So what’s next? What Bowl Game we thinking?

Iowa laid a big fat goose egg in last year’s Citrus Bowl and that game last night against Nebby was about as sexy as Jocelyn Wildenstein is today. How could any bowl want that - aren’t the TV eyes as important as the traveling fan base? Who other than Ioweigens or those who HATE Iowa would watch their game?
This is a point that also makes me think something strange could happen like Nebraska, Minnesota, or Michigan jumping into Reliaquest

Would be most likely Michigan as Iowa has wins over other two and a better record

Obviously anything can happen — and we’ve seen that PLENTY as MN fans — but the B1G has tried REALLY hard to avoid repeat bowl appearances since changing their placement system in 2013-2014. Because of that, I just see no way MN or Rutgers ends up in NYC when helmet schools Michigan and Nebraska have never played there. I’d pencil in one of those teams for sure. Illinois hasn’t been to Orlando forever, and ditto Iowa to Tampa so those are almost a lock in my mind. That leaves Minnesota, Rutgers, and one of Mich/Neb for Music City, Mayo, and Phoenix. Total crapshoot, but the fact MN played in Phoenix during this cycle while the other two haven’t makes me think it’s likely off the table. I’m gonna stick with my guess from last night barring mayhem today:

Music City: Minnesota
Pinstripe: Michigan
Mayo: Rutgers
Rate: Nebraska

This also wouldn’t shock me:

Music City: Michigan
Pinstripe: Nebraska
Mayo: Minnesota
Rate: Rutgers

The Big Ten’s bowl games are a steaming pile of shit. It’s time to blow it up and re-do the whole thing.

How did we add 6 teams over the last decade and get significantly worse bowl games than > decade ago. 🤣

Wonder if that means they get the Music City now, and lock us into the Mayo?

Is the Music City considered "better" than the Mayo, or are they "equal" for the Big Ten?
Pretty sure the Music City Bowl has a higher payout, not sure if that is the qualifier for "better"

They're similar but I'd say public perception is that Music City is a better bowl. And in a much more desirable locale, with a likely higher profile opponent.

Good point on the payout, still Mayo is not bad. $4.7M vs $5.7M

Music City is always Big Ten vs SEC, while Mayo rotates Big Ten (even years) and SEC (odd years) vs the ACC.

(Got this info from Wikipedia, assume it is accurate)

No thank you. Don’t need to rehash the Jerry Kill crap yet again. Plus they don’t have the prestige of other sec schools even if they are solid this year.
Yeah, they are just another private school with a small fanbase.

I think Illinois will go the Citrus, Iowa will go to the Reliaquest, and Michigan will go to the Music City. Rutgers will beat Mich State and finish 7-5 with a win over Minnesota. Rutgers was in the Pinstripe Bowl last season so they won't go there. I'd say Minnesota and Rutgers will each take one of the Rate and Mayo.

Please not the No Rate Bowl. Gophers have been there the most of any team. That would be so Gophers like - because of their loss to Rutgers they end up in a crappy baseball stadium.

They going to redo them once the contracts end I’m sure

I could honestly see Michigan jumping all the way up to the Citrus with that win today (remember 7-5 PSU in Tampa a couple years back?), but I still think you see Illinois and Iowa in Florida. Then you’ll almost certainly get Mich in the Music City now. And if the B1G wants to avoid repeat bowl appearances after that, here’s what we’ll see:

Music City: Michigan
Pinstripe: Nebraska
Mayo: Minnesota
Rate: Rutgers

Looking at the non-Big 10 Bowls there are several that are equally crappy or worse. Lots.

Beyond the CFP Bowls now, pretty slim pickings.

The Michigan win probably removes us from Music City, although I think that was the case to begin with. Really hope we can get the Mayo bowl although I'm bit more nervous with the way today's games played out and losing to Rutgers. Got a weird feeling we will be back in Phoenix or NYC
