Roman Voss

I'd disagree. That approach is how we end up with guys like Kristen Hoskins or whatever who sat around on scholly for 2 years before leaving. Sam Siedel should be another one.

With this new landscape, we can afford to miss and bring in portal players, and if the people we missed on turned out to prove themselves elsewhere, they can portal back here.

(That being said, this doesn't apply to Voss since he's obviously been identified big time.)
I actually think you can afford to miss way more today than before. If you gambled on a local kid pre-portal and he didn’t work out, he was not only eating a scholarship for 4/5 years but you also had a gaping hole at the missed position. We used to talk about whether it was okay yo push players up to “free up scholarships”. Now, you can.

The truth is, you’re never going to fill up the entire roster of people who are starters. You have the guys who will hit and the guys who will miss. If they miss, they’re depth at practice and then you move them out. If they hit, you hope and pray they stick around. I think they are more likely to stick around if they’re local (arguably).

For my HS recruiting, I swing for the fences and then fill out the class with as many local kids as needed.

Any chance that he is related to Lloyd Voss who played for the Steelers?

The coaching staff has been recruiting other 2026 tight ends more lately. Voss was also at the Iowa junior day last weekend, idk if he’s attending gophers one coming up soon
Fleck and the whole O staff were in Jackson for a home visit a few weeks ago.

Unless Iowa and/or whomever are telling him the same thing, I just think you tell him "look at what Koi Perich was able to do, not just for the Gophers, but for his own NFL profile as a true freshman" last year.

Will Iowa give you that?? Or will they make you wait behind older players?
