seriously, wtf has happened to Rodney Williams?

if he 'whines and argues' he gets ripped for whining and arguing.. if he doesn't, he gets ripped for having no passion.

'rodney somehow figured out how to play in the NIT'.. do you even watch these games? do you even understand the difference between playing against a physical wisky team at kohl vs a soft Washington team in the NIT?

maybe there were no driving lanes... maybe wisky boxed out a bit on the glass... maybe rodney stopped shooting after 0-6 deferring to his teammates.. why is everyone ripping on the guy?? halfcout O against wisky is absolutely the wrong game for him.. why question his heart? why say he quit? quit???

What are you being an apologist? Do you think Wisconsin’s defense is so good he should only score 2 points? Washington had 2 players that are getting significant time in the NBA right now I wouldn't call them soft by any stretch. Wroten Jr. and Terrence Ross, both great players. And yes I watched all of the NIT games, Rodney stepped up and was scoring around 20 points a game, and he was hitting 3’s. No one is questioning his heart, it’s his attitude that team seems to take after. He is their senior leader and they need more from him, that’s all.

The NIT games were low-pressure and with virtually no expectations. This year, he's gotten tighter and tighter and as the stakes have gotten bigger as we got into the heart of Big Ten play and fighting for a top 10 ranking. Rodney seems like the kind of player who can't handle the pressure. That was certainly the case Saturday and has been since the Big Ten play started.

yes. wisky's D is that good. Bo's pre-game plan is to win the game 1-0.. anything less is a defensive failure.

Ross/Wroten were not that impressive.. and didn't play D like wisky.. they were just looking for highlight reel plays on O.

rodney stepped up because he had to.. they had no proven leader.. fast-forward to now... the team leaders are Andre on the outside and Trevor down low.. AND like i have said, the lane was open because trevor wasn't clogging the lane.

'no one has questioned his heart'?? guys that say he has 'quit' are questioning his heart.

no one has torched rodney on D... so stop with this 'quitter' talk.. if he has quit, his assignment on D would be lighting it up.

I think a big issue with many of the people blaming Tubs for players not getting better is they never had a high celing to begin with. A top 100 player is not a program changer, and good teams often have multiple ones. I would say the Hoff, Rodney, Sampson, and many of the current players are better than when they came to campus, but none of them had the high end potential many people thought. You could argue the Voshon Lenard regressed his senior year, is that on Clem Haskins? Willie Burton had better numbers his junior year as well. I really think the issue is that not enough top end players are entering the program.

Rodney needs to buck up but I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt over a coach who makes $2 mil per and has a ring. Tubster should know better. At this point, Tubby helps himself the most by saying nothing if it isn't positive. Keep your mouth shut, don't allow any more camera's in the locker room, etc. His pregame speech at NW (whiteboard strategy lesson w/ 2 hand claps) followed by his comments about not having the guys available on the 2nd team to properly duplicate the 1-3-1 in practice all week after losing is priceless.

Our second team is as athletic as NW team. So it wasn't that they couldn't physically do it, it was that the coaches couldn't get them to understand the nuances of it. Maybe the gophers should run it themselves. It's a good part time defense to throw out after timeouts and sometimes its good to up the tempo?

He is playing with a lot of confidence. I will say that it does make a big difference playing against players who are not as good though...

Nebraska does not have a lot of good front court players. The one dude looks like he ate Mo Walker.

So now all of you who said all that stuff about Rodney can shut up now. It's Nebraska but I think he's got his swag back. Just was going through a slump like I mentioned earlier in the thread.

Like I've said for 3 years, he's great against weaker competition & fades against top end/physical competition. His psyche is fragile & he loses/gains confidence game by game. Very good 3rd-4th best player (which is what he is), but not team Captain material imo.

I agreed to a certain extent. Rodney is a bully. He destroys lesser talent. Went challenged he shrinks a bit. Let's see if he can step up against elite talent.

He played very well against Duke and MSU. He's proven he can produce against elite talent, he just needs to be a little more consistent. I have faith that this was just a slump and he will finish the season strong.

I was very impressed with how he played tonight, though I wasn't really surprised. He needs to carry tonight's intensity and aggresision into Sunday vs Iowa. We need this version of Rodney to stay the course and refine little things along the way.

Time will certainly tell.

Simply not true. Look at his game logs over the past two years. He just has stretches, like most players.

Like a deck of cards...he collapses under pressure...

He reminds me of Wes Johnson...tons of athletic talent...but an emotional rollercoaster. Great to see him when he's at the top of the coaster coming down, but brutal when he's at the bottom of that run.

Anyone have facts to back these claims up?? IIRC, Rodney has played well against some good teams, (ie UNC, MSU) and poorly, on occasion, against bad some teams. Seems to be more of an issue of lack of consistent focus and not so much a matter of competition.

Hence my analogy to a rollercoaster.
