Mr. Kelly, you had some nice playing days. That doesn't mean you are qualified to say who the football coach should be going forward, much less who the AD should be. If you have issues, take them up with President Bruininks or Dr. Kaler.

This group disgusts me. The right approach would have been to go to Bruininks with concerns. Even then, the web site and strib ads were relatively harmless. But to start contacting other schools whose coaches we might be interested and apologizing in advance is completely out of line and directly interfering with the search.

This group has to be stopped somehow. I strongly suggest people e-mail them directly and voice their complaints to [email protected].

I agree. Honestly, who really knows how Maturi is going about this. Every time we read he is suppose to have interviewed someone, we are told he has not. Think about it a little.

We can bring up Maturi's faults, but it is what it is, the guy is going to try and correct his last mistake. You clowns pulling this BS like sending out emails to other Universities is just plain embarrassing to yourselves and Gopher football. Do all Gopher fans a favor and just shut the fuc& up.

I sent a very similar email as they are completely out of line.

Sorry for the all caps, but I hate this kind of "I had a small role for the Gophers for a couple of years, a couple of decades ago, so I'm an expert" kind of entitlement theory. If Adam wanted to be an Athletic Director, he should have went to college to become one. Instead, go sell insurance. Leave the adult table alone. Go back to the sandbox.

COULD NOT AGREE MORE! Pathetic petulent children. Mr. Kelly- If you want to know why you and your pathetic group are not included? Look at your actions- absolutely disgraceful. EVERY NAME associated with that group should be apologizing for their deceit and dishonesty. Shame on each of you for sabotaging the good of the program in this way in order to push your own selfish agenda. Your actions speak volumes about your moral character.

If this group is hoping to support Gopher football, do they really think that Golden or any other HC will be impressed that a group of former players would take this action, be so damn divisive and act so unprofessionally? Not a single HC will be impressed with this pathetic display of activity.

Hah - thanks. And I HATE caps lock, but these a-holes are ridiculous.

If Adam Kelly wants to impact the coaching hire of a Big 10 school, he should have studied to become an athletic director when he got his free education from the state of Minnesota.
 

I wonder if their goal is to sabotage all the final candidates, so only Mark Trestman is standing.

we just fired our previous coach and are searching for a new one. we're in the process of trying to change the status quo. Explain to me how trying to sabotage our potential choices is changing the status quo?

There is no need to wonder- that is exactly their goal. They have one mission: install Marc Trestman. They have one method: brute force. They do not care who they hurt to get their way and clearly do not have the University's best interests in mind.
 

For once I actually agree with the majority on this forum. I think that Mr. Kelly was clearly out of line. I also think that the main issue here is that the good coaches out there do not want to work for Joel Maturi and do not trust the direction of our athletic department. I do not agree with some of savegopherfootball.com's methods, but their message is on point: we need to get some stability (who will the new AD be, what is Kaler's stance on football issues) before this HC job will be enticing to any decent coach. If you were a solid D1 head coach, would you want to go to a place where you didn't know who your boss would be next year and you had no idea if the new Pres. would support your program?

If I was offered a job for a more prestigious place in my line of work, with a raise, better tradition but I wasn't sure who my direct boss was going to be in a few months, I think I would still take it. I would absolutely take the job if it was a long enough contract with a decent buyout incase my new boss wanted to go in an entirely new direction.

The MN job isn't exactly ideal because of the fact that the new coach will have no idea who the new AD is going to be and other reasons. However, it is still a significant step up for the kind of coaches that have been deemed "realistic" (Golden, Hoke, Calhoun, Coach Ken, Kill, etc.).
 

The new AD issue is overblown considering the new coach will likely have a hand in the process of selecting the new AD should he be high profile enough.
