I too am curiousIn reading past years' bowl selection writeups for the BG10, the conference groups teams by similar rankings and records which usually means 1 game +/- cushion in overall record; meaning an 8-4 team could jump a 9-3 team for a higher rated bowl. Bowls don't care about conference seeding criteria like conference record or head to head results. This is how a 7-5 (4-5 BG10) Penn State jumped the 8-4 (6-3 BG10) Gophers in 2021 for the Outback Bowl. The BG10 tries not to allow a 2-game spread in bowl rating selection.
I wonder how much player announcements on bowl participation might impact selections. E.g., could Brosmer announcing he'll play in the bowl give the Gophs a better chance over team that has a top player skipping the bowl?
Iowa obviously should go ahead of Minnesota but if their RB isn’t playing and our QB is I wonder if they may take that into account.
I think Iowa for sure gets passed by Michigan. Maybe some others
