Star Tribune's Rayno adds her own story to Teague scandal

Shutter-island-eyes-wide-shut-500.jpg

When I open my eyes, we will be back to talking about basketball/football and none of this ever happened.... Right?!?!?!?!?

Also, GopherLady, can we implement a tagging system so I can remember who's a misogynist bigot and who isn't.

Don't say no, just look into it.

Shaming the victim!

Wow! What the hell are you trying to say? My comments to you have never been about Teague or what he did. It is about you an only you and your need to get attention. There are real victims out there but you are not one of them! If you have something to say about Teague say it but stop playing games.

Just hope people don't start talking about some of the other atrocities since NT has been here...

There's a saying in my line of work...tell people about something beforehand, you are a genius. Tell them after the fact, you are a quack.

As far as I know, I am the only one that used the term horny. I hope like hell you are not referring to me.

I will give you the benefit of the doubt and wait for your response before I finish what I was about to say.

Ha, you give me too much credit if you really think I keep track of who posts what especially on a topic like this one where there are multiple threads with countless posts (I’m self-diagnosed with CRS as confirmed by my wife). So no, I was not referring specially to you. It was an interpretation I garnered after reading some posts that seemed to imply certain things. I don’t know what you said but just so we’re clear, I have nothing against horny people as this is somewhat of subjective term which in my book probably applies to anyone, especially males, under of the age of 90 or so ;-)

BTW station, despite my CRS condition I do recognize that you post here quite a bit and seem to recall you being well balanced and reasonable. I only say that because I usually don’t mix it up much one-on-one but felt you deserved a response given the nature of your question. As you probably know, I am more of one of those annoying “hit-and-run” kinda posters who really doesn’t engage much in personal conversations. Just don’t get me started on PSU (Pedophile State University) and that whole Sandusky thing!

I think it took a lot of guts for Ms. Rayno to share her story. Even waiting until the other women came forward still probably is risky for her career. She has to worry now if any male sources she talks to will consciously or unconsciously think "avoid her, I don't want to make a wrong move and be labeled a creep like teague" which is really sad. This whole situation sucks for so many people; the victims, the AD employees that might lose their jobs now when a new AD brings in his/her "people", the U employees/coaches/players that had nothing to do with any of this, and least of all the fans. I hope the victims get all the support and help they need and deserve.

The nastiness and stupidity of some of the comments (I am largely speaking outside of GopherHole) from annonymous jerks suffering from a case of "Internet Balls" shows exactly why she had every reason to be hesitant. I agree that sharing her story took a lot of guts.

like it or not - we have only heard her side.

Since the awful Souhan article a couple years ago, I've boycotted strib clicks (like many others on GH) so I won't read Rayno's article. From reading the posts in this thread it appears a strib reporter has written a story with the sole purpose of piling on. Teague is gone. Whether or not Rayno -- or any number of other women coming forward -- had some awful experience serves no purpose, except in this case to capitalize on the sensationalism of an exposed scandal.

It's no surprise that you defend your employer, but I clearly stated why I wouldn't click on the story. I read excerpts. So? You saying my comments are "off base," doesn't make it so. You certainly haven't stated the value of more dirty stories.

I would also like this feature...I think we need to come up with this technology.

Thanks you for responding.

Someone mentioned Teague was using his power, and I replied with 'he was horny and drunk'. In no way was I dismissing his actions.

It struck a nerve and I wanted to make sure I was not misunderstood.

Thanks again for responding.

i took the unpopular opinion of demanding the other side of a story that apparently has no other side. I am more of an animal than i am a man.

IALTO!

Thanks for sharing your insights. Unfortunately, a few GHs seem to dismiss Teague as some horny, old drunk. There is a lot more to this demented individual. As I noted in a previous post, this is about someone trying use their power and influence to psychologically manipulate his victims. I'm not suggesting Teague is a rapist but to illustrate my point, rape is not about sex, it is about someone trying to use physical and psychological control over another individual. When someone like Teague harasses a woman the way he did, I can't imagine the fear it must create for that individual. We should not question the actions or, if you will, the inactions of the victims. We should question Teague and anyone who knew of or worse may have enabled his behavior (I'm really hoping no one enabled him). Again, thank you for sharing your perspective.

+1. Reminds me of President Clinton's actions.

How dense are you? Teague gave his side. He said he got drunk and sent inappropriate messages. Then he willingly resigned. What more is there to his story? WTF are you expecting to hear?

For a guy that has "no offense" as his sig line, you sure have a thin skin.

And not just this post BTW.

