"Simulating brandishing a weapon" penalty

The funniest part about this is the penalty is created because they don’t want people publicly “brandishing a weapon” because of the bad PR it creates

But calling a penalty on something so subtle ensures everyone saw the action the penalty was designed to stop people from seeing.

I was wondering this as well, I believe I've seen other college players simulating a bow & arrow.

On the new NCAA college football game, you have the option to celebrate after you score a TD. One of the default celebrations is the player simulating pulling an arrow of his back, then firing it into the crowd.
 

I think it's tied to the cultural implications of glorifying firearms generally. Regardless of your political/social stance, there are a lot of lives lost to guns whether through violence (particularly acts of mass violence which have sadly become more and more normalized) or suicide on a yearly basis in this country and its tasteless and embarrassing for young black males in particular to be doing this stuff on the field. We still hear about college players getting killed by firearms on a yearly basis and a lot of these kids come from environments where gun possession pushes a BS narrative where you're tough/intimidating/powerful if you carry. It has no place on the football field.
 



It reminded me of McCringleberry's TD celebration. Turned into a shooting gallery, clearly exceeding the 2 pump limit.

"PJ is giving the ref an earful on the sideline, arguing the US is a non-signatory to the Convention, and I think he has a case..."

And proper fair catch signal resembles “Seig Heil” and the cultural implications of white boys executing it are frightening. Politics aside of course.

Take it to the political thread. Nobody here is saying the rule is wrong just that it was misapplied here.

Were I the ref I might well have overlooked it . . . But a senior leader has to know better than to even give them the chance to call it. You have to think the coaches have mentioned it to them given the emphasis on it this year.

Apparently I’m out of the loop. I would have never guessed what Walley did was “brandishing a weapon”.

What about all the cornerbacks that pretend to put their sword back in its sheath? You see that one all the time and I’ve never seen a penalty. That one they are actually to hold a weapon.

I guess a sledgehammer isn't a weapon. The Vikes have done a celebration with it a few times without issue.

I could honestly read PJ's lips when he was yelling at the ref. I'm pretty sure he said "everyone in the country is doing it". I've seen several instances of it where no penalty was called. I really thought they were just revealing their abs to show how ripped they were. Now that I've learned it's brandishing a weapon, I'm glad it's a penalty, and Walley deserves a serious talking to by PJ. I always hoped our athletes were fine upstanding kids. Naive, I know. I detest thug, gangster, culture. It depresses me. I wish it was cool to reject all that shit.

Assuming this is true this needs to be consistently applied immediately by all officials. Period.

A "penalty" on Minnesota has already changed how officials situate themselves for onside kicks for the B1G+. Maybe time for this to happen again for this "penalty."

Oh Timmy... We beat the #11 team in the country and instead of jumping in on the excitement and positivity by posting on any of the dozen threads about the game, you gravitate immediately to the one contraversial-ish thread you can try to police the opinions of others in. If you're going to try to troll professionally, you need to learn how to fake it better - right now you're as obvious as a compound fracture. But that's not how your type works, is it?
