This group disgusts me. The right approach would have been to go to Bruininks with concerns. Even then, the web site and strib ads were relatively harmless. But to start contacting other schools whose coaches we might be interested and apologizing in advance is completely out of line and directly interfering with the search.

This group has to be stopped somehow. I strongly suggest people e-mail them directly and voice their complaints to [email protected].
 

I admit I have not been impressed with the way Maturi has conducted his last two football coach searches, but Mr. Kelly needs to look in the mirror as his actions are also an embarrasment to the U of M. His actioins are not going to help the search process at all.
 

Shameful act by Kelly. Keep your dirty laundry in house.

Wow, pretty incredible. We seem to do things as a program that have never been done before, and that's not a good thing.

this group is a joke, how can anyone take this seriously with how they have conducted themselves. They dont even have the official school colors on its website. just goes to show you that there were a lot of concussions back in the day.

Dear Mr. Kelly and Save Gopher Football Members,

As a Gopher football fan, I appreciate the fact that former players care about the future of the program. However, I have been disappointed in your tactics related to the coaching search. Your earlier actions were, in my opinion, misguided. But the Star Tribune article about your contacting Temple University officials related to the Gophers football coaching search has downright infuriated me.

When you put up the web site and took out the newspaper ad, I thought "Well that's dumb, they really should be talking to Bruininks or the Regents if they have concerns rather than going public." Now I think you may actually end up screwing up this process. That said, one could surmise that you actually wouldn't mind if this hiring process turned into a train wreck in order to satisfy what seems to be a personal vendetta against Mr. Maturi.

My suggestion: Shut your mouths and wait for the coach to be hired. Your current actions are doing absolutely no good. When the new U President comes in you'll get your chance to connect with him and express your concerns. At that point he can make the decision on the future of the athletic department's leadership.

+1. A bunch of malcontents. They want to criticize Maturi's tactics yet they do something like this? They deserve no more consideration and input in this hire than the many long-term loyal fans that have supported this program.

And by the way, with regards to SDSU, all Hoke would have had to say is, "not now, will talk later when the season is over." Rip Maturi, but it takes two to tango.
 

Is there any question now why Maturi has sent so many smoke screens out and has been so secretive on the process?

If this is how this group operates - good for Maturi for being as silent as possible.

Yep. I find it highly ironic that these people are turning rational fans into Maturi supporters, which is in direct conflict with the group's aims. Their tactics just totally turn me off and are completely out of line. Hopefully everyone involved in this process just ignores them. That would be the only suitable response.
 


Even if they were advocating the hire of Nick Saban, their tactics would be ridiculous. The fact that they are doing all of this because they think Marc Trestman deserves the job just makes it pathetic. Keep at it guys, you may just get what you want. A program where you are the only supporters left.

Why would anyone want Trestman as coach, he already quit on the gophers once

Mount Union ya say? Put down the crack pipe for a minute and get a grip. What are they, D3? Yeah, that doesn't exactly transfer to D1 at a Big Ten School that needs a full (brand new, 250 million dollar) stadium.

I love how a poster says that Maturi needs to be dismissed and then says the U should hire the coach from Mount Union or Wisconsin Whitewater! LOL. This is BIG TIME football, not little league. Who would he suggest replace Joel Mautri? The A.D. at the most successful middle school in the area?

Maturi's contact with Hoke was nothing out of the ordinary. AD's often don't know their head coach is leaving until the contract is ready to be signed.
 

Does this happen anywhere else? I mean, our M-Club is just ridiculous. It would be different if Adam Kelly were a former Heisman trophy winner, but he was the punter (All-Big 10 second team though, LOL).
 

Most of us do not trust Maturi, but making calls to other schools and trying to undermine the process makes everyone look bad.

I was a two year letterman in H.S. football (playing on the kickoff return team :eek:) and THAT alone entitles me to say "I KNOW FOOTBALL!" :rolleyes:

It seems to me that savegopherfootball.com is looking for any reason to criticize Maturi.

The fact that they would try to prevent us from getting Golden (With the hopes Maturi hires Trestman) is disgusting!

A punter and not someone whose name first comes to mind when Gophers' football is mentioned.

Nagurski, Nomellini, then maybe Adam Kelly.
