Source tells Chad Hartman that Flip Saunders has now emerged as the leading candidate

I love Amelia questioning Chad Hartman.

My guess. . .neither is plugged into anything, but Amelia is lost. Didn't she argue Buzz Williams was realistic?

Amelia also is a fervent believer in Bigfoot. Based on that one could argue that she is easily fooled.

Another Flip selling point...

"I took Kevin Garnett from a raw high school talent to the NBA MVP and the biggest contract in NBA history at the time"

She should just post wild, unsubstantiated rumors like Doogie

I think Doogie's are probably more substantiated, not by reality of course. Doogie gets something fed to him by agents and he runs with it, then doesn't have the intelligence or self respect to realize when he's been played.

Amelia just kind of makes stuff up, posts hunches, it's all so cute.

In what context does she believe in Bigfoot? Does she believe that there might be a bipedal ape somewhere in the Alaska and the American-Canadin Northwest?

Or does she believe in Bigfoot like the people on TV believe in Bigfoot?

As far as I can tell, Amelia has absolutely zero sources/connections. Not really ripping her since she's new to the scene, but I get the feeling she just reads stuff on the internet like us.

Whether you like Flip as a candidate or not, if this is true I have a lot of respect for Teague and Ellis and their evident flexibility in departing from their pet program when they judge it makes sense to do so.

I'll give him that. I've always said that Teague needs to hire the guy he thinks will help this program the most. If he is willing to divert from the Villa 7, that shows he's not so married to that program that he won't diverge.

Like the Bigfoothunters on tv.

Yeah. Amelia doesn't bother me as much as people like Doogie. Doogie legitimately thinks he's plugged in and then is trying to go about his job at 1500 in a Reussian like fashion. I hope journalists like that go down in flames. I think Amelia is not plugged in and she's trying to keep up.

Ha. I did not know that. That sort of fits with my perception of her. I always think of the people who get sucked into Bigfoot or Ancient Aliens as the kinds of people who just believe whatever youtube docmentary they'v most recently watched.

This explains the Buzz Williams nonsense.

Get 'er done Teague!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

FWIW, former players love Flip. They've been begging for him on twitter. I think Tyus and Vaughn and others like him as well.

Not sure he can coach college kids, but it appears as if people in this state like him. Good for recruiting MN, not sure how well he is perceived nationally.

I'd be fine with Flip though. The age does concern me, but all things considered, works for me. I am renewing tickets regardless.

Wouldn't hate the hire though and would be excited for sure.

I've come around to supporting Flip as the new coach. But, I think he'd need to find a couple of strong assistants with a lot of recruiting connections outside of Minnesota to be successful.

No recruiting experience, but how about KG? ;)

I'm one of those people who thinks Flip would be a better college coach than an NBA coach. He's done well with young players, including his stellar stint winning CBA championships.

Common Man Dan Cole says Flip is the Man and will be announced soon

Just said it a few minutes ago on his show.

I tend to believe the Flip steam, the guys at KFAN have a good relationship with Flip. Plus Chad Hartman is friends with the KFAN crew as he worked there for a long time, I'm sure they still talk to Chad Hartman.

Understand what you're saying but is it possible that this is an indication that they are settling? Teague and Ellis couldn't get done something else because of the facilities situation?

Not a knock on Filp at all just asking a question.

I'm just not sure as he hasn't done it in so long. The Wizards were awful. It is just a question mark. Every coach has question marks though. It is either can Flip coach down a level or can "insert mid major coach here" coach up a level? Not exactly the same, but you get my point. Every coach has questions.

Who knows.

If this is true, hopefully it energizes the boosters enough to fast track a facility and any other upgrades we need. Then when Flip is done we stand a better shot at a young up and comer. I'm only 27, I can wait for the next coaching hire to be "The One." Haha

Here's Flip's story to potential recruits:

- I've been a coach forever, and I know basketball.
- I love the U of MN and I'm an alum.
- I know EVERYONE in the NBA.
- I know what it takes to get to the NBA and stay.

What kid would not want to hear that? I'd be more than happy with Flip as the coach.

Chad and Danny B have a source? Hmmm, wonder who it could be? Flip isn’t my first choice, but I definitely think the hire could work out well. I agree these are his strengths. I hope they use the V7 connections to set up a top notch staff. Flip is certainly well connected in some circles, but he hasn’t recruited in a long time and will need experienced college recruiters with ties elsewhere, not just Ryan, JB Bickerstaff, Trent Tucker, or some of the other names suggested by some.

I can easily see that hiring Flip will be an instant boost to season ticket sales.

I totally agree. I have always loved Flip's coaching style and my only complaint was that he was slow to adjust on offense to what the D was doing.

Which may be why they are hiring Flip partially. From all accounts, the big donors love him.

Hire Flip, get facilities, etc. and in 5-6 years hire a Villa 7 or whoever else as the position is much more attractive.

I could see the donors saying we will pony up if you hire Shaka, Stevens or Hoiberg. Otherwise, Flip.

I think NT and Ellis also would make sure the basketball aspect makes sense as well. It's not like we'd be hiring Hoffarber here (no offense intended)

I compare this coaching search to the dating scene. Flip as a candidate strikes me as the "marrying kind". Madly in love with the U, ready to stick it out through good times and bad. A lot of the other candidates may eventually fall for the U, but right now it looks like they're just out for a piece of tail.

His only good NBA teams were ALL veterans. He was not known as a guy in the NBA who developed younger players. He didn't have the chance in MN (the Joe Smith fiasco), he took a veteran team in Detroit, and Washington was a disaster.

He might have worked wonders in the CBA and at GOlden Valley Lutheran.

You mean like when the other team switches from man to 1-3-1?

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!

Same here ... 24 lol

Are you comparing Flip to a chick who is crazy but does fun stuff in the bedroom so you stay with her for a little while before finding the one? And then you're more experienced in bed (better facilities) and better prepared to attract "The One". Makes sense to me.

Flip would be a great hire. I like that Teague tried to get some high profile guys but now Flip can ride in on his white horse and save the day.

The guy still has a passion for the game of basketball, is well liked by former players and gets along great with the media. I think he can take Minnesota basketball to the next level. He is a guy that can energize the program and make some things like a practice facility a reality.