Exactly

When he went that quickly and easily, I predicted it was just the tip of the iceberg.
As a woman I can say that being sexually harassed on the job is horrible and not the least bit flattering. Every man I've run across who behaves like this is not discerning - its rarely 'personal'. You just do everything you can to avoid them which can certainly affect a career. That he would target Amelia is not surprising - not because of her appearance but because his power in the situation and her vulnerability that created some 'safety' for him.
Good riddance!

I respect her decision to not being it forward but by doing so makes sexual harassment seem tolerable or even acceptable. The star Tribune should have brought it if she wouldn't.

Typical jackass comment by you. Ya, a fictional bartender on TV is just like someone in one of the most visible and powerful positions at the U. What's even more pathetic is that you think you're so clever and daring when you are anything but.

Did posting that make you feel better?

Lol - this is shocking, you're spouting off about more things you don't know about. You do realize the Strib isn't my employer, right? I own my own company and am in social media.

Facts make it so.

The value of "dirty" stories? I'm guessing you mean more women coming out...
1. To make sure Teague isn't able to do this to another woman, ever. Or he won't be able to get away with it. Before Amelia's story, most thought it was just a drunken night, not a man that had a pattern of sexually harassing women.
2. So the victims can have their peace. If there are others, they have been holding this in...they probably feel shameful, like they did something wrong, and have this secret. This is a way of moving forward.
3. Because it's the right thing to do.

Hi Nadine.

I do realize you own your own business. I recall reading something when I first joined this site that indicated you were affiliated with the Star Tribune in some capacity, as an intern, stringer, or contributor. If I misunderstood or remember incorrectly, or if that affiliation has changed, I apologize for that mistake.

But, your reaction seems typical of a mindset that defends the institution because you belong, and our definition of “facts” seems to differ.

The perceived moral and civic responsibility of the media has changed in my lifetime. No longer are they champions of our cause, and watch-dogs for our best interests. It has become a scummy, for-profit-first industry. You and others have attacked me for asking questions. And I remain firm in my right to ask them.

What purpose is being served by “more women coming out”? According to you, that will ensure Teague “isn't able to do this to another woman, ever.” While it may be your opinion, it cannot be stated as fact. As far as preventing him from “getting away with it,” he already didn’t. And, your statement that “most” subscribed to some belief is also unsubstantiated.

It sounds like your belief is if it helps them heal, or move on, gain peace, or any number of positive things you or they or anyone can list, there is potential value in “coming out.” In today’s world there are plenty of avenues for that, as well as a whole industry of professionals to assist that process.

I also believe you’re saying the more stories like this we publish, read and hear about, the less likely he will ever do something like this again, so there’s value in us reading about and hearing as many dirty stories as possible. I disagree that permeating our society with filth improves our environment. I have to admit to being enticed into reading or viewing the crap. It didn’t make my life better. It didn’t do anything to prevent it from happening again.

Whomever appointed you as the decision-maker for “the right thing to do” was misguided.

Our lives are not made better by hearing as many awful things as we can. They are most definitely made worse. Should we all bury our heads? No. But, we ALL shouldn’t watch and listen to the filth. It doesn’t make things better for a victim. They’ve had their misfortune and there are plenty of things in place to help. I don’t subscribe to the supposed benefit of children hearing all the evil things so they won’t be victims. Amelia wasn’t a child. She almost certainly could have read plenty of stories from persons in similar predicaments. She apparently went to her employer’s HR dept. and it seems like the Star Tribune dropped the ball until an opportunity arose to capitalize.

Did she get paid for her story? If so, then my issue is with the system that profits from sharing her misfortune with the public. It’s not that she got paid, since in some way that could be viewed as some justice. But, it seems to me that it doesn’t accomplish all the things you claim.

While I can sympathize with her, it also appears Teague has admitted his mistake and has been punished with a major career impact. Many posters here got a taste of blood and want more. I just don’t subscribe to that mindset. Teague said he is seeking help. Perhaps forgiveness. As a Christian, I’m asked to forgive. Piling on with lots more “coming out” stories just feeds this country’s desire for filth.

I understand that these views aren’t popular on this site, where mostly anonymous posters spew daily garbage. I’m here to read about Gopher football, and there are plenty of regular posters here I appreciate greatly for their knowledge, insight and information.

Aparently, it is complicated.

Boom. Done.

Next batterer. I mean batter.

When someone posts something of this nature I usually like to take the time to thoughtfully go through it point by point and respectfully refute each one. In this case, and with all due respect, all I can say is what a load of crap!

Thanks. I guess you are for tolerating and perpetuating that behavior too. Things like this won't change unless people quit putting up with it. Not bringing the allegation forward did a disservice to victims of sexual harassment everywhere.

Who is this responding to? Just curious.
