Might affect WNIT/NIT home games though.

State Basketball Tourney...

Not quite the same as the 1 Class tournament, but in 1972 St James (A winner) beat Mounds View (AA winner) in a playoff after the two tournaments...

Can't help but think that Mounds View in 72 was just happy to win the AA title vs Austin. Then against St James - the energy wasn't there.

Target Center not avail. next week due to college hockey. Williams not avail. at certain times due to potential for NIT/WNIT games.

They could still do the girls first, and the girls would get to be at Target Center. But instead they decided that the boys should play at Target Center and the girls would lose out on that, but they had to change the order to do that, so they changed the order. I think that's right, that it will stay like this for 5 years.

If Cretin can beat Apple Valley, then who says a small school couldn't still win it all?

Turn on 45 right now. Hopkins is just holding the ball for minutes on end because Shakopee refuses to come out of their zone. 2 points for each team in the last 12 minutes or so. No shot clock.

And they don't even get a shot off after holding the ball for four minutes. This is just bad coaching. When you have guys like Chambers and Coffey you shouldn't need to resort to this.

Watched the last 2 minutes of regulation and both the OTs and this is a perfect example of why we need a shot clock. I'm not gonna blame Hopkins because if Shakopee is gonna sit back in a zone and let them and their is no shot clock then it is smart to do. The blame goes on the MSHSL and you gotta think this will cause them to take a hard look at the shot clock issue.

Thanks for the heads up. 41-41 at the end of regulation.....now 41-41 heading into triple overtime. Woah.

Why do we need a shot clock? Because teams aren't scoring enough or because you aren't entertained? How does a shot clock make high school basketball better?

Hopkins held the ball for 2 overtimes straight and took the last shot. They haven't scored a point for 15+ minutes but they're down by 3 with 2 minutes left in triple OT

So teams are forced to actually play basketball and run offense rather than hold the ball for 3 1/2 minutes because a team is sitting in a zone and they want the last shot. Also probably makes the adjustment to the college game a little easier if you have already been playing with a shot clock too.

College game is irrelevant, there are how many high school basketball players in the state of Minnesota? How many play college basketball? Mshsl does not exist to make sure that tiny percentage is better prepared for college basketball.

Basketball is a game of strategy, holding the ball is a winning strategy. Running offense and scoring a ton of points doesn't make the game better. It doesn't make it worse either, I just want to hear a rational argument about Minnesota getting a shot clock that will help the entire state get better at basketball. I don't care if a bunch of recently graduated or middle aged men aren't entertained, that's not important

Because it's definitely fair to the fans and players to have one shot every overtime...

Holy FFFFFFF....half court shot for Hopkins win.

Refs not counting it?????

Nevermind: Dave Lee exclaims its not going to count instead of theyre going to replay. Shock.
